Tire repair

Recommended Posts

An email I just submitted to Firestone:

I’d like to tell you of a tire repair experience in Rochester NY. On 4 Aug 07, I was just about to head out to Syracuse in my Ford Ranger that was loaded with my sons furniture for his college apartment.

I stopped at a gas station & upon putting air in the tires, the stem of a rear tire that had been purchased only 1 ½ months before, began leaking. I was however able to get the cap back on before it went flat. I drove to this Firestone store on East Ridge Rd that was only 200 Yds down the street. I pulled in at 5:45 PM and saw 2 open bays & 3 mechanics leaning against the bay doors. I ran in and explained my stem predicament to which the manager replied : “Sorry, can’t do it because we’re closing in 10 minutes.â€

Upon explaining that I’d gotten tires, brakes, front end work on my Firestone account for a long time and even offering a tip if they could just replace the stem, he replied again: “sorry we’re closing in 10 minutes.†I asked if there was another place around here that could fix it to which he replied: “I don’t know.†Upon turning & leaving the store I heard him say: “Have a nice day.â€

Just to assure you that this story has a happy ending, I left & headed east. After stopping at a red light I spotted a PepBoys store and they took me right in. We filled out the paperwork & then I purchased a small bottle of ice tea. I was half finished gulping it down when the manager came back & asked if it was okay to clean the corrosion off the rim and balance it also. (yes) Anyways, the mechanic brought the paperwork back in as the manager was filling out paperwork for another customer and when he was done, cashed out my $23 job on my MasterCard & printed out 3 pages of receipts, warranty, sales promotions etc.

I looked at my watch upon leaving the PepBoys parking lot and it was 6:06 PM. (21 minutes total elapsed time)

The moral of this story is kind of obvious. Added to the fact that the 1 ½ month old tire mounted on a corroded rim, had been purchased through Firestone, this customer will never purchase tires, brakes, shocks, alignments, tie rod work, state inspections nor have flats fixed at a Firestone store ever again.

Have a nice day.

p.s. If I get spam or BS sales propaganda because you require my email address, I'll sue.
