  1. Dan, justenough (Capt. Dick Donovan) is slipping there for a month or so. We should have another couple of good years.
  2. Those drifts are a lot denser than fallen snow. It's tough blowing them no matter how deep they are.
  3. The Dipsy can act just like any other attractor.
  4. Dan, Is that channel posted NO WAKE??? I haven't launched there in a couple of years, but I think it was posted before. Most of those bass boats don't have a lot of freeboard. Like I said I'll give and take but I'm not going to put the P1 on the rocks.
  5. Ya Right.
  6. Combat fishing or not, it never takes me an hour to enter or exit any harbor. I will give and take and try and pick a path through the madness, but bottom line, no one has any business blocking a harbor mouth. The combat fishermen know how to get out of the way when a freighter is coming. We all have to get along, but some of these goof balls think it's their God given right to set up and fish a harbor mouth, even if it impedes others from using the harbor. That's why a horn is required on our vessels. Two years ago a friend ruined a $600 prop trying to avoid some lines in the AuGres harbor. It's much easier and cheaper to unwind fishing line than to replace a prop. This particular harbors channel extends well past the pier heads. The cans are not in place in the early Spring.
  7. It seems the forecasters have a better handle on the Winter storms, than their Summer forecasts. They have been dead on with all of the past few fronts. We have a strong Noreaster blowing up here. We are getting 6 inch whitecaps in the toilet bowls. I don't think we will get much snow accumulation up here, but there will be some serious drifting. Batten down the hatches matey, and let her blow.
  8. An argument can be made for both sides of this issue, just like the three rod rule. Personally, as long as the total number 5 doesn't change, what takes away from one species will add to another. Another point would be fuel savings. A sportsman will be a sportsman. We all have to have a conservative view when it comes to any of our game fish. Limits are just that. If everyone onboard catches 3 Kings, I'm a happy camper. Many tournaments give bonus points for Lakers, Steelhead, and Browns. When a sluggish Laker counts more than a feisty King, I think it dishonors this worthy species. One thing the 5 fish rule will do, is allow you to keep dead shakers, and even some bigger Kings that would otherwise have to be farmed, and end up as Seagull food. If I spend the morning on the pond, and have 3 Kings per person, I'm NOT going to try very hard to fill up. JMHO
  9. WTG Jay. Nothing like those pan fish out of cold water.
  10. Matt,It was good chatting with you last night. Good luck with your fishing.

  11. WTG Jarod. Nice buck.
  12. Nice job Jay.
  13. Dan, The old should-a been here yesterday.
  14. Any day on the water is better than sitting home. I'm glad you hooked into a couple of steelhead, and saw those majestic eagles. I see a quite a few bald eagles around here in the Winter.
  15. Good Job Jay.
  16. Good to see you back Cazz Man.
  17. The Dipsy Diver has been around a long time. Back in the 60s the Dipsy gained the name of "Poor Mans Downrigger". It's a Gr8 way to start fishing Salmon, or to add to any spread. Unless the riggers have been extremely hot, I'll start by getting the high divers out. I have had fish on before I could get a rigger down. Finally, yes this is a GR8 thread.
  18. Matt, Enjoy your new home. Be careful on the ice.
  19. We have the technology to use this and other things for identification purposes. Wave your bar code tat over a scanner at the market, and money is deducted from your account. Or should we use an implanted micro chip. It's coming.
  20. Welcome aboard Tom. If you need any help give me a shout.

  21. Keith, Welcome to the Site. Feel free to join in the discussions or ask if you need any help.:)

  22. I was going to buy one in 1999, when I was building this house. At that time none of them worked that well up the Eastern side of the state. I put in a land line as soon as the basement walls were up. If I could find one that worked well up here all the time, I'd ditch the land line. I also use yahoo to make some phone calls on the PC so the land line could go if the cells were dependable enough.
  23. Nice pics. Be careful on that river ice.
  24. Yes I do add the beer to make it like a runny pancake batter. It doesn't take the whole can, so I finish it while the fish fries:D. If you like a thicker coating, make the batter thicker. I just add a splash of beer at a time until it looks right to me.
  25. For a little extra crunch to you batter add some Corn Starch. One of my favorites is 3 heaping Tablespoons Drakes Mix, 2 Heaping Tablespoons Corn Starch, a little salt and pepper and beer enough to the right consistency. This will do about 1-1/2 pound of fillets. I mix this batter up in an over size mixing bowl and add all the fillets and stir them around. No need to dip each piece individually. I pan fry with a Cast Iron pan and peanut oil, but deep frying is great also. Don't over cook. I just got some walleye fillets out, and it reminded me of this recipe.
