  1. I think I might be in the minority of Charters who agree with the cuts. However they also should raise the limit to five again in Michigan waters. And they should plant more Steelhead. There is an article in the Great Lakes Sport Fishing News written by DNR staff which smells fishy to me. They make a lot of excuses for not upping the stocking of other species, but seem to dance their way around the justifications. Nowhere do they justify not increasing steelhead stocks, only coho and trout. (Unless I am missing something). I am also just a tad skeptical about how long it will take and how many dollars will have to be squeezed from the taxpayer to reinitiate prior stocking levels should the lakes see a turnaround in the forage base. And what steps are being taken to raise the levels of forage other than lowering the Salmon stocks? All of the answers need to be addressed by the DNR and other agencies involved. Am I alone here? It appears by the letter written by Pres. Rick Balabon in the same publication that the MSSFA are asking those questions too but don't seem to be expecting too many answers in the near future.
  2. Righto Stevo! I run snap weights on core quite often. Especially if I am getting bit on 15 colors. Since I only have 2 rods set up with 15 color, I just add weight to a couple 10's or 12.5's. I was running 2.5 lead core for shallow biters but now I just run the snap weights there too. Saves on having too many rods kickin around.
  3. What's you favorite meat rig set-up? I have many, but I guess my favorite has to be the stealth set up I use on a rigger. I run a line with just the head and meat, no twinkies or flasher, on a center rigger, about 20 lower and 20 feet behind a flasher fly set-up that is on an outdown. It doesn't catch alot, but it gets some big hogs.
  4. What gets me are those who just throw their butts in the water like it isn't littering. I supply ash trays for smokers on my charters for just that reason. Or how bout folks who throw burning butt's out their car window like it won't cause a grass fire! DuRRR DuRRR DRRRRRRR!!!!
  5. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....morels......i ..can't....wait....mmmmmmmmmmmmm
  6. And fishin for work aint bad neither! It was good to finally meet you and to see Mark again. I'm glad you caught yer supper! Maybe I'll get 'ol Sporty in the lake before the coho are all gone for the year.
  7. No. Not unless the price reflected it. Salt water is hard on boats.
  8. That would be way too kewl! See if they give away free samples at the end of the tour!
  9. I have a 32' with twin 350 Chevys. I ran about 120 total outings with an average usage of 50 or so gallons per......
  10. I just run a line with 50 lb. fireline or wire through the pack, harvest all the Sampo's, and then throw back the lures! I gotta make ends meet somehow!
  11. Thanks for the report Rick. I may be dropping Sporty in for a shakedown this week if all goes well. I could dig some fresh fillets on the barbie for supper!
  12. the daiwa 27lc's are sold. Those depth master combos are a bargain. Get em while their hot! Did I say hot? Oops, no really, I own em for real!
  13. For sale: 2 - Daiwa SG27LC's - $65 each 2 - Cabela's Depthmaster II Dipsey combo's - $35 each .......both have been sitting in my garage for quite a while and have seen very little use, they are just like new, with a little dust on 'em. Shoot me a PM or an e-mail.
  14. Man I been on lots of em. They stink! I don't ever want to go again! Oops...did I say that out loud? heh heh
  15. Oops, my bad Jim. I knew that. They just add into the 5 in combination mix. Sorry. as far as Chinook limits, I believe that they should raise it to 5 as that would be in line with the surrounding States and would help reduce the numbers. If the statistics provided by the DNR concerning natural reproduction are factual, it wouldn't hurt the resource. I never just try to punch my ticket with customers, so it won't hurt me there. But it is a good point to ponder.
  16. I'm with you on this Sixshooter. I just want to know what of our many species have a five fish limit now? 1.Walleye 2. Northern Pike 3. Smallmouth Bass 4. Largemouth Bass Well......hmmmmmmmmmm.....yep that's it. Seems a little funny to me that the higher limits are placed on non-renewable species that's numbers can easily be eradicated from most bodies of water if overharvested. The only one with an agressive stocking program is walleye, and then only in certain waters. And it also seems a little premature to set these new reg's in stone for 3 seasons shortly after implementing new stocking levels on salmonoids as well as the forage base issues without seeing what happens to the fishery first. Perhaps they used the DNR crystal ball to see the future? Oops. Can't be, unless they saw the mess we are now in and just let it happen anyhow.
  17. Welcome to the site! Although we mainly discuss trout and salmon fishing here, I imagine you will find someone who wants to do battle with some stripers here.
  18. Can you say smash em up derby? Sometimes you just gotta wonder where your tax dollars are going. They probably spent enough money with committees and meetings on the subject to keep them running a while longer.....
  19. Gee, I think that's what I said. You can ask your buds to cover ALL the lodging, food, and gas. But as far as just asking for cash online and such, again I would just discuss it in private to avoid the hassle. "DNR-------- Response (Jaqueline Waber) - 03/15/2006 11:00 AM........ ....People will always find creative ways to operate illegal fishing charters, so I would recommend caution when asking for monetary help when fishing." I mean if a DNR wanted to write you up, it's kinda like arguing a ticket with the cop. You still gotta end up beating it in court and that aint cheap! I mean unless you like hassles!
  20. Don't fret. It is legal for your fishing buddies to pitch in for gas. The law is quite vague and has to be interpreted by the officer in charge at the time. Basically it states that you may take money only for actual expenses for fuel, food, bait which you spent. Asking for a set price, donation, tip, etc. may be construed as chartering. I would suggest however to not advertise that you want money from guests, just discuss it privately to avoid the hassle. (Plus even if the judge lets a person off, it could get quite expensive!)
  21. I am planning on attending. I'll see what my schedule for Sunday is.
  22. Well I can't put Sportboat in till I'm sure we won't have another big freeze. If anyone needs a rider, just give me a holler. Course I may pull out Manofish Destiny for a Detroit River excursion pretty soon. I could really stand to munch on some fresh wallys.
  23. Dave, I can get the lead to you sometime in the next two weeks if you want. I think I have about 200 lbs.+ to spare. I alredy have about 100 1 lb. weights. I just need a some two lb. and 1/2 lber's. What kind of rod do you use for the 2 lbrs? Must be telephone poles! Sorry I didn't make it to the show in Birch Run and see you fellers but I had some bitniss to attend to.
