  3. good to see ya here,I'm a member of the west Michigan fishing league and its a hoot ya should check into it specially since its in your home waters:welcome::welcome:
  4. only thing i can think of is someone turned the numbers lock off. anyway small kings 6-8 pounders
  5. went out tonight set lines about 6:30 in 100 fow and worked west, at 130 fow we turned south and promptly hit a double,Kevorkian spoon down 55 on a rigger and a green meat rig 150 back on a dipsey, landed the one on the rigger(bout a lbs king) meat rig came unhooked,10 min later a black spoon with a orange glow strip(name?) set a 45 popped landed that bout lbs king.by then is was about 8;00 and the radio was a buzz with chatter of a storm coming in so we pulled the boards to prep to run if we had to,the wind came up pretty good and started to rain a bit, then the lightning started and that sealed the deal, pulled the dipseys and was putting away gear and the black spoon with that strip popped again came unhooked after a short fight.also had the Kevorkian hit once more but 30 sec. into that the *&%@#$ snap swivel broke.so we went 2 for 5. all fish and hits came in 120-103 fow. 8:30 we ran for the channel it was kickin up pretty good got a little wet (rain&waves) 9:00 motoring threw the channel and the sun was poppin out again debated going back out but decided to call it a night.looking forward to the 7-14 wmfl event!
  6. here in lake michigan we troll anywhere between 2.4-3.2 depends on the day and the currents good luck
  7. jack up the trailer(and block)remove the grease cap from the center of the hub, pull the cotter pin and remove large nut wobble the hub and the outter bearing will come out(inspect the bearing for pits or flat spots if none continue on,before you remove the hub from the spindle put the nut back on be sure to get several threads, in a quick motion pull the hub out the inner bearing will catch on the large nut and pull the grease seal out of the back of the hub now you can inspect the inner bearing for pits or flat spots,OK now if they show excessive wear or pitting they should be replaced.the bearing number will be imprinted on the bearing race or take them to a parts store the should be able to match them up,if bearing look to be in good condition then they should be repacked and replaced, use care when putting grease seal back in to the rear of the hub they fragile.the bearing may also only need to be adjusted. to adjust the bearing remove the grease cap and cotter pin and tighten the large nut,be careful not to over tighten, you will know when it is too tight by when the hub starts to freeze up(not turn freely) i hope this is helpful, i am a auto mechanic and if i didn't go into enough help or if you need further help just pm me I'll be glad to help if i can
  8. well that ya caught fish means you are doing something right, but if it was me i would try speeding up just a touch, say 2.5 to 3.0 depending on currents.watch your rigger cables and dipseys they will help you with the current thing, just find a speed that works for ya and take note on how the cables and dipseys look and try to match that all the time regardless of what the GPS says. good luck
  9. thank you,Caz and crew for putting on a fine event, the Tad Pole crew had a awesome time.the fishing was kinda strange,no apparent pattern to anything,we had 2 hits on meat rig one behind a dipsy at 150 back one on a rigger set 55 down(last fish of the day boated it at 10:55)1 fish on a Kevorkian spoon at 65 down on the rigger.one fish on a green fish catcher with green fly behind a dipsey, 2 small fish on Michael Jackson on a full core.one fish on a two tone yellow glow spoon 55 down on a rigger. we caught all fish in 120-150 fow.I think the fishing that day just fit our style of fishing we never have any pattern to what we do! all said and done we went 6 for 9.not bad for June i suppose. again thanks for having us along on a great day on the lake(like there is any other kind)we look forward to the next event. oh and also thanks to six shooter for sandbaggin a little to make this thing a little more interesting.
  10. i had similar problem with our boat(no manual)what i was really concerned with was the engine and out drive so i started looking on ebay and found a brand new in the package shop manual that covered both engine and outdrive.i got lucky and bid on it for $15 no one else bid so by the time i paid shipping it was $21,now it looked that i could have bought one anytime for bout $45 but i shopped and lucked out, give it a try.
  11. the only thing i see that you may be doing wrong on a consistent basis is that your running too long of a leader from your (flasher, fish catcher, dodger or any spinny thing)to your bait. dipsy---4-5' leader----fish catcher-----18-24" leader----bait my typical set up
  12. holy cow who reels the 20 color lead core in??i would need electric retrieve for that rod!!does it catch fish?it must or you wouldn't use it.hey i do have a 19 yr. old sun who does little else!he can reel that in! if my math is right that should be a bout 850 ft before the fish hits right?
  13. looks to be a fine vessel,i,m sure that many a salmon will rue the day that muskybob trolled threw there neighborhood. also the 4.3 sips fuel and still has decent power,we have one in our 24' fiberglass and it will run 35 mph or so... anyway congrats on the new ride it looks great!
  14. OK i have ran sliders many times on the riggers but this is the 1st time i have heard of them on dipseys, does this work and how is it rigged?i assumed that the line to the dipsey was pretty strait and i also thought it was the belly in the line that kept the slider where ya wanted it? also is it hard to release a dipsey if the fish hits the slider versus the bait at the other end of the dipsey?and lastly is it worth the problems i can see with the rig(tangles),has anyone had any success with this? thanks Randy
  15. Hit the launch at about 3:30 pm setting lines at 4:00 in 170 fow,45 min until the first hit, dipsy set 200 back, white with blue spin doctor with a aqua man fly,King about 8 lbs 4 color lead core went next with a glow easter egg 5 lbs coho, then the rigger set at 85 ft. popped with a about 3 lbs steal head on, landed both so that was the Tad Poles first double this year One more hit about a hour later and lost it 20 ft behind the boat. based on reports and last weeks experience we went out too deep and stayed out too late,we heard on the radio that others were doing better closer in ( 110-130 fow) so we trolled east and by the time we was pulling lines we were in 110 and marking allot of fish but no late takers. all in all great day on the lake and the weather was the best
  16. didnt make it sunday but plan to be out there monday afternoon. going fot the evening bite i believe we'll see what happens hollor on 68 for Tad Pole outta portsheldon.
  17. Fish catcher,Spin doctor. usually is what is most commonly used but some people are using other things as well---just about anything that goes round and round.
  18. OK maybe this is way to obvious but i have always found it hard to keep up with the "slang" that is used for all the baits and it is made worse by the fact that it appears that all the manufactures of these baits don't use the same names or even color patterns for the baits. has anyone a chart or colored book that describes the baits in there most commonly accepted form? does any of what I'm saying make any sense to anyone else. example:i know of at least 4 different variations of the Kevorkian spoon now i know there are different colors but some of them don't even resemble one another. thanks for any help with my confusion
  19. Rick and i have aded to the boat this season a Lowrance x515c df fish finder (about $550.00) and a Lowrance global map 5300c again (about $500.00) we looked at many combo units but decided that we liked the fact that with 2 units we would not have to split the screen.also we also reasoned that if one of the units were to (breakdown) that we wouldn't lose both until we got it repaired, the cost is about the same for many of the other quality combo units but not many of those come with a 10" screen. have only used them once as it turns out there was something wrong with the gps and it would always return to demo mode but we exchanged it for a new unit no hassles.the fish finder was awesome.(side note:a combo unit may have been thrown overboard that day!)
  20. 30 lbs. fire line has been working very well on our dipseys for the past 3 yrs. i dont even have a "wire rod" although i admit i have been thinking on getting one if for no other reason than to see what i have been missing.but back to the fire line it dives very well has never broken off and i have only had to tie it once.
  21. ok guys i have a brand new lowrance 5300 GPS on the boat, i have a silly question? what is nmea 2000 and what does it do and........................
  22. nice looking set up looks like you have put some thought in it, we have big john riggers and berts rod holders on our boat, both work awesome, the track system for the berts is great, when your done fishing you just slide them all to one end and it gives you alott of room to enter and exit the boat. not to mention how many times has someone bent or broken a rod holder on the dock, and from experince we use the berts for our dipseys and we set the rod tips allmost down to the water, and when a fish hits ya just grab that rascal and pull it up before ya try to take the rod outta the holder(way easier) anyway looks great see ya on the 6th
  23. i agree that the problem is is the float, but it may not just be sticking, sometimes the float leaks, kinda like a bobber will sometimes and then it sinks in the bowl and no matter how much fuel is in there ya get full fuel flow and what you described happens. good luck a carb rebuild will fix it though.
