  1. Nice Job Shane, I though about going out but decided to get some stuff done at home. Hopefully we'll see you out there next year.

    New Ride

It looks a little familiar for some reason Thanks for posting the pictures, it gave me some good info, now I know I'm going to be in trouble when I try to launch this weekend:mad:
  3. Nice job Jimmy. You were further north than I thought you were. We were looking for your clean water all morning but didn't find it till like 12:30.
  4. Headed out yesterday morning with only my youngest brother Daniel on board. On a tip for Don headed north west until we hit 230 fow then we slowed down to see if there was clear water. The water was still cloudy so we kept heading west checking the water every little bit got out to 250 fow still with no clear water so decided to set lines and keep heading west. We were marking quit a bit in the top 60 ft and then stuff 100 to the bottom. I set line high for starters with the exception of one wire diver 225 back. Well that diver took the first fish and as soon as my brother started fighting that one the rigger at 40 got hit. Dan landed a nice king and mine was a lot smaller. A little later in the morning ended up moving most of our lines deeper to see if the bigger fish were hanging out below. We didn't find clean water until the end of the morning and it was farther north and inside with cloudy on the inside and outside of it. Finished around 1:00pm at 10 for 14 6 kings, 3 steel, and 1 laker Also it was nice to be on the water with great weather and great company What took hits/fish: 3 color with Stinger grindstone - 1 small king 7 color with SS DW Acid Rain - 1 steel head 10 color with Raspberry Carbon Moonshine - 1 steelhead, 1 king, 1 lost steelhead 300 copper with Mag Silverstreak Hot Lobster - 2 kings Kevorkian freeslider on rigger at 40 - 1 small king Kevorkian fixed slider on rigger at 80 - 1 steelhead Blue Bubble echip w/ hypnotist fly on rigger at 150 - 2 hits but no fish landed Wirediver 225 out with Frog SD and It-l-do Yogurt fly - 1 king Wirediver 275 out with Carmel Dolphin SD and Xtreem UV Sunshine BW fly - 1 Laker, 1 hit
  5. Hey, no issues here. I think you are asking a very reasonable price for custom rods and hopefully I can add some to my spread at some point. Now it's just not in the budget with school and such.
  6. Any pictures of them? I bought a set of trees at the swap meet in Grandville MI last year for $75 for the pair that a guy made. They looked pretty good to begin with, but I did some work to them to make them work with my set up better (cut them down and made them swivel).
  7. If you can afford Shimonos, I'd say get them. I have the Okuma Blue diamond rods and had a couple of times this summer where the wire got along side the roller and got stuck. The Shimano rods have a lot smaller guides to keep the wire on the rollers better. I'd also be interested in Tony's (Eyefull's) non-roller wire rods. I'm not sure what they go for, but that gets rid of the whole issue of rollers, swivel tips, and all that.
  8. Looks like a great fishing platform. Has the other boat sold yet?
  9. HOLY &$^@ your not kidding. I was planning on going Saturday morning but unless the forecast changes drastically I don't think that is going to happen.
  10. we heard you and switched a couple rods. a purple and yellow silver streak on the 7 color did end up taking a nice steelhead
  11. Nice job Adam. Those pictures are cool but scary at the same time I think I may have seen one friday night when we tried to get out but it was way to our south, just above the horizon.
  12. That's what happens when you spend all evening on the dock drinking beers
  13. Nice job Shane. We weren't formally introduced, but I was the other guy at the fish cleaning station. Thanks again for the tip on the purple.
  14. Dave, I agree Don's a great guy and he's given me lots of tips. I just thought I see what he had to say before I started repeating everything I heard him say. One thing I don't think he'd mind me telling is that small spoons are the way to go as we get further into fall. I was still using mostly mags last night so that got me thinking on what would have happened if I had run some minis. Ken, What use is a boat if you are not going to use it? But really, I've been out more times this year than I have in the last 4 combined. Part of it was being able to go out in a lot more "iffy" conditions (When the fish were in the channel a month ago and there were steady 4-5 fters, I would never had risked it in the tin can) Part of it was just loving fishing and maybe skipping some other things to make it work to go. Also helps when I live close to the lake and can make it out for a few hours after work in the evenings.
  15. Made it out tonight a little after 4:30 right after the rain stopped. Started in 100 FOW heading west. Started out very slow. Was running paddles and spinnies deep on my one good rigger and the divers (marked lots of fish 80 to bottom). Couldn't get anything going. Finally took a hit on a glow Firedog JP slammer on the 5 color lead. My little brother lost that one when the steelie jumped a 50ft behind the boat. Then we didn't get anything for a long time. Finally moved the spread up a little to 60 to 70. Got a nice steelhead on the 7 color with a purple and yellow silverstreak. Then we got a king on the high diver pulling a frog SD and it-l-do yogurt fly 180ft back. Then right before sunset we got into a school of bait and hit a double while changing to the glow setup. Lost both of them but one was on a Silverstreak Hot Lobster 57 down on the rigger and also on the low diver with a flounder pounder moonshine. While resetting the rigger I felt another fish hit while attaching the slider and my brother got that one in the boat. Finished 3 for 6. Most was on south to north troll at 2.7 mph. Also got to overhear some great tips from Don of Tangled Mess charters at the fish cleaning station though I don't know if I'm at liberty to discuss them .
  16. I think this is a great idea but I don't have enough knowledge on the subject write the petition. On a side note, I find it interesting that 3 of the 12 petitions that are currently up there are for the legalization of marijuana.
  17. I love the short arms on my Walkers. I run them at 45 degrees off the corners and have no issues with tangles. I can just reach over the side of the boat and connect the line, no tipping up the arm or anything.
  18. I'm not sure what to tell you, are you saying the sliders are tangling with each other or with the main line? I've never had problems. I would make sure you have enough tension on the mainline so that the slider isn't sliding all the way down the line. Also, don't put the slider on until your downrigger is as far down as you are going to put it.
  19. Nice Job Terry and crew. When did you end up calling it a day? you looked like you were getting bounced around a bit when we headed in.
  20. Well as Jimmy said, it's too early to put the boat away, the fishing is still great Met my rider for the day, Mike, at the launch at 6:30. Had a feeling it was going to be a busy morning so only got out two downrigger rods and two leads. Motored out to 90 FOW strait out from the piers and started setting lines heading West. We got the lines set without incident but then it got busy. The downriggers with glow spoons on main lines and free sliders were on fire. The setups were Raspberry Carbon Moonshine on the rigger at 40 with a Flounder Pounder free slider and Mag Hot Lobster Silverstreak on the rigger at 54 with a Glow Yellow Tail Silverstreak free slider. At one point the Hot lobster and the Yellow tail both had fish on them (unfortunately we didn't get them both in the boat ) We made it out to 150 FOW before there was a break in the action and we had 5 in the box, a mix of cohos and kings from 3-6 lbs. We started turning around to head back thru the water and got a hit on the Raspberry carbon. He took of to the port side of the boat and we knew he was a good fish. I ended up moving the lead on that side to the otherside of the boat so he wouldn't get tied up. When that fish was within 20 feet of the boat, the other rigger and 10 color go off simataneously, the first triple ever on my boat . Mike nets his fish while I hold his pole and the other rigger pole while the lead it screaming out. I get my fish up to the boat and it's hooked in the side and half the skin is ripped off the side. As he was coming in the net the hook pulled out and he swam away (I don't know how, half skinned like that). Mike gets the other fish in the boat (on a mag Easter Egg Silverstreak). Those two ended up being 14 and 12 lb kings. It was 8:30 and we had 7 in the box. After that it went dead. We went back and forth thru that water a few more times with only a few hits and one small keeper that we threw back, hoping we would need room in the cooler for something else. We made our way out to 170 with no better luck finally got a hit on a tip from Dirty Dog but lost that one before we saw it. The last fish of the day came on a braid Mag dipsey set on 3 out 250. That was a 10 lb Coho and hit a Chrome/Kevorkian SD and a Purple/Glow fly (don't know the name or brand). We called it a day at just before 11 with the waves building from the East wind. Overall, we were 9 for 14 or 15, and it was the best day either of us have ever had. There were 3 Coho and 6 King. SOG was 2.6 mph. Best water was 100-140. Good luck out there.
  21. Great job Jimmy. I especially like your last comment as I was going to make the same
  22. I've hear of pike eating baby ducks but never a steelhead eating a bird. A few weeks ago I caught a lake trout and the air bladder was bloated. When I cut it open out popped a half digested alwife with a bloated air bladder.
  23. I will second that, though most of the people I have on my boat had country and then wonder why we don't catch as many fish Since you posted Matt I was reading this in the paper today, it made me think of some of your comments and posts. Article The only time I've ever been on a charter (for my 12th birthday), the Captain told me I should look into getting a job mating on a boat. I blew it off at the time but regret it. I would love to charter my own boat some day and this article just gave me a little more of a drive to do it. Sounds like you had a great summer and a great job on top of it
