  1. I have all the charts for the great lakes available, on my Ipad. Using a program called charts. My I pad has the internal gps . so as far as that goes it should work great, I will find out for sure when I can get on the water in the spring. The charts that are used are the same raster charts that you can download for free.

After looking on the web site for navionics I my get that one too.

  2. hey how it going Russ, how did you guys finish this year, haven't seen a post from you in a while. I guessing you were out hunting?

Last time we were out I think was the 3 week in October. Threatened a couple of times but the boat went to rest last weekend till next year.

  3. While researching the Okuma brand, I noted they offer rods designated for use with copper in both the Classic Pro and Convector lines:

    Classic Pro - 1 Year Warranty - 8'6" - Less Expensive

Convector - Lifetime Warranty - 8' or 9' - Over twice the cost of the Classic Pro - heavy duty guides

I'm not sure if you can read anything into Okuma's difference in the length of warranty between the two lines, but it's good info to know for those considering a purchase.

    Mark

Mark more than 50% of my rods are Okuma and are the pro line, and I couldn't be happier. the rods that have broken have been my own fault. with the exception of 1 which was replaced under warranty . if you fish every day or are a guide I would spend the extra money . If not

Save the extra money and buy good reels. Just my opinion.

  4. Yes the triangular handles help keep the rods from twisting . Another thing that helps is to put your side of your arm against the reel for those that don't have this type of grip.

I also have a set of the GLT Salmon rods in 8' 6" . These are nice too. Have the same grip. I think they need just a little more back bone though.

  5. clinchers should be reusable

you just have to push it apart with a screw driver

this is a cannon set up we have to leave some bare cable to make the auto stops work

with the big jon we leep the cable coverd and the tail out of the clichers gets a bullet splice to the probe to make it easily removable

are you using SS wire connectors ? I am using something similar for the probe ,it doesn't connect to the eye on the probe it relies on the weight on the cable to make its connection. How deep will the probe give you the temp and speed done this way?

  6. Well when I was putting the boat away for the season I ran into another problem and I have to fix the cable behind the unit with the readout. It seams that after 2 seasons the plugs have come apart on both ends. I wish when we pay high dollar for equipment that it would last a good long time and not come apart.

At least it was at the end of the season not the start.. I will most likely make the same antenna set up as you posted. With another cable and keep the other antenna on my manual unit. Only bummer is that I have to replace the clincher on the end of the cable.

  7. I heard that you can upgrade the drags on the CV55's so they are as fast as Clarions. The tekotas are too out of the price range I want to spend on reels. I got a deal last year and got 12 convectors for $60 each. Took a dent out of the fishing account but hey the cheapest part of salmon fishing is buying the boat!

You can say that again , I wonder how much I have in gear, including rods , reels, spoons , flashers flies, riggers, probes, cannon ball, locators, and don't forget self inflating life jackets. Nets , rod holders, rod trees, planer boards .Seams like every time I go to the store its another 100.00 .

  8. One of the last times I was out this year I really thought about putting out a couple of extra rods, whos going to know right? well when I talked to another guy that was fishing near me in 250 fow , he had a visitor. the Wisconsin Dnr. Guess I will keep following the law. You never know who will show up or who is watching you.

  9. yes, I would when you get a pic! thanks!

Here are those pictures, If you look in the pictures you will see the upper grip is triangular in shape . This really helps keep a good hold of the rod.
