Hey guys you gotta checkout the NOAA visual wave forecast.
Press start or just scroll thru it to get a better idea
If its correct you should expect 3-4footers around 4pm
-
I agree with ekbelt. I was worried about the same thing before my shakedown trip but it didn't affect them.
In fact the fish have been in the same general area for the last couple weeks and all the winds we've had hasn't pushed them very much at all.
-
cant argue with a successful shakedown!

A bit rough out there but the fish are biting so who cares:thumb:
Ended up 7 for 14, lost a few behind the boat that must have thought they were steelhead because they wouldnt stop jumping!

i have an 18 foot four winns and ive been out to 250 in the right conditions.
You have to check the nearshore AND the open lake forecast to get an idea of whats going on
-
My yet to be named boat will be there. Ive been ready since last october
-
What depth were you fishing? How fast?
I fish just north of holland and west troll at 2.3SOG has been best. Sometimes making turns and changing speeds help to triiger the bites.
My riggers were best 90-115 down lately but shallower could be better with the north blow lately. Mag spoons have been the key with all the large bait they're eating, but flasher flys have been taking some fish.
-
what about coho up close?
coho have been deep lately. 180-220FOW surface to 130 down.
-
Thanks... heading out tonight. Looks like they didnt move much at all.
Nice work! What did you get the big king on?
King came on the 10in uv spindoctor and a BW fruity frostices uv fly. Not sure on the name of the spin doctor but its kinda holographic uv tape on both sides.
It was only a 10lber but it absolutely hammered it. Also from the chatter i heard it seems fish are being caught shallower in the water column too.

Hey all pretty tired so short and sweet.
Went 3-4 all kings biggest 13lbs. All came on Mag flounder pounder on rigger 90-110 foot down. 140-160FOW west troll 40 degrees on surface.
Not a bad way to kickoff the season!

Thanks for the tips guys.
Im going to stick with my gameplan of starting around 90-100FOW and head west. Just hope the wave forecast is correct and this blow dies down!
-
Im planning on making my shakedown trip tomorrow morning and have been watching the water temps pretty closely.
All this wind has dropped the surface temps back into the upper 30's last night.
Do you think its still worth trying out deep for some kings or coho like have been caught recently? Or would skinny water be the better idea now?

ive got a happy troller on my 130hp outboard and it works pretty well for me. Im thinking about tryin bags but if it aint broke....
