  1. What size spoon? Standard, magnums, thins?
  2. I am hoping the weather is going to cooperate this weekend and want to get as much fishing in as I can. Not a big fan of fishing the crowds and don't necessarily need to catch the big ones as well. What setup do most of you start with and where do you start if you dont want to fish the channel or right out front- I will be fishing out of Holland. What about after the run is over? Do you stick with plugs? Thanks in advance for the much needed help. Dave
  3. Not hi-jacking the thread but on average how far back from the ball do you run a f/f combo?
  4. Fished solo from 6:30 to 9:30. Went 1 for 2. Both on the rigger south troll set at 105 in 150 fow on a UV blue vegy slider. Nothing on the full core with white black ladder back plug that was good on Sunday night. Tried my new 150 copper from Lakeshore but nothing going on that with a green splatter back plug. Marked lots of fish all night from 120-175 but could not get them to go. Great night on the water. Sounded like it was better out deeper as there were quite a few guys cleaning fish but no one really got into them by the sounds of it. Good luck, Dave
  5. Finally got out after 3 weeks off. Quick trip with the fam. 3:30 to 6:00. Started in 70 fow. After reading chandlers report this morning I put a white black ladder back ace hi on the full core first. Just put the board on and letting it out to the side went to put it in the holder and wammo- fish on. Thought great start but only picked 1 more up on the same rig. Nothing going on dipseys or riggers. What worked: 2 for 2 Full core white black ladder back ace hi- 6lb and 10 lb king 70 and 90 fow. Good luck and thanks for the reports and much needed advice.
  6. Fished till 9:30 and went 5 for 9 in 80-110 fow south. 3 nice mid teen kings, 1 about 5 lbs and a 7 lb steelhead. Averaged around 2.8 sog and direction did not matter. 2 fish on 300 copper with a super screw and lost 2 dandies at the back of the boat. Rigger at 80 with a MS Happy Meal Full core with a UV Yeager Bomb- Steelhead Wire dipsey on 2 back 125 with a big white paddle and pickle sunshine fly. Ended with a double with one on the core and one on the rigger. Just ready to net and he took a little run and snap- there goes the flounder pounder and double orange crush slider. That made 4 spoons lost and one 300 cop that started unraveling and needed to be threaded thru the eyes to get it on the reel but still managed to get the fish in. Lots of boats and lots of fish at the cleaning station. Great night to be out.
  7. What a fun quick trip. Fished from 10-11:30 and went 5 for 6 in 90-120 fow. Started a little south and trolled N-NW the whole time. What worked- Rigger MS Rv bloody nose 70 dn 9 lb king Rigger blue flounder pounder 12 lb king Full core- double orange crush 14 lb king Rigger- blue flounder pounder 70 dn 6 and 8 lb steelhead. Nothing on the 300 copper with a Carmel dolphin. Never even got the dipseys out or tried a f/f. Fished with my dad and son. Great memories.
  8. Quick trip tonight. Fished from 7-9:15 and went 3 for 7. Everything was between 8:00-9:00 in 80 to 100 fow in front of tunnel park. SOG was from 0 to 4.0 as the wife and kids were driving and doing 90 degree turns. Sure had fun though. What worked- 6lb salmon- 100 fow- 80 dn MS RV Bloody nose 9 lb salmon- 90 fow- 300 copper MS Blue Flounder Pounder 14 lb salmon 100 fow- 300 copper MS Blue Flounder Pounder- first time I ever had a board dive. That was a workout. Plus it tangled with the core on the opposite side of the boat. May have been do to the driving techniques. Had our first steelhead on and my son was at the reel. The look on his face when it was flying across the water with the drag sizzling was unforgettable. So much for the wave report of 1 ft or less. Was quite bumpy. Marked all kinds of bait in that water all night but not a lot of fish. Other fish lost were on UV blue dolphin and had 1 rip on a JP slammer MI Sunset. Good luck out there.
  9. What a great day with my 10 yr old son. Set lines in 75 fow at 6:30 marking a ton of bait. Couldn't get anything to go for a good hour. Then picked away at them till 9:30. In total went 6 for 10 with 2 laker throw backs. Then headed to the Saugy channel for some catfish to keep my partner interested. 5 nice cats later and we headed back out to 135 fow straight out from Saugy on a north troll. Just got the first rigger down 80 with a green dolphin and whamo nice king (16 lbs) almost took my son out the back of the boat. Fished 150 back to 135 and took 2 more kings. Marked a lot of fish in the 130 range. Here is what worked: Full core- BLL MI Sunset- 9 lb king Rigger- down 80 135 fow mag green dolphin, 16 lb king Rigger- down 85 130 fow MS RV series Bloody nose 4 lb king Rigger- down 60 80 fow carmel dolphin- shaker Rigger- MS RV Bloody nose 100 fow- down 80 laker Rigger- Don't remember details- son was chumming- laker 5 catfish- down 12-16 ft- crawlers Good day to be a Father. Good luck, Dave
  10. Fished solo this morning from 6:15-9:00 and went 3 for 6 in 65-100 fow half way to PS. Speed was 2.4-2.8 sog. Best direction was mostly east. Fished 2 riggers and a wire dipsey. 1st fish- 4lb salmon- rigger 50 down UV blue dolphin 2nd fish- 12lb salmon- rigger 70 down MS RV Bloody nose 3rd fish- 3lb salmon- rigger 50 down UV blue dolphin Had 2 good rips on wire dipsey with big white fish scale paddle and pickle sunshine fly back 75 on 2. Tummies were full with minnow size to 6 inchers. Beautiful morning on the water. Marked a lot of bait on the bottom. Radio chatter sounded like it was good in the 130 range as well. Good luck out there.
  11. Heading out of Holland in the morning for a few hours. Where to start and with what- mostly spoons or F/F?
  12. I will give that a shot. I tried moving it down and closer to the motor already. I will go back the other way as far as I can. The transducer is mounted to a white fiberglass board so I will be limited to how far I can go. There is nothing in the way currently as far as a strake or anything. Worth a shot. Thanks again. Dave
  13. Fished from 6:00-10:00 last night and went 3-5. Fished from 80-150 fow in front of the sliders. Just could not get it figured out. Here is what worked: if you can call it that. 4 lb salmon 300 copper JJ MacMuffin 100 fow 8 lb laker wire dipsey 8" white SD with a green fly- first ever fish on the new wire combo and it had to be a laker... Shaker on a full core with a happy meal Rigger- lost a big fish that just slammed a white spinny white fly that nearly pulled my son out the back of the boat while I was resetting the core. 65 down in 100 fow. One boat went south to Saugy in the 80-100 ft range and had 9 at the cleaning station. Most chatter was guys trying to get it figured out as it was slow. Good luck, Dave
  14. I have a Lowrance HDS7 and works great but the screen gets fuzzy at anything more than a fast troll. I am thinking transducer location is the issue but any ideas as to mounting location? Lower or more below the bottom of the stern? It still picks up the depth but I can't tell if I am running right over the fish or not. Thanks....again.
  15. Fished solo from 6:30 to 10:00. 5 for 6 on kings 2 at 13 lbs and the rest 3-4 lbs each. The 2 big ones came on the slider with the rigger parked at 100 in 150 fow on a PK Special. One small one on the PK slider as well in 130 with the rigger at 100. The other 2 were on the 300 copper in 175 fow- mixed vegys spoon. SOG was around 2.8. Landed 2 of 3 on a triple with both riggers going at once and the 300 copper. Grinning from ear to ear even when it dove for the wire dipsey. Got lucky and did not even tangle. Great morning!! Good luck, Dave
  16. Channel 68? Trying to get out of Holland but after kids get on bus...
  17. How long should you charge your spoons up and do you charge the UV paddles as well?
  18. Nice job Ken and thanks for the advice on Saturday night. Too bad I had motor trouble and never really got to try anything out.
  19. Hi Phil, how long of leads were you running? From dipsey to loop? And loop to hook?
  20. Where do you put your dive bombs on the core and copper set ups?
  21. What knot do you use from wire to swivel?
  22. Ok, just bought my 1st wire dipsey combo and have read a lot of the posts on them which all help but what are the most important things I need to know when fishing with them? From the basics to details. Sounds like I need to be careful when letting them out. What about drag? Mag dipsey? Mostly flasher/fly? Thanks in advance. I 'm pumped to get out there and try the new stuff. Dave
