  2. Man, to think I was stck in the office all day! Way to go thanks for sharing!
  3. They are serious about not fishing out in front of the power plants.. Thanks for the report...
  4. Ok, I Yell, Jump and knock people out of the way. But I'll raise the antie... I have yelled fish-on at the boat beside us.. We were in the troling line out in front of the Michigan City breakwater, and a boat coming back up the other side had a rod bump bump bumping, and nobody was paying attention we saw it and started yelling and pointing at their rod.. I think they lost the fish:lol:
  5. Thanks guys, I'm spooled up and gettinge anxious to hit the water...
  6. Ok, so I got a deal on some Cajun 65lb braid and I want to use it for my backer. I am assuming I use the same knots I did for my lead core? Should I use a small heat shrink tube to cover the joint? Or would the heat weaken the backer? Supposed to be 40 & sunny here on Friday... might have to put the freeze plugs back in..
  7. Ahh the dream fishing trip... It's a reoccurring dream I have starting in January.... Thanks for sharing, Hi I'm JC I'm a fish-aholic...
  8. Aaron, Thanks again, I will wind up 75 ft on the 30d. Once I learn how to use it I might add the 45 or 55d. Getting anxious to try this out. JC by the way, this site rocks! Thanks GLF..
  9. Well I did it. Cabin Fever must have set in and I went out today and got the wire rod, and an Okuma 30D Convector. Had to have the copper shipped to me each place I stoped was out. Gonna go ahead and spool up my backer, and leave enough room for 100' of copper. (if that will fit??) What are you running on your wire rigs? Spoons? Dodger & Fly, dipseys? I stopped at 4 different tackle places today from Berrien Springs to Benton Harbor, to Edwardsburg, got a different best lure to use on this setup is.... at each place. I would assume that the dodger/fly would keep a steady tension on the wire & help prevent tangles, but I'm going to you experts school me before I pull the cover off in April.
  10. I had a Penn Fathom Master that the tip eye broke with a fish out 100yards behind the boat. It was about the 3rd time we had used it, I emailed and called Penn, they sent me a new top half no problem at all. The fish was harder to land than getting the rod replaced.
  11. I would love to line catch one, but I would take pictures and send it home. They are awesome creatures.
  12. Ken, Those were some awesome fish... Hope we can get into them. I'll search on Ludington, for reports from about when we're planning on being there. Hopefully I'll be able to post up some nice pix...
  13. Well looks like we've finally decided on Ludington for our vacation spot this year. We should be there in Late July. We're going to be staying at the Cedar Ridge cabins. I have a couple of questions, hopefully some members from that area can answer. 1. Our cabin's set on the South East corner of Pierre Marquette Lake. and there is a lauch next door to the campgrounds, is this launch big enough for a 24ft Crestliner Sabre? (Is the lake deep enough) Or should I use the city dock? 2. Does this lake connect to Lake Michigan? (I assume by looking at the maps it does.) 3. Is there any fishing left in Ludington in Late july? I'm sure I'll have more as the time gets closer, but that's about it for now. Thanks.. JC
  14. I have a question that I didn't see anywhere, so I'll ask it here (If it belongs somewhere else admin / Mods please move) Last summer I was boarded and inspected by the C.G. no problems there. But when asked if I had any weapons on board I said other than knives "NO". Then wehn I showed my flare fit which is a 12 ga flare gun, they told me that Michigan DNR regards these as a weapon and I probably should declare them as such? I suppose I will from now on, but have you all ever heard that? For the record I was just inside Indiana waters.
  15. Dean Thats a great Idea, I have fought with my slide divers trying to get them set one handed and usually it was with 2 people... I'm gonna try this.. Thanks! JC
  16. It would never work, my wife would be on to me the minute I backed up to the boat...
  17. So I'm setting here reading these posts, and thinking about getting out on the big water, and it's driving me crazy... I'm already thinking Michigan City, hopefully mid to late March.. Who else is getting the itch to get out?
  18. In the words of Billy Idol... more, more, more... There's still penty of room in the barn.
  19. I run 4 across and so far it has not been an issue. It did get a bit hairy when we pulled a double a couple of times, but nothing that cost us fish.
  20. Rip Capt Phil. Condolences to his family and all hands of the Cornelia Marie.
  21. This is an interestion subject that I have never considered, but this is my first aluminum big water boat I'd better check and see what I'm putting on the downrigger cables. One question I do have is, would this be kind of like Cabelas Black Box?
