  1. I can not give you an answer but i have another question touching the same topic.

I have always used mono when trolling dipsies, but for the first time i have been thinking of testing braid.

I think i will go for a bulk spool of 1500 or 3000yds power pro, but i have no idea what lb test i should use.

What do you all out there use when running Dipsies off braid line?

I have been thinking of 40 or 50lb test.

    /Kjellzen

With the bigger fish that you have the opportunity to catch, 40lb test might be a better recommendation?

  2. I have seen the line of new rods that are hitting the market this year. What i didn't realize is that they are discontinuing a couple of the old lines. I really love the large tip eye on the 7' lead core rods (MODEL CP-LC-70 CLASSIC PRO LEADCORE TROLLING SERIES). They, along with the Blue Diamond roller rods are being discontinued.:( Just thought I would give those that have found a rod that they are pleased with a heads-up. I'm working on getting my hands on both. Nothing wrong with new stuff, I just really like what I already have.

  3. Have any of you heard of Flintstone spoons?

I have a lot of those on hand along with some Dreamweavers.

What i am looking for is spoons that will work together with my NK spoons and my Silver Streaks. Someone mentioned that DW and NK have approx the same speed range, is it the same with Flintstones?

    /Kjell

Yes. NK and Flintstones are very similar. I think you can add Silver Streaks to that same class too.

  4. Randy, I am surprised that the braid doesn't cut into the innerflow rods. Other guys I have talked to have had problems with it.

I have two inter-flows rods from Cabalas. They have close to 10 years of use and no problems at all. I run Dacron on one and Fire-line on the other.

  5. Very interesting thread, i know i can google for it but, whats the cost of this wire? how often does it need to be replaced.

I think three of the reels came with wire and the other nine reels came with braided, maybe i shoul do a test trip with the braided and the wire.

the only prob is that my rods probably can´t handle the wire, i am using Daiwa interflow rods.

No need to replace the wire unless you have a broken strand or bad kink too far down. The cost is about $36 for 1000 feet. It would eat up you inter-flows. Best bet is to go with the Okuma Blue Diamond roller rods, or at least that is what I use. I run braided on my inter-flows with no problems.

  6. I just recieved some used Daiwa reels i bought in Ohio. These reels came with something that looks like thin downrigger wire, is this something you normally use? it didnt have changing colors like i read that the lead core has.

    Also something new to me.

Sounds like 7 strand 30lb test wire. It's a great way to get the Dipsy's deeper with less drag. Once you fight a fish with wire, you will never use mono again.

Here is a link with some wire info:http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12232&highlight=wire

  7. OK are we talking down speed or surface/GPS speed? I usually like to start around 2.5 mph GPS speed. Then I adjust from there. I don't have any loyalty to one brand of spoons. I think that Stingers run better than other spoons at slow speeds because they are so light. The Moonshine spoons seem to run better at higher speeds but they are very heavy. I also run a lot of Dreamweaver spoons. They seem to be very speed tolerant. I do have some Northern Kings and they seem to be speed tolerant like the Dreamweaver's. Very similar spoons in my opinion. I am also going to try running some of the Pro-Kings that have been sitting in my box this year. I was told that they are very good spoons but I never ran them because I have no confidence in them. Now that I know they work, maybe I will keep them in the water for a longer period.

:yes:Pretty much the same as Nick has said. Never ran many NK's until the 2007 WMFL event with the NK package. They did very well for us. Had to sharpen every hook though.

  8. I run #18 in the last hour of light from a Dipsey every trip!

If Mixed Veggie goes, #14 goes out.

#26 was one of my hottest spoons '06.

I run #23 on a 7 color at first light.

#20 has been good for me in late July.

    #12 & #13 can be good too.

    I have some fishing buddy's that swear by #1 & #30, but I can't buy a fish with them.

I know close to half the spoons in my box have never seen the water. I thought I would stop buying more once the box was full, but it has slowed me down.

  9. Went to a small and shallow lake last night. I didn't have any expectations for the evening. I caught 2 gills out of the first hole. Drilled a second hole where I caught 2 more gills before catching a Spec on the drop. Raised my jig up to 5-6 feet and continued to catch more and released all of the gills. I only wish I had more day light. At 5:45 they shut right off. After a half an hour of fishing I kept 10 nice Specs ranging from 9-11 inches.

Went back out again tonight. Spent to much time trying to find yesterdays spot. With the fresh snow, I couldn't find it. Managed 1 gill and lost 3 Specs at the hole. It was nice knowing that I was the only one fishing this lake for the past two days.

A green and yellow glow with gold flake back, tipped with wax worms is what worked for me.
