  1. I wonder with all of these cuts being made and the impact it will create not only on local communities but Michigan tourism industry as a whole, if some private firm, sportsmans club, any association with interest in these areas will help try to pick up the slack. Meaning that, could this be better served by being run by the private sector? The thought I am having here is, that monies raised for fishing would go directly to the fishery. Not just the fishing, but hunting waterfowl, I mean everything. There wouldn't be the political crap that goes along with State & Fed. Government overseeing things. Things would be totally different, but is change the worst thing here. If something doesn't change and we continue down the road to cutting as much as we can, we as sportmen and women of Michigan stand to lose a lot!!!
  2. Sad day indeed. Mine is still sittin in the driveway waiting for an oil change and some antifreeze. I just can't bring myself to do it.
  3. I know fishinfreak has a few fishlander captains choice that work awesome. Check them out. He has them posted on this site for sale. Here is the link http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7047
  4. I have fished w/dipsy's ever since I started salmon fishing, they work great. I have fished lake erie one time with success using jet divers, but have never used them for salmon. I am always looking for a new weapon for my arsenal, just wondering if anyone uses jet divers for salmon with success. Furthermore; I watch michigan public television every thursday, looking mainly for fishing segments. I saw an episode where a charter captain was using dipsy's on lake erie going for the walleye. Haven't tried it yet, but next summer will give it a wirl and see what the result is. Good Luck...
  5. I love the port of pentwater. Has produced the most fish this year for me. Started out in 140fow south of the piers. On the water setting lines right at sun - up. 4 for 9, not the best percentage, but I think the sliders had something to do with this. Leadcore was good, Double orange crush on the 1/2 core took 1, fishlander's silver confusion took 1 on a full core. One on a meat rig behind a big hootchie white/pink 50'down, and finally one on a dipsy, no ring, set on #3 with a red spin doctor/red&white fly combo. 2 kings, 1 steelie, and 1 coho. Only fish that had bait in it's belly was the steelie, the bait was very small, maybe up to an 1-1/2". The coho wasn't huge but had loose eggs, ready to run. All fish were female. Action was fast, then somebody hit the switch and it died. That will probably do it for the salmon fishing this year, unless we get some awesome weather in November.
  6. I was kind of thinking that would be the case. But always good to know what was going on lately. Thanks for the comeback. Will post results after the weekend.
  7. Going to giver' a go this weekend out of Pwater. Any insight on where and what to start with? Thanks...
  8. Boat maybe in AuGres slipped from june - july if so I will enter my boat. If not, willing to work on someone elses boat for the day....
  9. Awesome SWII. I spent some time one Erie over in canada this summer, and what a blast it is when you can pull steel and eye's at the same time. Your action sounds kick A$$!!!! Thanks for sharing.
  10. I have a good friend from college that has opened up his own production studio. If anyone would be interested let me know, I am certain he would be down with filming & then editing some footage.
  11. I thought summer is over:confused: Diagnosed a problem with my boat that has been sitting for the last month. Took her out on the water, ya know, had to make sure everything was working ok. Big inland lake yielded some pike and some bass. I learned last year to keep the boat out until it is absolutely necassary to winterize. Phenomenal day to be on the water.....
  12. I agree. I have a good number of fishlander ultra glows, and they work well for me. I also have a few moonshine, they work as well, but I have not taken as many fish on moonshine this year.
  13. My BIL has bert's on his boat, and they work ok. The problem is that the ratcheting hardware is broke, so if you go for a rod the whole rod holder slips. To fix this problem we have been using clothes pins as a shim to sure up the ratcheting part of the holder. Which is fine, but $ for $ when you spend upwards of $70 per rod holder, not to mention the track, and then it break on you, I couldn't deal with that. Check out those fishlanders, go to their website, They kick a$$.
  14. Did very well one day this year with a green glow squid, jumbo size white crush hootchie on a full core. As fast as you could get one in, put the rig back out, is how fast we were taking hits.
  15. I recently picked up 2 triple rod holders made by fishlander. My buddy didn't even want to let me borrow them the first time, he said I would never want to fish without them. The adjustability is great, I had not one problem running 2 dipsy's and one planer off of one side. Super easy to mount and super easy to manipulate. I've looked at all of these other big jon, berts, etc...and my buddy was right, I'll never fish w/out!!!
  16. IMO Make sure that your vehicle is going to be able to pull the boat out of the water no problem. I have seen it a few times this year at a public launch when someone is trying to pull the boat out of the water but just sits there and spins tires. Eventually they had pulled the boat out of the water, but I had time to dock my boat, put it on the trailer, pull it out, and put all my gear away before this guy even left the dock. I have never used my 4x4 to pull my boat out, so my best guess is that a good set of tires maybe key. I think the one thing that can go a long ways for everyone, cause we have all been in the situation waiting for someone, or maybe have even been that guy, is to be patient and not fly off the handle!!!
  17. I have smoked turkey before and never used any kind of brine. Just threw it on and several beers later it was ready for consumption. Never tried this one either, but when you deep fry a turkey you can inject it with whatever flavor it is you want, I wonder if you did that to a smoked turkey if the flavor would turnout good too. I do know that the turkey I ate off my smoker was devoured by everyone there. Not too mention that everyone at the party told me that the turkey was awesome.
  18. That sounds like great fishing, not to mention great for the fishery with a strong run up the river.
  19. Much appreciated Frank, never knew it was that easy to fall in love!!!!
  20. Frank, you are cracking me up, I am laughing my @$$ off after reading that comeback. Good one! You been doing any good on those tasty perch up your way? Good luck
  21. I can't stand thiefs!!!!!! This somehow will adversely affect a lot of people who care a lot about their fishery, pouy!!!!!!!!!
  22. Had a good feeling that some fish have been in the rivers for a while now, but that one confirms it. Being so dark!!! Hopefully it will be a good run again this year. Thanks for the pics...
  23. Fishing was red hot this past weekend. We fished in 100-140fow. Good number of double headers, my first triple, and lots and lots of fish. Good combo's flasher w/red meat rig, jumbo hootchie with green glow squid full core only in the morning, flasher flies, and canadian plugs down 65-108. Action was fast and furious all day on Saturday with a total of 15 for 27. We started up Sunday morning right where we left off on Sat. eve and just kept nailing them going 5 for 12 Sunday. Had to go Sunday morning, but if able to stay out and fish longer we would have finished with our limits. Took 3 in a row on the squid full core setup, as fast as you could put it out we were taking hits on it. Meat outproduced everything else, but at least everything else was working too, which made the action pretty fast.
  24. Fishing right outside of Onekema should be as good as anywhere else in the area. Have fished Onekema a few times, to the north of the piers is a spot they call the barrel. It comes from shore, drops from 50 - 140fow and then goes back up to like 70 fow then as you head west is the shelf. A friend of mines dad lives up there and he fishes it all the time with good success. Last time he was up the just circled the barrel, using canadian plugs, and moonshine glow spoons, I would also recomend putting out some meat rigs, and this should be a recipe for a good morning. Good Luck... Radio chatter is 68 - 06 -07, 6&7 seem to be more locals.
  25. Well, some of your gear may not have faired so well, but @ least you brought back some meat for the smoker. I don't know if you saw me on 55, I waved @ you as you passed by me heading home. I fished this weekend too in manistee, and we couldn't get anything going. few hits, one landed. I don't know, I would rather have all those problems and still catch fish, then not catch fish at all. Glad to hear you did well. Good Luck...
