  1. WTG Dan. We are still running harnesses with the real thing and Gulp. We started today in 2 to 3 footers that built to 3 to 4s. We only managed 5 keepers. Fri and Sat 3 man limits and Sunday 11 keepers. Sunday was tough conditions also. Fri Sat Sun on the water so Mon I took a break. LOL It's a tough job but someone has to do it. Gotta Luv That Sag Bay.

  2. GJ JWheeler,

We have been pounding the Sag Bay also. I have used the rubber bands before and sometimes even a very large walleye will hookup and just swim with the boat. We pulled 3 man limits on Fri, & Sat and 11 fish on Sun. Sun it built quickly to 3 and 4 footers. We had a 4 yo onboard and hung it up early. Gotta Luv the Sag Bay.:)

  3. 3 person limit Friday and Saturday. I'm going again tomorrow if the weather is right. Harnesses with Gulp did well along with the real thing. Color didn't seem to be a factor. I was showing my son how to set things up. We had 2 fish before we got set up, and shortly after that we had the first of two triples. Get em while it's hot on the Saginaw Bay.:)

  4. What Tad said. Generally I try and average 2.7 MPH SOG on the GPS.:) I also watch the bend in my Dipsy Rods and the angle of the downrigger cables. I also use a Fish Hawk with speed and temp. @ the ball. All this information helps to fine tune a presentation.:)

  5. Welcome aboard Bob. I know you will like it here. I fish Lake Huron and it's Saginaw Bay, with a few trips a year to Lake Michigan. I fish for Walleye, Salmon, and Lake Perch. I do boat some Browns, Lakers, and Steelhead also.:)

I always wanted to fish the August Salmon runs on Lake Ontario. I know there is always a quite a few monsters taken.:)

  6. Rich,

Try some Blue Dawn Dish Detergent. It would be a good time to swab your deck with a strong mix of this stuff and water, and let it drain into the bilge. Keep the plug in, and pump off. Fill the bilge up as much as possible and let this mix set for an hour or two, then drain. The original Dawn has a distinct clean smell and cuts petroleum stuff well.

  7. I was out in that area also, and it was slower for us than in the past. I had some green horns aboard that slowed us up a little. It was a nice day on the water and I got to see a 10 yo boy catch his first and several more Walleye after that. It don't get any better that. Success is not always about numbers. We did take a few fish off riggers on some standard SS spoons a few feet off bottom and 15 ft back. Still pulling crawlers off inline boards.

  8. GJ Dan, I put the trailer tires in the water today @ 7:15AM. A fisherman at the dock said he just came back in, and there were 3+ footers out in the open waters. I said TYVM, and headed home. 2 of us boxed 9 fish yesterday, and I'll try again tomorrow. I may try some small spoons on the riggers tomorrow.

  9. The Dipsy rods are long and stiff to take the extremely hard pull of a Diver. You may be able to use them for boards, but I would rather have a 6 or 7 ft rod for them. The dipsy rods long length also helps to keep the rod tip out farther than the out and down riggers.

  10. With leadcore you run all of it out. 2 colors of leadcore is 20 yards, or 10 yards a color. 2 colors will get you down about 10 feet. The 2 colors of core probably has a 50 ft mono leader and a mono or braid backer. In addition to the 2 colors of core he probably ran out another 50 ft or more of backer. It's NOT a good idea to run two colors out on a 10 color setup. The releases and rod tip will tear up the leadcore.:)

  11. What pound line do you guys like to run on your reels. We used to run twelve about five years ago, the last time we went out. That was mainly because we had smaller reels. Now we have larger reels with more capacity. I'm thinking 20lb because that's what Capt. Ken Neidlinger runs according to his tape, but with as clear as lake michigan is that seems a little heavy. Does 15lb or 17lb sound better. Just not sure.

10# for Walleye trolling. 25# for Salmon. I would run 20 for Salmon but I got a deal on some 25#. I haven't seen anything negative about the 25# yet. I use 6 or 8 # on my jigging rods.
