Copper Line Revisited

I am in need of some basic advise from the anglers who follow the posts on the Great Lakes Fisherman web site.

In terms of some of the basics involved, your input here would be very appreciative.

1. Howie's vs. Opti Tackle copper line, is there any difference in the quality, or how it is manufactured per the particular company.

2. Mono length between backing and the copper, because I intend to splice in a certain length of mono to the braid for the board.

3. same as no. 2 but for the lure end

Copper is Copper IMO. If you need to buy copper, than buy the supper (coated) copper. I've got a 6' pc of 40 pound mono on my Copper rigs to attach the boards to.

I agree. Copper is copper.

There are many retailers but very few actual manufacturers.

I too hear that the super copper is the way to go, but have not tried it yet.

I slid a heat shrink segment on the copper and then fed it through the eye of a SPRO #10 swivel and did eight twists on the copper and sealed it with the shrink wrap. Fishing fool knot on the monofilament or fluorocarbon side of the eye. This keeps twists out of the copper main line no matter whether you run a clean spoon to a flasher fly or meat rig as terminal tackle. I used a Uni to Uni for the backing to mono. segment and a Uni to copper twist with the heat shrink tubing on the copper again. I am on my third year with this set-up. I would keep your leader lenght down to around fifteen to twenty feet. Hope this helps.
