Hull prep for name and artwork

Recommended Posts

What is the best way to prep your hull for some new vinyl stickers to remove any wax or debris? I am ready to put the name on the new boat and also add a little artwork with an airbrush. Am I going to need to clear coat over any paint I apply?

I put the Stinger decals on my boat after I buffed the boat out. After I buffed it out and put the decals on, I put two coats of wax on the boat.

Last decals I put on

I did not buff the boat nor stip the wax. I cleaned the hull with with simply green before I put the boat name and Great Lakes Fisherman decals on the sides. I do not think they adhered as good as the stinger decals. But.....the sun may bake them on.

We use acetone or acrosol to prep and clean before applying decals on fiberglass. As for the airbrush work some of that will depend on what kind of paint he is using. When I had the mural painted on my old car I clear coated it and all went well however the same guy painted my bike tank and used differant paint and the clear coat ruined it so make sure it is all compatable paint.

Thanks for the tip 1 Mainiac. I am working on rebuilding the top end of my engine at the moment. When thats done I will seal the deal on the new boat with the name on the transom. I will make sure the paint he uses is the right stuff...
