  2. I am putting up the following reels for sale: · 3 Penn GTi 320 - $50/ea + shipping · 6 GT2 320 - $50/ea + shipping · 1 GTi 330 - $60 + shipping · 2 Shimano TLD 2000 - $30/ea + shipping (I missed taking pics for these, can send if interested) All reels have only been used for trolling in fresh water. There is no internal or external corrosion of any parts. The reels were always stored in the cabin after trips (not on rocket launchers); sun damage and fading of the composite housings is very, very minimal. I have owned the reels since about 2000 and most of the reels have not been used since the 2023 season. These reels were primarily my backup 40lb mono reels used only when the water fleas were prevalent or used for long lines as the opening in the line guide carriage is wide, readily accepting knots to copper and weighted steel. As I understand Penn manufacturing, the GTi reels were made in USA. The GT2 reels were made in Asia. Internally, the only difference between the two reels is the design of the clicker mechanism. The GTi utilizes a metal clicker tongue with a brass ring to control the tension. The GT2 utilizes a plastic clicker tongue and the spring/pin tension mechanism, similar to current Penn reel designs. All other parts of the two reels are interchangeable. I have never had a clicker fail on a GTi and GT2 reel. The same cannot be said for the original Penn Squall design (fixed in the Squall II). All the Penn reels have been fully serviced before putting them up for sale as follows: · Both sides of the reel opened up · Old grease removed from all parts and gears; new Penn Precision Reel Grease applied · All bearings rotated to confirm operation and lubricated with Penn Precision Reel Oil · Clicker tongue inspected for damage (none found); mechanism greased · Pawl and worm gear inspected; pawl replaced where needed; mechanism lubricated with oil · Drag washers removed, inspected for wear, complete stack of 5 replaced where needed; all washers wiped clean, lightly lubricated with Cal’s Universal Reel & Star Drag Grease, wiped with a shop towel prior to reassembly · Reels assembled, clicker, free spool and drags tested to confirm performance; drags that did not engage when star drag was backed out all the way, the handle was removed, the tension spring replaced new and reassembled to confirm performance (i.e. when the star drag is backed all the way out, the reel will still engage - over time as the drags and tension spring become worn, the reel will no longer turn when the star drag is backed all the way out) · Outside of reels wiped clean with Krud Kutter to remove any grease/lubricant from servicing · Parts replaced noted on reel tags The Shimano reels have not been used for at least 15 years and were not serviced. As with all my reels, the drags were stored with the star backed all the way out. The clicker, free spool and drags all work fine, I just cannot promote the drags as in ‘new’ condition as I can the Penn reels that I serviced. 4. I have two Otter Boards that have spent most of their life in the forward cabin or dock box that I am putting up for sale to give them a new home. I fish solo about half the time and running these off my out riggers is a lot of work for a simple 3 rod spread - I simply rarely use them. Both boards have the additional half keel and have been re-enforced with aluminum plates to support the keels and attachment line on each board. The edges of aluminum were polished therefore, there are no sharp edges to damage line. The boards and keels are available new at Fat Nancy's for $180 & $80 w/o tax. I am asking $400 plus shipping for the pair.
  5. I have two Big John planer reels that were last on the boat in 2008 and since been stored on my racks of gear in the basement. Time to give them a new home. Pics show the reels disassembled, all the washers and parts are there. No rust and minimal where. The old lubricant has been removed from the tension screw mechanism. Asking $240 for the pair plus shipping.

  7. I have a tri toon and fish salmon regularly on Lake Michigan with a 12 rod set up. Super comfortable and do pretty well.(only way to get the wife to fish with me )
  8. Good morning, I used to fish Lake Superior with a 17' V-hull but moved and sold my boat. I now live in Montana and can fish kings on Fort Peck. I need to get another boat. Does anyone here fish salmon off a pontoon boat? If so, how do you like it? David

  11. Progress is creeping along on HB 5093. The bill will get a hearing at the House Natural Resources & Tourism Committee on either January 14th or 21st. The bill needs to pass the NR&T Committee to move to a vote by the full House of Representatives. The GLSI and Michigan Angler's Consortium have verbal and/or in writing commitments of supporting groups and businesses and this lists keeps growing. ending emails to the House Natural Resources Committee member to urge them to pass HB 5093 will also really help, especially if you are in their district. Contact info here: https://www.house.mi.gov/Committee/HNATU This Bill will really help our big water and inland lake fisheries. How? The first 2 on the list are the BIG TWO changes from this bill: 1) Puts all license fee revenue in the DNR Fisheries Division-right now your license money goes into the black hole general fund. 2) Puts a Citizen Advisor in a new Fisheries Oversight Committee to speak for recreational and charter boat fishermen, and oversee DNR Fisheries spending-this will expand funding transparency and align DNR Fisheries priorities with recreational and charter boat fishermen's priorities. 3) 1 million more walleye for inland lakes 4) Increase of 25,000 more muskies for inland lakes 5) Increase the number of inland brown trout, rainbow and lake trout stocking sites 6) Continue reintroduction efforts of arctic grayling and sturgeon restoration. 7) Fund increased cormorant control. 😎 Expand inland lake and river surveys which are critical to stocking plans and regulation changes such as slot limits to increase natural reproduction. 9) It will continue funding for salmon and trout stocking programs. 10) It will continue ongoing research and data collection such as creel counts; charter reporting, fish population studies and forage surveys are required to manage inland and Great Lakes fisheries. Here is the current sign on list and it continues to grow. Get your group to sign up. We need to pressure Lansing to do something about our dwindling inland lakes and our regulation management. 12. Any update on this proposed legislation? Thanks In advance.
  13. I've been busy adding more rigs to the site for the upcoming season. Here are some of the new ones for you to scope out. Visit Painted Back Rigs to see the entire selection including harnesses made with size 4, 4.5, 5 and 6 Colorado, Willow, Hatchet and Arrowhead blades.
  14. i was just up there open water fishing and we did extremely well. the best thing to do is call Bayshore Tackle or Blades Bait Shop. Both are really set up with Ice information.
  15. Or your crew doesn’t put the line behind the pin. Or the split ring the release is on opens up. Or the screw eyes works out of the board…
  16. how are you losing them? Is your line breaking? Like the other poster said, if your rear clop has the pin, only a line break should cause you to lose a board. The only boards I have lost are on breaks- hence the 50lb braid backing. I lost a Church 44 on my last trip because the 30 lb reaction tackle braid just snapped and we didn't notice immediately.
  17. I’ve been having problems with picking up green slime while trolling near the bottom or in shallow. That can bugger up the best of swivels.
  18. Need quality ball bearing swivels to prevent twist. Also, do you know what brand of line and lb test you're using? When I started I was doing the rubber band method on blacks releases, then I got rid of the rubber bands and just use the blacks. No problems in 11 years of big lake fishing for me.
  19. I used these and attached the rubber band to them at a tension that the bands would break most of the time. I used one band down to about 50 ft and 2 after that. Dan Keating method. The bands seemed to hold pretty well. I'm not sure how this would cause or allow for twist. I put in the Chamberline releases at the end of last season with shock absorbers, and I did like the change. But I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong and if that I'm missing something that is increasing line twist. It seemed like I was getting twist even if I ran a 10 foot floro leader at the end of my mono leader with a bearing swivel at both ends.
  20. I have never used the rubber band method, but if the rubber band holds your line while dropping down that may be the issue. I have always run Blacks Releases https://www.blackmarineproducts.com/product-page/black-s-downrigger-release-clip no issue with line twist using these releases for me.
  21. How do you minimize line twist? I am using barrel swivels, and fairly cheap bearing swivels for spoons. I seem to be getting a fair bit of line twist- more than I was hoping for or expecting. What are some of your tips for minimizing line twist while trolling- esp on downriggers. Related to this, I was using the rubber band method on downriggers for most of last season, but I had a couple of lines break off. It seemed like the line was moving through the 2 rubber bands I had on the line in 8-ft of water, and as I put pressure on it to break free the line would slide a little then snap. Any experience with this?
  22. While bass fishing a small bay off of Lake Erie last Saturday I seen on camera some yellow perch moving in. The one looked like a giant! Time to get the ice fishing gear ready. Lake Erie Giant Yellow Perch Video Click Here

  23. Thanks for sharing Rich, I truly hope to see legislature like this pass to any measure. Unlimited rods for a solo seems to good to not be amended! More money and more money from the sportsmen, how can the everything robbed to the general fund stay mystical while we attempt to support what should already be funded??
  24. Here’s what the pump couldn’t clear out. I think we had four waves in a row wash the bow lights.
