Great day fiahing. Landed 7 of 8 from 6:00 to 8:30.
Setup in 65FOW marking lots of bait n fish and trolled out to 115 before taking a fish. Turned north and the action started! 115 to 120 was best.
What worked
8in green dots SD with hitman mirage noseeum on dipsy set 2 back 120 took 3
10in mt dew SD with rapture hypnotist dipsy set 2 130 took 2
flounder pounder plug on rigger at 40 took 1
DW mixed veggies mag on rigger down 55 took 1 missed one.
Glad i could finally tune my spinnies in.

port sheldon this morning i couldnt keep my 10in mtdew/glowcrushtape down for more then 10minutes. ran with a rapture hypnotist fly 30inches back. 8inch green dots with hitman mirage noseeum 21back also took a lot.

Nice to see you getting your daughter out fishing.

Nice job Joe.
How are you rigging your spin doctors and flies? How much line between SD and fly, and what holes on the SD?
I was running 8in fish bechholdnson fishcathchers. Connected in the hole on the right where the fin comes to the bottom. Flies were roughly 32in behind.
Perhaps a shorter lead? And im goin to pickup a couple spin drs and pro trolls to expand my spread

nice job. I fished the same waters and couldnt buy a bite on flasher/flies. Only got 1 king. Luck of the draw

What a morning. Couldnt keep em hooked up.
Ended 1 for 7 plus a shaker steelie.
Surface was 55 at pierheads at 5:30, and back to 68 by noon.
Fished everywhere from 60-160. Only boxed fish was 16lb king in 82fow on a rigger 65 down with mag double trouble.
Lost 3 fish on mag lemon ice, dispy set 2 back 150, in 140,120,and 82FOW
Lost 2 on rigger down 55 with blue/orange ladderback in 90 and 81FOW
Couldnt buy a bite on flasher/flies! Confusing especially with everybody raving about them.
Do spin doctors make that much difference??? I was using bechhold and son 8inch fish catchers, with hypnotist and blue hypnotist flies. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated.
at least i beat the skunk, and it was a beautiful morning.

No salmon but plenty of walleye in the grand!

Say that 5 times fast!
What size/color/brand of flashers do you guys like the most? Im looking to increase my arsenal.
-
Strange almost all my steelies have come off dipsys.
Mostly on spoons behind dipsys though, with the usual colors. Jawbreaker, Orange Slice etc
Usually from 80-140 back set on 2

good to see lots of big fish. Ive caught my biggest ever this year at 23lbs

Left dock a little after 5 and setup in 75FOW heading due west. Made it out to 120 with nothing and turned back east.
at 6:15 rigger down 65 with a mongolian beef plug takes a 15lb king in 90Fow.
Made it in to 75 and turned back west. Hit a double in 95Fow, first was rigger down 75 with a regular happe meal, followed by a dipsy back 175 with a mag double trouble. 13 and 14lb kings.
Made it back out to 120 and turned around again. Switched out a few spoons and in 93Fow rigger down 75 with a mag blue dolphin takes a 16lb king.
Headed back west one more time but the waves were steady building and decided to head in around 9:00.

First of all id like to say, what a beautiful night it was. Glass by the end of the night. Ended 3 for 3.
Arrived at port sheldon a bit late around 6:30 and managed to get through the onslaught of people loading and setup in 75Fow just before 7.
First hit came on a meat rig w/ 2 green teasers behind a big weenie 11" dodger on the downrigger set at 65, in about 95Fow. 23lb King. (First time using this rig)
Second fish came in 120Fow dipsy set 2 back 150 blue flasher fly. 10lb king
All on a west troll 2.4 SOG.
turned back east and switched out a few lures to moonshines and had nothing till sundown and hit a 15lb king on a flounder pounder down 55 in 82Fow.
Not a bad night on the water, even some fireworks on the way in, will be out saturday Pm again.
Pics soon.

im be out most of the weekend. With all the combat fishing ill either be running north or south, havent decided yet. Saugy and Gh/Muskegon have been doing well.
-
both those places def have them. I believe theres also a place in saugatuk and a place in benton harbor that has them too.

Was wondering if anyone knew where you can find fresh herring on the west side of the state? Any help would be appreciated!!
as in frozen strips or frozen whole?
Gold coast outfitters has both in port sheldon. I beileve The Outdoorsman in Jenison has them too

ive caught quite a few steelies on my braid diver back 90' on setting 2 with a jawbreaker stinger.

Yes i guess my post was misleading.
Im not replacing my full core or copper, Im asking what new ones i should get?
Should i go with 2 more cores? Say a 5 color and a 3 color? or a 7 color instead of the 3?
Or should i get a short copper? Theres jus so many possibilities my heads spinning.
on a side note, does swr rigs make a big difference in your guys catch? or jus bout the same as a regular rigger? Ive only got 2 riggers on my boat wondering if a swr would be worth it?
-
Hey all,
Im looking to expand my setup. I usually run 2 riggers 2 dipsys a copper and a lead.
My problem right now is I only have a full core and a 300' 32lb copper.
Im looking to get a new reel with copper and a new reel with lead.
What size of each should i go with? Any idea on how much each is going to set me back?
