  1. I quit fishing alone about 10 yrs ago. It wasn't about landing fish or boat control, safety was my concern. Fall overboard while the boat is moving @ even the slowest trolling speed and U R SCREWED.
  2. 4 Cannon Electrics. They are nice to power down and up. I never use the clutch to lower weights anymore. I don't like the small numbers on the counters. (old eyes) LOL They should all have numbers like the old Penn Fathommasters.
  3. Don't know who he is but I'm real partial to SC Islander HTs. He has to be one heck of a good guy, and fisherman.
  4. I tow with a 2003 Silverado 1/2 ton w 4WD a 4.8L V8 with a Snow Plow, and trailer tow package. I seldom use it other than to pull boats. I never checked the mileage, (it would only PI$$ me off) LMAO
  5. Welcome Mark. Are you Ed's Brother? Starcrafts never die.
  6. It's probably the trim sender that is located on the outdrive. The sender is on the starboard side and an identical looking trim limit is on the port side. They are sold as pairs. They are black plastic about 2 inches in diameter and are on the sides of the gimble housing. This system is hydraulic. The 10w30 oil is used as hydraulic oil. The two rams have braided hoses going to them. The trim sender and limit is a tuff job to change. Mine is bad also and I have been putting off replacing them till I have some other work that requires me to pull more than just the outdrive. Mine is an Alpha 1 also. The guage, sender and limit are electrical of course.
  7. Uniden President VHF Marine Scanner radio with all paper work. GR8 Condition. This radio was always used in a hardtop boat, so it was never exposed to rain etc. I'm located between Augres and Tawas near the Singing Bridge. $45 and I will ship it if you pay actual postage, (probably around $5-$7).
  8. I also change mine at least once a year, and if the oil color starts to darken. I have a special fitting and a hose that is left in place on the drain hole. When it's time to change oil the hose fits through the transom drain. Just remove the cap from the hose and drain the oil into a 2 gal jug. After the oil is drained I add a Qt. of cheaper oil and let it drain also. There is never a mess, and all the oil is drained outside of the boat. I take my used oil with me when I get my car/truck serviced. The oil drain hose and fitting cost $20.
  9. Congrats Rich. Now I have to watch what I post. LOL:)
  10. No, I wouldn't buy a Salty. There are too many fresh water boats for sale in our area. I am running a 20 yo SC Islander that I bought last yr. The boat was used on the GLs and only needed a few mechanical things and some cosmetic work. I do my own mechanic work (if at all possible). Too many Saltys don't get rinsed after every use, and if they are slipped, forget it. I would much rather spend a few $$$$ more on a fresh water boat.
  11. The docks are in @ the Tawas DNR Launch. They must have put them in early Sat or very late Friday.
  12. Welcome Steve, I would have to say, you have a keeper there. She let you take the boat?????
  13. DNR Launch @ Tawas does not have the docks in yet. Small boats are being launched at the DNR Launch, and the Tawas River Launch. As mentioned above fish are being caught.
  14. The Docks are not in @ the Tawas DNR launch next to the State Police post. Smaller open bow boats are able to launch there. The docks should be going in soon. I checked the Augres launch at the mouth of the Augres River, and the docks are in there.
  15. Even when some smokers do take it outside, they think the world is their ashtray. Just look outside any hospital or non-smoking area. Smokes should cost about $10 a pack, so someone could be paid to go behind them and clean up.
  16. Welcome DogHouse. Did you have a 26 ft Islander HT before the boat in the pic?
  17. Just got through with brakes and bearings about a week ago.
  18. Welcome Magician, I hope 2 C U on the Water.
  19. Sounds grrrr8. I thought this was going be the one where you throw the fish away and eat the board. LOL:D
  20. Welcome Mc, and GL 2 U 2 this coming season.
  21. New bearings and brakes on the trailer. Boat got a new aluminum downrigger board that we made from some salvaged sq tube stock. A swim platform, new 150 qt cooler. 4 new Scotty rod holders on the sides. 4 new SS homemade rod holders on downrigger board. Lights in downrigger board. 12V outlet in Downrigger board. Clean interior and exterior and a coat of wax. I painted the trailer just before laying it up for the Winter. 2- 55w halogen lights on the HT shining on the fishing area. Move the anchor light from the front of the HT to the rear (this son of a gun glared on my windshield at night). Heading out to the garage to finish up a few things. Oh! I made an Outdrive stand out of a 4 wheel hardwood dolly, and need to pull outdrive to grease the U joints and check impellor and gimble bearing etc.
  22. Small boats able to troll Tawas Bay right now. There is ice and shanties close to Tawas Point. The small boats are launching @ the Tawas River site. I didn't stick around to see how they were doing, but it's most likely a mixed bag this time of year on TB.
  23. I'm not telling my better half about this section. She has waaaaaaaay too much latitude as it is.
  24. W W W = Warm Welcome Whit. Now who are you calling a youngster. LMAO
  25. Welcome JJ Mac. I'll probably make a couple of trips to Manistee or Ludington this yr. I hope to see you on the water.
