  1. I spoke with a rep from lowrance and he told me that the fish and chip would be the one to get . There is also some new stuff coming out with navionics. But he wasn,t sure who's maps they were going to be yet.

  2. I want to know if I run a 200 ft copper on one side, a 300 ft copper on the other side, and a full core out the back, will this end up being a total nightmare? If the water is calm I plan on running the boards out a good distance. I have never attempted this, but before I do, just looking to see if I'm crazy or not. If this is a bad idea, how should I run these rods?

I would run the 200 copper on one side and the 300 copper and the full core on the other , keep the shoot open for fish

  3. i usually run a board of each side with 10 and 15 color on the port side and a 12 color and 300 copper on the starboard side with a 20 color down the chute. i dont usually have tangles and have no problems netting fish. i just move the 20 color to the opposite side of where the fish is coming in.

why not run 45 lb coppers and save the guns for lifting weights :eek:

  4. If my memory serves me correct you tie a double willis knot when using braid, or like copper some guys use a real small swivel.

The trick to the willis knot is when you push back the outer braid and remove the lead don't pull on the braid to make it tight before you put the mono inside of it. leave it loose it makes all the difference. once you have the mono in the braid cinch the knot down tight. As long as I do it that way I can tie it without my glasses, otherwise forget it, you will have a hard time getting the mono to bottom out on the lead.

  5. There used to be a product that you could buy at the State Fair for your glasses they would put it on and you glasses would not fog up . Other than that you would have to warm up the glass somehow so that the fog would not form. 12 volt hair dryer?

I have the same problem on the way back in at dusk , and have to drive with my head above the windshield.

I have tried another product that works the same as RainX but all it did was bead off if I was going more than 25 mph .you could try this product.

what is the woof part mean??? If you dont mind me asking.[/quote']

The Woof part is actually my last name (Wolfe) A play on words.

A wolf in fish , or wolf eating fish .

  7. Guys thank you for all the input and suggestions. Really changes my perspective on dive bombs. I really think that when summer hits the dive bombs are really going to get some play on my boat.

I have four I carry on my boat , I have used them just not taken any fish with them. You can bet that if the bite goes deep again this year I will have them out .

  8. I have 2 aspiring artists here but I had asked a year ago and it never did get done, I found a company that I bought some art work before do it and they were very reasonable.

I could do it my self but I am thinking about having it done on clear vinyl and I will do the lettering . I am also having it screen printed for t-shirts and we will do the embroidery in house.

The whole process is kind of a test to see how well it all comes out . If it works out we will be offering it to others.

It was an adventure getting the art work company to understand with out talking on the phone. But once they had all the info it happened real quick.

  9. Had some art work done to match the name I have picked out for my boat and I am looking for a little feed back .

Do you like it ? funny?

    What do you think?

I know that The colors didn't' come over correctly though.

I think it was the compression on the file.

  10. Well Kevin you picked the worse weekend in the last 6 weeks to fish the harbor . Glad you found fish, they will be there until sometime in may. I have head of some big ones caught lately too. Just have to be there at the right time. Jason won't start posting until sometime in April. Just finished his classes on Salmon fishing. Reel nice guy.

As for lake link sometime u have to read between the lines , Eric ,Jason and Grey beard tell it how it is. The others well? we have no Idea.

If you need any Information on fishing the harbor or other areas in Milwaukee give me a shout and I will help you out where I can.

    Jim

On a side note I pick the worst weekend to get my boat out of storage again, a blizzard once again, but its home waiting for the water now.

  11. Has anyone used the Okuma Classic Pro Glt Copper/Leadcore for a wire diver rod? I was thinking of putting an Aftco swivel tip on one and trying it? Has anyone tried this with any success?

I have not tried but if these are the copper rods and not the GLT Salmon rods you could do it but I wouldn't , I think the tips are too stiff for putting wire on these.

I am looking to replace the wire rods I have when I have the money . I have the blue diamond roller rods and its too easy for the wire to miss the rollers . Are you just trying to save cash ? If you do it let me know how it works out.

  12. 32 do's not run at the same sink rate as lead core, for instence, 10 colors or lead core runs on average of 40 ft, this is a length of 300 ft, to acheive the same 40 ft in depth with 32 lb copper you need to run 200 ft of line.

And to get that in 45 lb copper you only need 150.ft of line out.

So in my opinion why would you want to run 45 lb copper that is a little less forgiveing to save 50 ft on of cranking, and take the greater risk of haveing a issue.

I have 12 rods on the DOG all spooled with 32 and love it for the ease.

    Just my 2 cents.

Thanks , here is the dive curve from Bloodrun on there copper.

32# Super Copper (.030 in diameter)

After checking out the dive curves means I am right where I want to be.

its a couple years old but a good read on copper.

fishing nearly all copper last year, 32lb in place of leadcore and 45lb in 300-450 segments, I can not remember a single instance where my setups were out fished by someone else purely because I did not have leadcore out. I am more convinced that 32lb copper will be closer in the water column to 45lb copper than to leadcore. When others full cores were firing, my 200 and 250 were firing.

in my experimenting, i also ran a while last season with a 250 32lb running inside, same side as a 10 color with no issues. That right there makes me certain the 32lb does actually run deeper than leadcore.

Thanks Josh , a very well written article . Makes more scene to me now, and I should be fine with the Bloodrun 32lb copper I bought off your site.

  14. Ok guys for you that use copper , 30 lb or 45 lb and why.

I bought 1000 ft of 32 lb copper and I hear that I should have bought 45 lb . and I am curious what works for you and why . Should I abandon the 32 lb for 45lb ? Is there a big difference?

  15. :thumb:Nice set up!

Got a question on your rig. I built something similar. Where did you get the tapered parts to to into the spools.

I turned them on one of my lathes. being that all the spools are different it was the only way . I had looked at Ace hardware and other places and I couldn't find any cone washers.

The unit on my saw table is just the prototype , the counter is just loose right now. I cut a shallow grove in the counter on the lathe also so I didn't have to put sides on the the counter wheel .

The reel in the photo holds 1000 feet of line , less than what is listed on the reel but more that enough for a rigger rod.

The spool for despooling mono I also made on the lathe . it would be lower left in the photo. I have to make that bigger , it only takes 2 full reels to fill it up.

It does work great for putting new line (backing ) on leadcore rods.

  16. I have made a real line counter for filling reels and can't be leave how off the reels are. The counters measures 1 foot for every 1 foot of line that goes on. With that being said so far 2 reels have not lived up to there rated capacity. This creates a big problem when trying to fill the reels to there capacity and getting it right. The last one I filled was 20 lb big game which is .018 and should be according to the reel 420yds 1260 feet. I had to cram 1000 feet on this reel. Are the numbers on the reels just estimates?

I will be posting more pictures when I am done as the reel station is still a prototype and having changes done to it .

I would really dislike having to fill reels backwards just to find out the real capacity ,then having to transfer the line to the other reel . But it would only have to be this way once for each type of reel I have.

  17. I dont run 30# copper but I do run 300' of 45# copper, and I run 4 riggers, 4 dipseys and 6 long line presentations. I use Church Walleye boards they do just fine with copper and cores. I like to run the Copper inside then a fullcore setup, and on the outside a 5 to 7 color for Steelhead, This works well during the Summer, but in the spring I run more shallow presentations and up to 8 boards 4 dipseys and 4 downriggers. You always should run your presentations in a V deep in the center and shallower as you go out away from the boat. As to tangles with Copper and Core hmmmm why are you turning sharp enough to cross them? Keep your turns wide and dont let your boards get behind your boat. No tangles.

If you are worried about having tangles , spread out your spread horizontally and Like Mike Said don't turn that sharp. I ran 325 30lb copper last year on the inside of 8 color , never came close to tangling. Also make sure the rods your are running are the same type . Other wise the will make the boards run differently.
