  1. Nice haul, they absolutely slammed em. Awesome quality as well. I went up there a couple years ago for some of those trophy fish, but we came up epmty handed. Seems our timing was terrible as they did real well the week prior and the few days we were there were quite poor. Talking to many locals we got that shoulda been here yesterday...Just my luck...It was a balmy -11 with -35 windchills as well. From the woods of a famous tea commercial..."Now thats BRISK!"

  2. The other large swing as well from the Pa's in the snapweights to inlines and BB era has been the phasing out of hard baits, or in Saginaw Bay's case, the hot n tot. It was once the #1 presentation and i remember Franks had, and still does have, the best selection when it comes to color selection of hot n tots. TONS and i mean TONS of custom colors came out with their wide spread popularity. They were ordering 600-800 if a single color just to keep all of us raging animals stocked up and happy. I can only imagine the fear the first time they started making orders like that. But what a succsess for both Franks and the fisherman of Saginaw Bay. Man we used to really pound the fish on those tots. Theyll still work very well today, they just dont see the run time for many anglers, myself included, that they once did....It still pains me to see the 3/8 Rattle Tot get scrapped.:(...That is a walleye thrashin machine!;)....So many lures, so little time.

  3. Nicely done Matt! Great looking buck my friend. Now that you have your deer down you better get grandpa and the boat back out on the lake after those fish!

Sorry to hear about your miss Peter. Youll get em next time around. Great effort trying to find any signs of a hit. Thats more than allot of folks would have done im sure. Good karma will visit you soon im sure. Good luck!

  4. OK, while down deer hunting the last couple days i came acrossed a Mariner 8 hp outboard while visiting with the farmer where we keep the camper. Anyhow, he said he hadnt used it in a couple years. Well, i just happen to be in the market for a little larger motor for my duck boat, so i made him an offer and he accepted it. It hasnt been run in a couple of years and he couldnt find his manual. So, i get the motor home and check everything out, and it looks fantastic. This motor looks brand new. Theres a small shroud on the front of the carb, so i took that off and sprayed a bit of carb cleaner in there to make sure anything on the outside was cleaned of any varnish etc. I tried starting it, but no dice. Finally i took a small spray bottle of gas and as long as i spray it in the carb itll keep running. And it runs pretty darned good too. But, as soon as i quit spraying it quits running. So, ive come to the conclusion that its not getting gas an either needs the jets cleaned or a new diaphram. So, im gonna have to tear the carb off clean it and find out about the diaphram.

So, this is where i need your help. Anyone know of any sites out there that can help me #1) find the year of the outboard by serial # and #2) has a schematic for the carb incase i mess up when i take it apart?

The info on the motor tag appears as follows:

    MARINER 8

    677 S 011100

The tag is black and MARINER 8 and 677 are all in silver letters. Then to the right of the 677 is a box thats sivler in color and thats where the S 011100 is printed in black lettering. So, if my logic is correct, then that gives me a model(677) and Serial # S 011100

Thanks for any and all help...Adam

  5. Welcome aboard Mike....Nice to see another has got the bug real bad! Thats awesome, congratulations on your purchase as well. Hope she gives you many years of trouble free service...Pics man, we need pics...lol

Guys have done a good job getting you started. A good thing for you to do would be to meet up with someone in the muskegon area and have them show you their set ups to give you an idea the direction you need to go. Its tough to build a large spread all at once. A basic spread of 7'6"-8'6" rigger rods with mono and your 209's will serve you well on the riggers. A couple 8'6" diver rods with line counters spooled with some 30# Power Pro for dipseys and a couple of 8-8'6" board rods spooled with 1-10 colors of lead core or copper line will have you catching plenty of fish off your new boat. As you know, theres allot to take in, so reread some of the great post on this site and find someone local who can help you build your spread...Good luck to you. Looking forward to your posts with big hauls of feesh!!!

  6. Yup, we used to pound them on Pa's!!! Didnt take the company long to catch on that everyone tossed that guady looking gold hook an replaced it with their own crawler harness. Then the Pa's crawler connection was born.....Ah the good old days, less fish, but much better quality...I dont know about you Frank, but i liked the original Pa's the best. Once they put that lead fin on the bottom of the bill there were a percentage that wouldnt run true. Seems to me they did away with that and went back to their original plan, but i could be wrong....Anyhow, a great tool and we used them allot, but as you said we as fisherman evolve in our ways of presentation and next thing you know you have tackle collecting dust. I still have a ton of Pa's and haul them out on every trip, but they rarely hit the water. Its tough to compete with the short amount of line and effisciency an inline weight or BB gives you. All great tools, might have to break them out again myself. Pygmies are another favorite of mine. Walleye absolutely love em!!!
