  1. Has anyone used the probes that you clip in the rigger weight and send it down to get the temps at 5 ft intervals? Not sure of the name.
  2. Has anyone fished out of Cozumel MX before? Any suggestions on what charter to use?
  3. How do you run a meat rig? Like a f/f? What is the go to meat?
  4. I am going to be buying a wire combo for next season but what makes the wire so much better than braid?
  5. Ok I go out of GH today and troll along the beach? Never done that. Sounds fun. What size and color? What about running spoons? Short supply of rapalas. Any suggestions for salmon?
  6. Do you have specifics? FOW? Riggers? Dipseys? How far back? Thinking about going today. Thanks, Dave
  7. Do you have specifics? FOW? Riggers? Dipseys? How far back? Thinking about going today. Thanks, Dave
  8. Where would you snap a dive bomb on to a copper setup?
  9. The struggle continues- went NW to 225 fow and trolled to 265 with nothing. Spoons- tried all sizes and colors on riggers, sliders, 10 color, and 300 copper with nothing. Finally the dipsey 200 back on 1 went with a big white paddle and pickled sunshine fly. 1 small king and that's all she wrote. Tried riggers from 45-100 down- blow back was huge at 100 so not sure what actual was. Not exactly prime time to fish as we trolled from 11:30 to 4 but I thought we should be able to do better than that. Tried 2.2-3.2 sog, zig zagging, and anything else I could think of. Oh well, great day to be on the water and I am not giving up yet. Reading the reports of 12-14 fish days keeps me motivated. Good luck, Dave
  10. Heading out of Holland in the a.m. tomorrow (10/11) Where to start and what to use? Thanks, Dave
  11. Fished solo last night. Went 2-2 if you count the 12 inch free riding coho when I pulled lines at 7:30. First fish was a 13# laker (released) in 230 fow, 90 down on a MS blue flounder slider. Fished from 180 fow to 250 and marked fish all night with very few above 100 ft. There were a few boats in the 100-150 range but not sure how they did. Surface temps were around 62 everywhere. I tried every size and color spoon I had with nothing happening. Nothing on the dipsey with a SD and blue bubble either. Oh well, it sure was nice out there. Plan on going all weekend so will post the results...hopefully with better luck. I would appreciate some helpful hints if anyone cares to throw them out there. Good luck, Dave
  12. I only have 1 dipsey and it is a braid. Hopefully will have another next year. Sounds like I should consider wire. What are the pro's and con's to wire? Are they difficult to fish with? Regarding probes- has anyone used the one you put on the rigger and it tells you the temp at each 5 ft increments? I think it is a fishhawk? Has anyone considered a 12 step class for the addicts on this site?
  13. Thanks for the report Ben. Don't be stingy on the tips I/we need all the help we can get. I went 0 for 0 last time out. Anyway, if Don is his name from Tangled Mess he is a very nice guy. He actually cleaned my fish for me once this summer when the cleaning station was packed. Thanks again. Dave
  14. I had never had problems either although I just started using them too. They were tangling with the mainline. I thought maybe cause it was rough and the boat was rocking pretty good. That was the biggest change from anything before. Another question though, can you adjust depth of ball up or down with a slider on? Anyway, just read your report with fish on the sliders and got me thinkin. Thanks, Dave
  15. Hi Ben, I was out of holland last night and could not keep my sliders from tangling. Thought maybe because it was too rough and the rock of the boat was pulling the slider down to the mainline. Could it be that it was too rough? Thanks for your report as well. I knew we should have gone early. Good fishin, Dave
  16. Not exactly prime time but fished from 2-6 today. Not much going. Went 1 for 2. The missed one was on mixed vegy's with my 9 year old son wanting to man the net. The side swipe didn't work. Looked like 6-7 lb king. Second one hit the rigger 50 down in 125 fow. Turns out it hit the slider- JP Slammer- MI Sunset- (Thanks Jim Bobber) The fish runs into my sons chute rod he is holding with a dive bomb on. So now it is on both rods and running crazy. It breaks off the rigger rod my wife has but still on the chute rod??? Get it to the back of the boat and the pink panties that was on the rigger is hooked with the happy meal treble to treble with the slider JP Slammer hooked in the fish. Crazy but good times with the family. The fish was 16 lbs. Quite large for us. Marked a lot of bait and fish all afternoon from 85 to 135. Also went Sat. from noon to 2. Way to foggy. Made one loop out to 50 and headed back in to the channel. Turning around in lake Mac one hit the bloody nose as I sped up to get back in line. Never saw the fish but definitely big. Made me think I have a lot to learn and need more variety in my setups when I was marking fish all afternoon and could not get them to go. Not too many days like this left this year. Dave
  17. Any reports out of Holland? Planning on going Sat and Sunday.
  18. Fished (south) solo this a.m. and went 2 for 5. Rigger 50 down, 80 fow, bloody nose. #2- Rigger 50 down, 130 fow, mixed vegy's. Shortened my leader on my dipsey and not even a look with a big white paddle and pickled sunshine fly. Going back to 10-11 foot leader and figure out how to get them in after I get them on. Also tried 300 copper with green paddle and green fly with nothing doing on that as well. Both fish were 7-8 lbs. The 3 I lost were on the mixed vegys and bloody nose. 2 were jumpers that spit it in the air. Some nice fish at the cleaning station but not the full coolers as there has been. Although that was at 11:00. Great morning. Good luck, Dave
  19. Since my rod selection is limited- and it is not very prudent to put out a full core or 300 copper when the fish are in close I was thinking of putting out one of my extra rigger rods with a 2 or 4 oz. dive bomb behind a walleye board. Would this work? If so, how much line should I let out behind the dive bomb? Any idea on how deep a set up like this would run? As always, thanks in advance. Dave
  20. Good stuff- Thanks. Will try loosening the drags up and let them play out more. Probably horsing them in a bit to much. May take a foot or so off the leader length as well. Don't want to mess with the set up to much if its working. Thanks again, Dave
