  1. No Kidding, my cousin was out on Saturday too, and he almost ran my boards over! Good thing it was him, because he turned off quick to keep from making a mess of our gear.
  2. Mike, glad to hear the june slow down has hit your boat too. We set up on Saturday in about 140, just north and out side of the nets around 7:00. Took a small king on a black and purple magnum Pro King 80 down on a rigger. Didn't take another bumb for an hour, when a silver with orange glow tape went down 50 on a rigger in about 210 fow. Lost that one. Went until about 9:45 without a hit after that. I was just noticing we were getting into the scum line around then when the lines started to go. From then until around 10:45, we went 5 for 6. 3 steelies, 2 kings. 2 steelies on 7 color core, 1 blue dolphin, on orange/yellow/silver Northern King. 1 steelie on 5 color core with double orange crush. Kings came down 120 on Blue Spin Doctor and blue bubble fly. Pulled lines at 11:00 ending 6 for 8. Looks like the fish know it is June, this was a far cry from last weekend when we took 25 hits on Saturday and 15 on Monday:(
  3. I think we have 12 too. I think there are 9 between Muskegon and GH, then another 3 to the North between Muskegon and Whitehall. Ours are all Commercial nets, so they are pretty well marked. I've got some of them marked on my GPS now, and will mark the rest in the next couple of weeks to stay out of them. Hopefully I'll be able to stay out of them!
  4. Welcome Dick. Do you know Mike Potts up there on Linedancer II. Mike got me hooked on this salmon fishing thing over the cource of a handfull of charters with him.
  5. Finally got the boat out for the shakedown cruise and the fish did not dissappoint. We ended up fishing from 7:15 - 11:30 and boated 10 of 13. Not bad considering my rookie driver took me out of the fish not once, but twice for an hour each time. Depth was 160 - 180 where most of the action was. Best setup (5 hits) was white spinny and white fly down 73 on the rigger. 10 color core took 3 hits with blue dolphin spoon. Others reported that braided dipsy's back 200 on #2 were good with white spinny and green fly.
  6. In case someone didn't see this thread before, the scam is back for July and August trips. I got one last night and deleted it.
  7. I don't remember how many we caught this evening, I think 4 or 5, but these 2 pic's is what it is all about. This is my buddies newphew and his first king
  8. I wouldn't think so, but then again, look how we all get at about 6:00 AM on Tournament day when Tournament contol gives us the green light
  9. Hey guys, there is one more step to the scam. I got the same e-mail. I told them I'd be more than happy to book the trip. When I did so, the next e-mail they wanted me to charge 4,000 more than my rates, and send their "booking agent" the 4 grand via western union. I responed by deleting the e-mail .
  10. You might want to look at the Accudepth 57LC combos that cabelas have for I think 55 bucks right now. I've used the AD47LC's for 5 years on dipsys with no problems.
  11. Caz, Easy question for me. Just don't tell...OK. The slasher would definately be the White Glow. As for the fly behind it, I don't actually run a stinger fly, but if I had to pick one of theirs that is close to what I run, it would be the Glow Mirage. That setup has been deadly for me over the last 3 or 4 years taking almost every big fish on my boat. Now don't tell noone . Just our little secret!
  12. Got my riggers today. Kudo's to Big Jon's order processing department. Ordered them Monday, they arrived on Wednesday.....man are they pretty:D . Is it spring yet! Thanks to all who chimed in with suggestions.
  13. One other advantage to this setup is how the bait tracks through the water. The SWR tracks differently than just running long leads. I have run both long leads of 150 feet next to the SWR and have taken more fish on SWR. Remember like any other fishing method, any given day it is the key. Some days the 150 foot leads work better than SWR. It's just another excuse for us to spend money on more gear .
  14. I think I've setteled on the Big Jon Pro Tournament. They aren't quite as fast as the new Mag 15's, but I like the Black and Gold ones and I like the rod holders on the big jon's better. Thanks for the advice.
  15. Yeah, I've seen the Mag 10hs and Mag 5hs in the Cabelas magazine I just got. I'm leaning toward maybe 2 of each of them. The Mag 5's have a 2 foot boom. I'm going to see what Big Jon can do for me, then go from there. Where did you hear the Mag 10 HS was going to be under 400? Cabelas has them for $500.
  16. I think I've come up with a couple of basic requirements. 1 autostop, 2 speed. As far as price, I'm Cheap . I don't need the bells and whistles of something like a Cannon Mag 20 or Digitroll, but I want more speed than the Mag 10. I've seen Cannon has come out this year with a Mag 5 and Mag 10 HS, which looks good. So I guess I really don't know for sure. Currently I have a couple of older Vectors, but they don't have a auto stop on them, so they might go with the crappy walkers that have to go before they die. Any pro's and cons would be helpful. thanks
  17. I'm going to be upgrading my downriggers and am looking for some advise on which brand to go with. Some pro's and con's would be nice. I'm looking at getting either Big Jon's, Cannon's or Vectors. I'm kicking the walkers to the curb!
  18. Hello all, I'm Captain Chris Redding. I'm charting out of Bluffton Bay Marina in Muskegon, MI aboard a 27 foot Sundancer.
  19. Caz, Although we did pretty good with the baits this year, I have to say I was pretty dissappointed as a whole on what Dreamweaver sent us. We did best on the Blue Spinny and Fly, and took hits on all of the spoons. However, I do think as a whole we would have all put more fish in the box. I don't think It would have really mattered on our boat, since we missed somewhere around 10 or 12 fish to go with the 8 we boated. There were boats in my marina that absolutely distroyed anything that we did (including Zboy's pretty impressive box) in the tourney and they were fishing the same water I was. Just my .02. By the way, in case you haven't heard it enough, you did an awesome job again this year!
  20. Give me a hollar, I'm willing to talk with just about anyone, especially when I'm not catching any fish....I get bored easily:D
  21. We fished Saturday morning also. Tough fishing for us. We ended up 5 for 6, releasing a laker and a shaker. We kept 2 kings and 1 Steelhead. Fish came in 200-230 FOW. Took 2 fish (king and laker) on Magnum Moonshine Night Crawler 90 down on rigger. Took the steelhead on a bird core with double orange cruch. Took 1 king off a 1 1/2 dipsy 200 back with a monkey puke. Can't remember the other 2 hits.
  22. Wow, we had between 50 and 52 degree water inside of 20 feet of water. Got to love that with the cost of gas:)
  23. Got out to shake down the boat for a short trip Friday night, then a full trip on Saturday. FRIDAY: Went 2 for 2 in about 1 hour 15 minutes. Took a 14 lb king in 16 FOW off the rigger 11 down on a black/green spoon. Took a 16 lb king in 18 FOW off a planer board 125 feet back. That was on a black/orange Rattling Rogue. SATURDAY: Started the day hot with a Small brown at 7:05 in 18 FOW on the same Black/green spoon 11 down on the rigger. 20 minutes later took a laker 13 down on the rigger in 16 FOW on a black/purple spoon. Went cold until 10:00 when we we took a hit on 3 color core on a red gander mountain spoon. Lost that one at the boat. As we were fighting that one we had a screamer on the planer board. That one hit a a black/orange rattling Rogue 125 back. It broke the line at about 375 feet back. Both came in 22 FOW. Around 20 minutes later, we took a nice brown on the rigger 13 feet down in 18 FOW. That came on a Sister Sledge spoon. Ended the day 3 for 5 after going a couple hours without a hit after that.
