  1. I just bought a 19' Monark 190 King, which is an aluminum boat. It has a stepped transom. I measure the transom where I want to mount the kicker. It is 23" from the top of the transom straight down to the bottom of the hull. The lowest point of the hull (under the main motor) is 28 inches.

Can I get away with running a long shaft (20 inches), or do I need to run a xl long (25 inches) shaft?

I really don't want to run a bracket and hope one of the 2 will work.

    Thanks,

    Brandon

  2. Well I changed my mind...go figure!

I ended up buying two new Big Jon electric Capt. Paks. I paid $545 for the pair combined. They were kinda stripped down though. They only have a clamp on rod holder instead of the 2 adjustables. It is also missing the ball cradle. They will get me in the game cheap. I was going to put them on traxstech track swivels anyway. I will buy the auto stops down the road if I think I need them. I feel better buying a michigan made product versus the Walkers that were Canadian made. Also like the sectional booms so I can find which lengths work well for me. Tip up booms are a plus too. Thanks for all the recommendations.

Hopefully I can hit the big water before the year is over.

  3. I think I am going to go with the Walker Kokanee Electrics. They have 3 foot booms, auto stops, and positive ion, and swivel mounts. For 384 each I didnt think that was bad. I am only going to run 2 off the sides towards the back of boat. Wish i could run them straight off the rear, but I have a seat that folds down into a casting platform that would get in the way.

I found some used cannon 10 mags with 42 inch booms on ebay that I also liked, but they don't have the auto shut off. You guys seem to think the auto shut offs are the way to go to save time and gear.

    Thanks for the help,

    Brandon

  4. Just got back from picking up the boat. The boat is really clean and all the issues can easily be corrected. I don't know much about what went down with much, but John was upfront about the issues with me. The motor can easily be dropped down a notch. With all used stuff though, you definitely absorb some risk. Only time will tell though.

    Thanks guys,

    Brandon

  5. I pick up my new boat tomorrow and need a combo unit. I have it narrowed down to 2. 1st is a humminbird 788 ci. The 2nd is a Raymarine Raymarine A-Series Chartplotter/Fishfinder with Inland US Charts.

My last boat had a Humminbird 757 ci and I liked it but I had to send it in the first year for a new transducer. Customer service had it back in a week though. I also didn't really care for how the unit snapped into the mount.

I can get the bird for less than $500. I can get the Raymarine for just over $700. I have heard nothing but great things about the Raymarine. Just want to know if it is worth the extra $215?

I have a place on Houghton Lake so that's where it will mostly be used. I will also be fishing the Sag Bay, Lake Huron, and Lake Michigan.

Spending the money for the Raymarine isn't a problem as long as I am getting a superior product.

    Thanks

  6. What size downrigger booms should I be looking at? I had short booms on my 16.5 lund. I am picking up my new to me boat this Saturday and want to start outfitting it with tracks and riggers. Just want to know if you guys like 42 inch booms or the 2 fters? I need to get 2 for a 19ft aluminum boat.

    Thanks,

    Brandon

  7. There is a boat at Signature Motors in Alpena right on US 23 that I am interested in. Just don't want to drive from Flint Area only to find out it is a pile. I know it is a long shot. Just hoping someone lives real close and likes to look at boats:) Would be willing to ship someone some new spoons for checking it out. If willing please pm me. If not, looks like a road trip!

    Thanks,

    Brandon

  8. I have the itch to get another boat. Sold my Lund and want to get into a big water boat. Looking at a 1994 2355 Bayliner Ciera Sunbridge. The transom doesn't look the best for fishing, but what do I know? Also, the boat I am looking at had some gelcoat cracks in the hull that are getting fixed as we speak. Is that something to be worried about after it is fixed. Boat has less than 200 hours and is priced at 12,000. Does that seem inline with comparable boats?

    Thanks

    Brandon
