  1. My boat runs about the same as yours for speed at an idle (19' Sylvan). But when I get the planner boards out and riggers down I am around 2.0. I have always had my best luck for browns at a speed of 2.5-2.7 also, and never have to worry about putting out a drift sock. If you can't get anything going, try a little faster or slower or troll in S paterns to speed up and slow down your lures. For walleye's I do have to put out the drift bags, and even though it isn't that big of a deal I just hate to run them. But the speed I said above has always worked best for me when I am going after brown's. If you look at the picture in my avatare those are all Browns my Dad, a friend, and myself caught in a couple of hours out of Onekama when the brown fishery was better than it is today!! Good luck, Steve
  2. The warm rain the weather man is predicting this week should realy make them pop.
  3. Great post!! I think we should all pitch some money in the kitty, copy and laminate a few thousand pages of the original post and staple it to every public access launch around the state . Every year I have my patients tested at the ramps!!
  4. I too fished Tawas on Sunday. I fished from the launch south to the big concreat pilars and back. I ran from 7-12 FOW with stick baits on big boards and never had a release. We fished from 8:00-noon. Not a good start for the first trip of the year, but it was a great day fishing with my dad none the less. Sure felt good to be back in the boat again. Good luck, Steve
  5. WOW, and I thought 120' to 150' down was deep rigger fishing. How often and where do you run your riggers down 280' ? I am just curious because I don't even want to atempt that, especialy with my hand cranks .. Back to the main subject, my dad tried the fish shaped weights and had nothing but trouble. His were the ones with the small side fins, they did nothing but tangle. I have no knowledge of the torpedo weights, so no input on that one. I currently run 12# weights, they are sort of between a pancake and a fish weight. A guy that use to fish out of the marina we stayed at made his own mold and boy these things run great. I need to make a copy mold of these because the man past away several years ago and no one makes them that I know of. I will try to get a photo in a couple day when I get back out to my boat. Good luck, Steve
  6. Well after being a member for a month or so I finally decided to take the time to make a post here at the welcome center. A big hello to everyone, and I look forward to future discussions. Good luck, Steve I am a lucky man, she let me take the boat on the honeymoon and it was her idea !!!
