  1. Thanks for the report. I've been using slide divers for years. The same one actually. I use 40 lb mono and make sure the surgical tubing is there. However, the new ninja divers look pretty slick! The kings have vacated the area. What's odd to me is the 10-15 lb spring kings never even seemed to show up. Wish I had a boat I would trust to take me to 300 fow out of Holland!
  2. Sounds like a great day on the water! Thanks for the report. Was going to try and copy what you did out of Pentwater this morning, but saw some bait and fish in 90 fow. So I started there and trolled out to 180 and back into 60. Was fishing solo and had a large number of fish following the spoons on the downriggers but had a tough time getting them to commit. Ended up 3-4 fishing from 6:30 to 9 am. 2 kings about 5 lbs, and an 8 lb steelhead. Maybe should have ran deep, but I'm happy with that result. Not happy about being unable to get any alewives on the sabiki rig or in the cast net given the clouds of bait from out front almost all the way back to the launch. Caught a 5 lb bowfin in the channel. Standard size silver streak Rasta Goose - Rigger 45 ft Dreamweaver Superslim Rasta Goose - 150 Copper Stinger Stingray Orange Tuxedo UV - 200 Copper Stinger Eyeball Man UV - Free slider, Rigger down 55 ft
  3. After dark started marking lots of hooks in bottom 20 feet from 220 to 150 fow. A lot more hooks in the 220-180. Wonder what was going on. No way for my boat to get lines that deep.
  4. Tried to find fish tonight under the full moon. Graph was blank. Got two 3 or 4 lb kings in 250 fow right at 9:30. Nothing after that. Fished all the way in to 40 fow.
  5. Yes! The 24th. Changed the title.
  6. Weather was looking ok after the rain this morning so decided to fish the evening. Fished 5:30-9:30 pm. Stayed mostly in 190-195 fow. Ended up 7/10 with two 10lb+ kings and two 8 lb kings, two 4 lb kings, and one shaker. Troll north and south 2.3 mph at the ball. Downrigger @ 99 took 3 hits with moonshine std happee meal - took a 4th hit later at 89 feet. Downrigger @ 55 took 2 hits with a streak std Smurf. 300 Copper with a streak mag blue dolphin took 2 hits. 200 Copper with RV mag raspberry carbon took 1 hit. Mag diver back 115 with steak std bloody nose took 1 hit.
  7. The fog was something. Wouldn't have gone out - but someone on the radio said it was clear in 170 fow. It was not... Nor was it clear in 200 fow.
  8. Fished 6:30 until 8:30 and left the launch just before it started to rain. Went 5/10 but only got two keeper kings. Lost a few other "decent" fish. 125-140 fow. Speed 2.8-3.0. NNW/SSE trolls best. Forget what bit what but had bits on: 2 x100 copper with stingray Jager bomb uv 2x 200 copper with mag moonshine raspberry carbon 1 x Downrigger @45 with standard streak bloody nose uv 1 x Downrigger @ 45 with stand streak Smurf 3 x Diver @ 120 with standard streak blue whale 1 x 150 copper with stingray mixed veggie uv.
  9. Saturday afternoon I was looking at the forecast up and down the coast. Didn't really like what I was seeing most places but settled on giving Ludington a try. Got a camping site at the State Park and drove up. Woke up around 4:30 am and decided it sounded too windy. Woke up again at 6:30 and decided to give it a shot - since I was already in town. Well, motores out past the pier heads and about 2 miles out started getting some pretty big swells out of the NW. I'd say mostly 1.5-2 feet but some definitely felt like over 3 feet. I got a smaller king setting lines and after netting it decided to turn around and troll back to port. Picked up 5 lb king in 50 fow. Then nothing until I crossed between the pier heads. I was in the process of rigging a few lines for some pike when the down rigger goes. Nice 7 something lb king. Started doing loops between the pier heads and picked up 2 more. Down rigger hits came with the spoon 5 feet back or so. Wouldn't touch it with a longer lead. LiveScope was showing a decent concentration of fish. With a surprise limit went back to the launch and loaded up and drove home. Got home before 2 pm. Fish hit the following: Stingray Jager Bomb - 100 Copper - king Stingray Orange Edge - 150 Copper - king Silver Streak Mag Chilly Willy - Downrigger 19 down - king Moonshine Mag Mongolian Beef - 3 Color Lead core - miss on a nice fish. Silver Streak Mag Ludington Hulk - missed another nice one Moonshine Custom Mag RV Double Trouble - Downrigger at 21 - king Moonshine Standard RV Bad Toad - 3 Color Lead Core - king. Speed everywhere from 2.0 to 3.5. Some people may complain about leaking that fish are at the pier heads. However I only saw one other boat do a couple loops. Plus fishing offshore is really hot right now. And it's where I would have wanted to fish had the waves let me.
  10. Fished Muskegon this morning. Went between 50 and 140 fow. Ended up 9/10 with 8 kings and a steelhead. Mag and standard size spoons down 30 to 60. Ended up close to Duck Lake and then trolled south for a few hours. No hits after 9:30 am - except the steelhead.
  11. Set up by the power plant around 11 am. Found 50 degree water and marked fish but after 2 hours of no bites we decided the next to nothing for visibility wasn't going to work. Moved out to 100 for and the visibility was still less than 3 feet. Tried out there for a few hours and got 2 coho on the brads thin fish red squiggles. Also had a lake trout snap on a modified blue dolphin mag near bottom, but didn't stay on long. Boat worked great and managed to burn a decent amount of last years gas off.
  12. Try it with the large ring. What offset setting/number are you using? The more it's set to pull to the side, the more likely it'll flip over.
  13. Need quality ball bearing swivels to prevent twist. Also, do you know what brand of line and lb test you're using? When I started I was doing the rubber band method on blacks releases, then I got rid of the rubber bands and just use the blacks. No problems in 11 years of big lake fishing for me.
  14. Great job. Fished south of you, 2 of us ended up 9 for 11 all steel. We're trying to pack lines up after our limit and ended up picking three more up. 3 color and regular divers back 35 worked well for us with spoons.
  15. Got a good one recently while jigging in the boat for whitefish.
  16. Welcome. Most people active on the site fish Holland and Port Sheldon. Some good reports on here in the summer.
  17. Good to hear the fish are still around. Thanks for the report!
  18. Was thinking about heading out this afternoon, but my gear is a mess after an Northern Ontario walleye trip. I understand a good number of fish are out in 180-220.
  19. Ran back to Pt Betsie and set up in 80. Hit 2 kings right at 9:30. Lost the bigger one right behind the boat. Ended the day 5/8. Long day on the water, but amazing scenery and great weather.
  20. Decided they weren't coho. We did pick up one coho on a plug up high and 2 more lake trout.
  21. What lures am I supposed to be using?
  22. Pods of dozens of bigger fish north end of West Platt Bay. 6 fow. Cannot get them to bite.
  23. Been out fishing since 2 pm. Started north of Pt Bestie and worked around into West Platte. Now working around to the east side of West Platte to go around to East Platte. Not marking too much but most markets have been in 50-70 fow. 1/2 right now. Got a small laker on a flasher fly.
  24. Nothing. Just tough conditions with the flip. Bait is on the beach or out past 200, maybe 300 feet of water.
  25. We tried that in Saugatuck for an hour with nothing. Then we switched up and trailered to Grand Haven. Ended up 5/7 in Grand Haven. 4 kings and a coho. All kings cought in 45 fow on plugs in front of the piers. One hour of chaos from 8 to 9 pm.
