  1. That black and green ladderback second from the left is one of our go to lures for when its combat fishing time. Every year it seems to put fish in the boat. Unfortunately you have to reshape the lure after every fish. I wouldn't mind having one or two more.
  2. I first thought of this when I watching the videos off of this site. In one of the episodes they were on a few boats during a tournament. At one point the captain was yelling at the guy reeling in the fish to keep his rod tip down. I think this would be a good idea for a few reasons. One: If your rod tip is up and your rod is heavily flexed it is less forgiving to a fish that turns and runs. If a fish turns and runs when you have your rod tip down the fish should be able to freely pull line through the drag without the resistance of the line going through the eyes. Two: If you have a fish take a run at the boat and you rod is down you will be able to bring your rod tip up and take up slack in the line faster than if your rod tip was up to begin with. This is just my non-expert opinion.
  3. Any chance you are going to be in central WI any time soon? If I get down there in the near future I will let you know.
  4. Thanks for all you input so far. Twisting is one of the concerns I had about these holders. As far as Berts or Traxtech goes I'm not sure how that would work in my situation. Here are a few pics of my boat, if anyone has any ideas I am open for suggestions. The old rail mount holders that are on here are very sturdy, the previous owner used to run divers off of them without a problem. Unfortunately I only have two of the holder tubes. If anyone knows where to get these let me know.
  5. I was looking at adding some rod holders on our new ride for next season and I was wondering what you guys thought about the Dubro swivel mount rod holders seen here. I would be using them to run boards off of. Do you think these holders are a quality durable product? If you would go a different rout what would it be?
  6. Is a "cheater" the same as a fixed slider? How tight of a lead do you use?
  7. I live in Wausau WI which is about in the center of the state and I primarily fish out of Sturgeon Bay.
  8. Mike - Have you ever thought of adding the moon phases and rise and set times to the calendar on the home page? Maybe something like this. pic was taken off of this site. I started to watch the moon phases a little more this year and I think this could be a helpful addition to the site.
  9. Where in your spread have you been using them, riggers, divers, copper, etc... Do they work better down deep, or doesn't it matter.
  10. If it means keeping them out of the Lakes I'll eat a carp
  11. Sacrifices have to be made, the Great Lakes are too important.
  12. What do you guys think about the UV flashers? Have you noticed any situations where they produced better than your standard or glow flashers? I know they are supposed to light up better than the standard flashers when running them deep. Do you think they work better than glow flashers during daylight hours when run deep or on overcast days? With as well as the glow products catch fish I can't imagine the UV products out fishing them on a regular basis. To me the UV products seem like a product to catch fishermen than anything else, but I could be wrong.
  13. Those guys are out of Sturgeon Bay. They now have a shiny new 09 model, but they downsized to a 54. Must have been trying to save on fuel LOL. It defiantly is a beautiful rig though.
  14. You could also use rod holder track systems like Berts or Traxtech to run your boards off of. I think these would work well with how your boat is set up. Here is an example. You can also run sliders or stackers off your rigger rods to get a few more lines in the water. Personally I would prefer to run more lead or copper.
  15. Nice job jay! You guys have been on the fish all year, I always look forward to reading your reports.
  16. The tubing I am using is 1/4" OD tubing that you can find at any hardware store. There are also smaller sizes but I like the 1/4" because I can change out skirts without retying. Tony -- My best colors have been the transparent greens with a little glow mixed in. I have also made a bunch off different color schemes but really haven't given them much time in the water. Its hard for me to take the stock greens and blues out of the water.
  17. I just started making my own flies this last season. I know a bunch of you guys make your own flies, I was wondering what you like to do for materials. For me instead of buying the pre-cut skirts, I went out and found my own mylar sheets and sliced them into skirts. I did end up buying some glow skirt material from Howie's because I couldn't find anything in a sheet. The beads I purchased online off of the siggs site because my local bead store was a bit pricey. If anyone has a good site for glow beads let me know. By the end of the season I had learned that sometimes less is more as far as skirt material goes and I found that the thinner I cut each strip on the skirt the better they preformed. Overall I was pretty happy with how my flies preformed. Here are a few of my flies I have made. Sorry the colors are a little washed out, I need better lighting.
  18. Yep that's where my bookmark takes me.
  19. Jim - that sounds pretty close to how the OR 31s are set up, this is what they look like. I will definitely give that a try next year.
  20. I run the Offshore OR12s and have changed out stock rear clips for the red pinned ones. Jim - Did you move your rear snap to the same location that the OR31 have it? I was thinking about giving that a try next season to see if they run any better that way.
  21. I wouldn't mind seeing a walleye report section from Green Bay, That might also bring a few more people from this side of the pond onto the site. We could use a few more reports from over here.
  22. My wife loves taking pictures and her camera is always near by so we had a lot of pics to choose from, here are some of our favorites from the year. Enjoy!
  23. I would have loved to see the waves hitting the lighthouse that evening, that would have been pretty intense!!
