I'll be fishing the Benzie Frenzy and I'll be observing in the Grand Haven Offshore on the Ternament Trail events. Love to do more but I think the old lady would shoot me.

I have had issues with less than 3 ft of water. I say 3.5ft to be sure. I went out of Manistee and stayed at the campgound up there one year where they said I was fine up to 3 ft and I had a little problem getting through. It's a 1985 21' Chris Craft. NO chips with depths. I had been using a handheld gps for several years but finally got a hummingbird 767 combo this year.

The first time I can remember fishing was off Grand Haven pier with my Grandma and her sister. All I can say is I brought up my first double on perch I was hooked (pun intended). First time on the big lake I was five and I went out with my Grandpa and his brother-in-law. I have a photo of me holding a laker from that trip proudly displayed in my house. Kind of stinks because I believe I have taken my grandpa out for the last time as his knees and back just can't take the lake anymore.

I have never launched a boat out of Muskegon. Don't know anyone who has either. 5 in the a.m. is not always the best time to try something new with the boat lol.

I've never fished out of muskegon. Can you launch a boat that drafts 3.5 ft of water out of Fishermans landing or is it kind of shallow like Port Sheldon?

Has anyone used these with success? What setting worked for you if you did. Thanks, Mike

Actually for me spoons out perform J-plugs that is unless I am further north(Frankfort) where last fall I had a trip where I ran a 6 rod spread that had only one flasher and 5 plugs. I fish predominately out of Holland most of the summer and for some reason I cannot get a plug program to work for me there. Anyone have any suggestions on that?

Made the mistake of not fishing the river this year so now having 2 months off has me itchin to get the boat out and troll. I found myself sitting here trying to put out a spread of 9 rods. Here's what I came up with. Setting is mid-August early morning and partly cloudy. 1-full core pulling a Super Slim Bloody Death Spoon 1-half core with a Steelie Stomper 4-Downriggers 1. Meat rig (Black Mamba with a red 3 fly rig) 2. 11" prochip with Oceana fly 3. Moonshine Blue Flounder early then a Super Slim Lemon Ice after sun up 4. Moonshine Double Trouble early then a Weird spoon of sort after sun up. 2-Braided Dipsies One with a Blue glow Spinnie and a Blue Dolphin fly and the other with a White/Pearl Spinnie with a Pickled Sunshine fly 1- Copper rig with a Mag Fuzzy Bear Modified Blue Dolphin Okay, Beat me up...what would you have done different...besides actually catch fish....

Click on the specials link. I believe they have factory seconds that are cheaper and have only minor visual defects. No structural problems, meaning they run the same just not as purdy. But for that kind of money go to cabelas website and buy 2 complete sets (2 right and 2 left) in-lines.

I will do that. Always nice to have some clue as to where to start.

If you decide to use the mast instead of the inline boards you will have to use a little stiffer release as the core will pull harder than just a normal hot n' tot or rapala.

Where did you fish? Pierheads, Point Betsie Area, south?

All year long. Make sure that you run your shortest cores on the outside if you end up running more than one leadcore set-up er side.

You can set one up yorself without a doubt. If you have never seen it fished or seen the actual application you may be better off buying your first rig already set up. Several bait shops will carry a full core already set up. If you want advice on setting one up I would get a penn 340 or 330 reel as you will need lots of space for the core. It is thicker than normal line and takes up a lot of room. You will want 200 yards of backer before the core and then about 30 to 50 feet of leader. On Mine i used 30 ft of 20lb mono to cover the spool and then 200 yds of power pro 30lb I believe (may have been 50) and then tied on another 50 feet of mono then the full core then more mono again. I hope this didn't confuse you to much.

Leadcore is a type of line that has a center piece of lead (acts like a sinker) wrapped by a sheath to give it some strength. Highly productive. Most people run it off planer boards (church's walleye is very popular for this) or straight out the back (down the chute) of the boat. The line is color coded every 10 yds to make it easier to tell how much you have out. A full core is 10 colors/half core is 5. Most use 27lb core but a few use the 18. The sink rate for the 27lb is about 4 to 5 ft per color depending on your speed. Higher speed slower sink rate.

The way I used to tie my flies is to hold the line at the length you want you leader to be and then fold the line back over itself and use the loop (just big enough for the treble or single hook to fit through) it creates to tie a half hitch. Clip the remaining end off. Attach the fly to the flasher by running the loop through the swivel and then the fly and hook through the loop and pull tight. What I have done lately is to tie them direct because I have gotten to a point where I have a couple of each of my favorite spinnies and I use them more as a set rather than change out the fly.

I will be trailering the boat and launching at the city launch.
