My cousin who lives up north got a pup to go hunting with him. He is still training him but he should be of age come mid-spring. I never heard of using a GS for a hunting buddy. I always thought smaller hounds and such were best. Anyone with experience know if these dogs fair well with hunting?

Salmons easier to catch early morning before the sun comes up then? I was doing a bit of reading many fishers recommended getting out on the water before the sun rises. I guess this depends on the fish you are after?

From what I read, they tend to come closer to shore when the water is cooler but it can't be too cold otherwise they just go into hiding. I am a beginner so this is just something I have read, no experience with it.

I watched this kid's video and found it interesting. Would these kinds of cheap lures actually work? Do you have a better method that is cheap that works very well?

Someone I spoke with on another site brought up night fishing and said there are benefits to night fishing, especially if you are looking to catch catfish. I never heard of someone preferring it before this. Do you prefer night fishing or are you more of a the suns up, get on the boat type of guy?

One of the things that has been making be mad the last few years is how so many people (especially around my age) trying to do away with tradition like it is a bad thing. There is nothing wrong with a traditional like and I prefer it. Like some of my friends even think it is not a way to live and it is horrible. I grew up with my mother being in the home. My father went to work. Me and my brother did the yard work, my sister helped my mom with cooking and cleaning. I was raised in a very Christian home and honestly enjoyed it. Today, it is frowned upon and viewed as something bad. I just don't get it. It really makes me mad.

That is a beautiful catch! Such a healthy looking guy too. How long did it take before you caught that guy? I heard some people can be out on a boat all day without a single good catch before finally getting a winner.

Anyone know a very simple cod recipe I can do, preferably on the grill? When I was about 15, I had some grilled cod from a restaurant and loved it. Since then, I have not been able to find anything like it. From what I was told, it was a very simple way of cooking cod. I would like to see if I can find a recipe or method that gives the same results.

That sounds great. I do something like this but I use leftover mashed potatoes. My mother's recipe actually. I don't know the exact measurements of everything, I tend to just eyeball it, but man is it GOOD!

I would imagine that live bait is the best option when it comes to fishing but I have read that a lot of people prefer fake or artificial bait. Which do you prefer and why? Are there any major advantages or disadvantages of one or the other?

For someone new to fishing (relatively), what would be the best "introduction" rod that is not too pricey? I would prefer to just order it online seeing as we don't have many fishing shops in my area. I am not sure what things to look for with shopping so any advice on that would help too!

Hi everyone. Thought I would start here by introducing myself. My name is Mark. I am 23. Love the outdoors and looking to take up a new hobby which brought me here. I fished a few times when I was very young but have little experience when it comes to knowing the best rods, bait, etc. I will be staying up north over the summer with my cousin (I am in Cincinnati, Ohio) and I am looking forward to being able to fish in Lake Erie. I hope you guys don't mind me asking a lot of questions!
