  1. Sorry for the late report but the home computer decided to go boom last friday. Fished 90 to 180 with 160 to 175 being best about half way between Holland and Port Sheldon. Finished the day 13 for 17 with 7 kings, a coho, 4 lakers and 1 steelie. Most productive spoon was a pink panties (ran 2) down 80' foot taking 4 fish and a full core taking 2. All the Lakers where taken on a Problem Child Big Weenie fly fished from 155 to 175 down on the riggers. This fly rocks as I probably took 4 lakers all of last year lol.
  2. The forecast they used for Saturday's decision was incorrect. Thay made the right call on Saturday witht the predicted 25 to 35 knot winds. Sunday was wrong again as they called for winds to diminish. Still, they shouldn't have fished. Use a delay or cancel the tourney all together. Yes people would be mad but it better to deal with that than the bad press of a sunken tourney boat.
  3. I've got a couple old manuals you can use Bill. Course they only have 200' of cable on them so your only going to be able to fish the top 20' of the water column....Have a safe and fun trip. Tell them boys thanks for all they do.
  4. Hey Bill, when do you leave to meet your son? Mike
  5. IMHO if you catch it you decide. The mortality rate of Salmon caught in the lake I believe is astronomical when released. I know little to nothing about walleyes though. How do they fare when released?
  6. Take 31 south to Port Sheldon Rd (traffic signal). Turn right. Take Port Sheldon to Butternut Dr (about 3 or 4 miles, I think it is the first and only stop sign) and turn right again. Butternut Drive will take you right to the launch on the left hand side of the road just after you go over the bridge by pigeon lake (about 3 miles). You will go past Gold Coast Outfitters and a TOTAL gas station. If you hit the power plant you've gone too far. Probably a shorter way but I know this one will get you there if no one else chimes in. Hope the weather holds out for ya, Mike
  7. Capt. Craig. Call Gary at Bigweenie. He has a whole line of uv flies and meat rigs. They look killer.
  8. I picked up a few UV meat rigs to try out this year. Check out bigweeniebrand.com They've got some pretty sweet tapes in UV to put on flashers (pro-troll's and spinnies) and spoon cuts as well.
  9. I don't think the boat sank because of the nets...this time
  10. The boat is still in storage so I can't say for sure yet on any of that. I do remember that I did put some plywood backer underneath that though. If I remember right it had a weird angle under the gunnel though. Mybe another week and I'll get it out of storage so's I can tinker a bit. How close to the riggers is to close?
  11. Dough...Softball not Football...The roll should be the size of a softball. Sheesh. I swear this winter is fryin' my brain.
  12. I'm Mounting them on the sides. I plan on using them to run dipsies out of. Got a great deal from Capt. Gary's (Vinnie) on the Ram Rod holders at the show.
  13. Bill, I thought it was one of those combos. I bought three of them last year as well and I caught all of 1 fish with them (whiile prefishing for a tourney). Do you think the fact that I ran only 1 one, one time all summer, had anything to do with it? I'll have to try that one this year.
  14. Bill, You need to be a little carefull when Launching in Frankfort. Stay in the middle launches and watch the graph. You can't go directly from the launch to the Municiple. You need to go out and around to avoid the shallows (basically a big horseshoe). Mike
  15. That is a neat Spinnie. What fly is that Bill?
  16. Welcome to the site Bill. Yes, I get my daily fix of fishing questions of this site as well. Was great meeting you on Saturday. I'm lookin' forward to Caz's tourney but I think you'll be doing the Ludington torney then. If you do decide to do the Benzie Tourney let me know. I'll be prefishin the weekend before and the Thursday, Friday before as well.
  17. Just bought a new track system and was wondering the best way to put them on the boat. Got 2 12" pieces of track with three screw holes but I am wondering if that will hold or if I need to add a little to it. Maybe a glue of some sort?
  18. Make sure it is a roll and not a dart back and forth motion. In my opinion the roll should be the size of a football and go twice a second or maybe a little slower for kings and about once a second for lakers. Can't remember where I picked that up (somewhere on the net) but it works for me.
  19. I have only used whole herring. I think it is going to be hard to find pre-packaged strips this year as I have heard that rhys davis and Fish-On are both discontinuing the pre made strips. Sounds easy enough to make your own though. If you plan on using the whole herring make sure you get the Super Magnum bait heads.
  20. You can run any flasher you want to. I use the bigger flashers (john king's, Oki flashers etc) with three fly rigs and the smaller 10" ones or 8" flashers with 2 fly rigs. Mike
  21. is this it? http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/region_map.html
  22. The coated line might. Read the manual on how the short stop feature works (I was actaully playing with my new mag 20's last night). I think you might need bare cable period for it to work (don't quote me on that). this is my belief on how it works and I am not an expert by any means on this. It somehow sends a signal thru the cable that reflects off the boats anodes. When that signal is broken then the short stop feature kicks in. This is why you need to use the insulater swivel (the one with a plastic end) to attach to the rigger ball. I would call the cannon service center in muskegon and ask them to be sure. That number should be in the manual also.
  23. Voice activation.... Seriously, I think with the on off switch would be fine. It won't hurt us to move the cannon ball up or down 1' to see. I don't know about anyone else but I typically remember where I put my riggers at. Great Idea for the light nop matter what you decide though.
  24. hmmm....Why would you add an under 24'? I guess I'd need to see their reason for this but i think it is kind of redundant. I fish out of a 21' Chris Craft and I don't see how someone in a 25'er would have an advantage over me and need to fish in a different class than me. If it is too rough for a 21'er to fish they won't call the other 2 classes. I believe they called the Amatuer side a couple years ago in one of the other tourney's and let the pro's fish and decided never to call it partial again because of the liability. Curious decision. Although I know some people feel they're at a disadvantage in smaller boats ( must be 18' minimum) but that is taken care of by the rod limit per boat. It will be intertesting to see how it works.
