  1. Wow this snow is killing me. Have done 3 long driveways 3 times each with my quad starting last last night. I am whooped.

I definitely don't want to buy cheap junk, would rather but good stuff at a good price. I am going to call northwoods in a second and see what a convector setup would cost me compared to a 45dx setup. Not gonna get the 45x to only save 40 bucks on the 2 though.

Nick, I am gonna buy those penns for my riggers from you like we talked about.

    Thanks guys!

  2. My budget is getting slimmer by the day. I just got into this game and my walleye stuff will not cut it. I just put on bert tracks, bert ratcheting rod holders, 2 walker lake ranger manuals. I got the lecture tonight. I am going to start off by running 2 riggers and 2 dipsies off my 16.5 ft Lund. I have the 2 rods for the downriggers and that's it. I need 2 reels for the riggers and 2 rod/reel setups for my dipsies. I have a $300 budget for right now and I need to buy $150 worth of downrigger swivels. So that leaves me with $150. I will have more coin, but have to start collecting what I need. Rerigging a boat is not cheap, especially when going to salmon fishing:)

It sounds like the convectors are the way to go. Guess I will just have to bite the bullet.

    I want them to last.

  3. My wife has put the kabosh and my fishing budget so I have to budget shop. I need 2 dipsy setups that won't break the bank. I plan to run 2 dipsy rods with 30 lb braid. Will the accudepth 27lc's work with dipsys or should I go with Okuma 45dx's? I can get the diawas new for under $40 and not sure about the okumas. These will only get like 10 uses a year.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. When I got my Minnkota 3 bank charger, the guys from Johnson Outdoors told me to get the big Everstart batteries from Wall Mart. I am not a fan of Wall Mart any way, shape, or form! I was told the Ever Start batteries where made by Jonson Controls in Holland Mi., so I got two. I could not be happier with the Charger, or Batteries.

I fish Muskegon Lake in the fall. We use the trolling motor all night long with out fail. The charger is going on year 5 now, and is flawless.

My buddy and I were just taking about how good these batteries are today. They are the ones I buy when others take a dump!

I am just getting into salmon/trout fishing. My cousin had a boat when I was younger and we use to camp and fish out of Harrisville. I had a great time catching and fishing for salmon and lake trout. Just bought downriggers and I am currently riggin my boat for the big water. Can't wait to fill the live well being the captain! Love walleye fishing but always looking for a new challenge. I am a teacher so I have the perfect job to get out on the water. Hope to meet some of you guys/girls on the dock.

  6. Thanks guys. Ya, I wondered over from the other site. There is a lot of nonsense going on over there right now. I have been reading through this site and I am sure I am going to love it. I haven't seen anything negative.

    Nick,

I just finished reading the book the other day! It was an easy read with tons of good knowledge. I took a bunch of notes with my blackberry and even took pictures with my phone of some of the pages:)

I really appreciate you letting me read it. It will be back to you asap. Just need to take it to work and make some copies of the best lures and such.

    Thanks gain guys!

    Brandon

  7. I stumbled upon this site and thought I would sign up. Looks like a place where I could learn alot.

I am a 34 year old teacher from Clio. Took today off because my daughter is sick. Usually do most of my fishing on the Sag Bay and Houghton Lake (have a place on the east bay).

I recently decided to try my hand at big water trout and salmon. This will be my first year. I have a 16.5 foot Lund with a 90 horse Mercury and 4 horse kicker. Last night I mounted some Bert tracks for my 2 Walker manual riggers and 2 dipsy diver rods. What a nightmare that was. I used 3/4 inch oak trim as the backer and it was not easy to get all the washers and nuts on with the lack of room inside the gunnels. A few hours later the mission was accomplished.

I most likely will be launching out of ports like Port Sanilac, Grindstone, harbor Beach, etc. Just hoping I can get my hands on a few fish this year.

    Thanks for having me,

    Brandon aka sslopok
