  1. Spring is coming... We all know this, but what do I fish for and when? What species bite in early spring and what water depth? I don't have a fish Finder and dont see myself getting one either, after all the fish in the finder aren't the one's biting the hook. We want to hit the water with the poles already in the water, but is this possible in early spring. We started in late August this year, just before the run, so it's hard to know when to fish early spring summer mid summer or fall orlate fall... Thnks Guys for beng so patient with me, God I can't wait for my Keating on Kings to get here.
  2. Mike you are good, I've thought about the Rails on the Arch, and they make some really good clamp on rod Holders... I'm looking into them as well. Isn't it fun spending someones elses money....I just can't wait to get to the boat so I can figure out where and when I can get more Rod Holders I'm thinking when I travel to Bog Jon's plant in Interlochen, I will get more ideas, I may look into a removable rod holder for the back hatch, it also has a rail on it that will hold a few Rods. Also I'm in touch with Captain Willis out of Grand Haven, Captain Chris out of Manistee, and Dan Keating, I think with you guys included I'm in Good hands when it comes to catching the Salmon...... You guys are the greatest Please please keep showing me ways for me to spend my money..... it's greatly appreciated. Robert
  3. Our set up is as I mentioned in a few other post I have 4 rods all set up with mono, just got the riggers with multiple rod holders attached, so I was going to run the riggers off the sides, since we are operating on a cruiser witha large swim platform, and off the back I'm going to run the dipsey's. Once again I was going to use the Mono that's already on the rods. Yes I want to run a presentation of different spoons flies/flashers and plugs, until this year I've ran two dipseys' using two spoons, man was I running a boring presentation....Running 6 lines maybe out of the question, I really do not want to install more rod holders, you see the wife still want to keep the cruiser look, spent way too much money on the cruiser to make it look like a fishing boat you know? Once we're on the water this year, I'll look into ways to install more poles for 6 lines, in fact once we start catching fish, I could see my wife telling me to get mre lines into the water, but until then it's going to have to happen on 4 lines, which is double the lines I had in the water. And I'm Happy with that...........For Now... Do you guys realise I dream of catching the big one's that you have pictures of holding up.... Just one. Cause I've already been out on a Charter boat, THUNDERDUCK out of Grand Haven Michigan. Oh bye the way we fish out of Ludington, Grand haven, Elk Rapids ( Grand Traverse bay) Grand Traverse Bay is tough to fish out of.... but we're learning, and North Port, they have Salmon Tournaments so there's Salmon up there. Now that we have riggers we can get to the deeper Kings... out there. When giving me advice that I listen to so intently, remember I have a cruiser, and the port side rigger I have to climb onto a seat to get to, so it's not going to me easy for me to control well, but I'll get used to it Right?.. I think so, oh Mike I bought the book Keating on Kings and bought both Videos from Dan as well I can't wait for them to get here. Looking forward to everyones advice, and trust me I'll take every piece of advice I can get.
  4. Thanks to all that Chimmed in, and gave me their notes on Lead Core, that being said I think I will get a little experience under myy belt before I go to lead core. Maybe I'll stay with my mono lines for a year or so, then when I get brave and more knowledge in my head, I'll add a few Lead core poles.... Well what do you guys think about that???? I need to get used to my riggers first and then take the leap...
  5. Was that on Lead Core.....???? He HE HE
  6. Reading directly about the questions you ask is much more exciting when it's on the actual post, then to search for it in a search program, thanks Mike you are greatly appreciated...
  7. Ok first of all I'm a beginner, YOU all know that, Second Mike told me to ask this question because you guys WOULDN"T think of me as an Idoit, as I feel when asking these questions. But here goes... WHats the big deal with Lead Core lines.....I don't get it, what happened to good ole fishing line? Is there an advantage over Mono, where can Lead Core not be used? Where should it be used? When should you use Lead Core and is it Braided, and why is it Braided? So many questions.......So Much time until we can get the boats WET!!!! SIgned...."Need to Know" Boltman Robert
  8. Wow I'm feeling like I want to go get the boat out of storage, get it into the water and get one of these riggers good and wet, it's a sickness.
  9. Thanks for everyone's help with these Riggers, I found new in the box riggers from Chris@ Net Minder Fishing Charters, out of Manistee Mi. He's a great guy and has another pair of these riggers left to sell (Big Jon Captains packs). Let me know if your interested in buying them and I'll give you his number. Robert
  10. So is it better to buy the weights that are more aerodynamic, say the fish like looking ones? Or stick to the round balls as I have seen in the shops? And thanks fo the name of the book I will be sure to read that, hell anything helps.
  11. Yes she does have a sister, she goes fishing with her husband too, but reads, Mine Drives the boat....Now I know you guys are Jealous...I will have them mounted inthe engine compartment away from the engines, we have a 320 Sea Ray and it has a mssive engine room. All the rods are mounted to the underside of the Engine Hatch,it's a great way to get them all together. We spend a lot of time on the water together also, it's great we make the coffee, and head out early in the Morning, ah man it's great, having your wife next to you , on the boat, while fishing for Kings....even if you don't get a bite.......Ha Ha Ha. Life is Good........ So Mike what o you think about a 10 ball, We fish in Lake Michigan, where it can get deep will this go deep enough?????
  12. Wow, that is some great advice, thanks again so much. So here's my set, they will be on 12"gimble mounts removeable and stored in the engine compartment. I have only 1 rod holder hole on ech side of the boat, that's why I went with multiple rod holders on each Rigger.I also put them on Swival bases as well, all I need now is open water, some warm weather, and a little practice...No a lotta Practice is what I need. But I sure am Glad that I can count on you guys for some great advice, and help .The BOSS went and bought 140.00 doallrs woth of sons flies and flashers at the fishing show.... She's like a salmon when it comes to lures.......and she bites on the most expensive and shinny lures and flies there are, honestly I do not know what to do with her....... any advice on that one Guys.
  13. Well people I got my new Big Jons,I bought a pair of Captain packs because we really don't so a lot of fishing but would like to get out and do more. Is there anything I should know, like what not to do with them, ad what I can expect with them, ny tricks, Like how in the hel do you hook up the Big Jon Release with the rubber band.....Come on Big jon users let me know the do's and Don'ts. Also, what size and shape balls should I use, how heavy???? So many questions so much time... heh he he hehehehehh There's like 100 day's til fishing Day. Robert Chapman
  14. Don't know what time We're going though, I know it will be in the afternoon, I really don't want to get out of bed early this Saturday, I'm still draggin from so much time off this past two weeks, and I didin't even want the time off either, but with GM and all Auto related plants being down for the month of January, it's going to be really slow.
  15. We're going to hit the Ultimate Fishingshow next weekend, sounds like it's going to be a good show..
  16. Thanks Boom, I also have a 1 million power spot light, afraid I may light up the water too much though with that kind of power on a glow lure. I'm also going to turn on my underwater lights when fishing at night, they bring up the bait fish, might bring up the big game fish as well. I have them mounted on my trim tabs, they are the coolest at night, though only Halogens, they are very bright and shine out about 25 feet or so. I bought Mini LEd flashlights with 8 LEDS in them , very bright for charging up the Glows.
  17. Hey Guys, what are you flashing the Glows with? I don't understand since I'm just a beginner... Let me know.
  18. Hey let the wind stop and then fix the issues, it's really not worth dieing over is it, and besides if the wind blows off enough you get a new roof with insurance, I have a 150 year old farmhouse, and we could feel it shake the whole second story allnight long, wish I could say it was me and the wife, but Ah Hell no, it did keep us awake mst of the night though.....I'm waiting to lose the second story completely....... we have nothing but fields all around us, so the house and barns take all the abuse....
  19. Frank I can't do anything on my boat, it's in storage and well it's all locked up. But i have all that done at the dealership, it's a great way to keep everything under warranty too. This spring I will have her back in my driveway and I want to install a new fish finder and hopefull rig the boat for downriggers that are removable and stored in the engne compartment....So there are some small biulds Iwant to do this year.
  20. Great Dog Mike, and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Too you, thanks for all your hard work on this site, I know it's a hard thing to maintain as well.
  21. She went out to Gander mountain the other day, cause she wasn't sure if we had enough of the right Glow Spoons, she bought 5 new Super Glows.... God I'm a Lucky man
  22. Ok Well that answers my question, I'm going to stick with my Mono, until I'm at pro levels like you guys.....Your the greatest....Dudes//
  23. Hmm Chat on Wednesdays, I can do that, I'm normally sitting around the darn TV at that time, but I can't wait until I can't recieve the Analog signal anymore, it gives me a reason to Thorw out the TV and do something more exciting.... like Shovel the sidewalks,Plow the driveway, scoop up the dog poop from the new puppy that's under the swno now..., or sit and talk with you guys or My Wife...now there's a Hard decision.
  24. Maniac, you never mention why your using Braid or Wire? What the big difference?
  25. Sorry I have nothing to say about this, since my set up was two Dipseys on Mono, but I still cught fish.....they were my first two Kings, small but still Kings.
