  1. OK 1 event to go and we have a pretty good race going on for 2nd and 3rd place I am pretty sure Drift has 1st locked up as my math says he does not even have to fish to win.
  2. What can I say Drift wins again, great weather but poor fishing in Muskegon. On the fly had the big fish at 18.65 lbs Hook em Deep was second and Bruise Time was 3rd. One more to go guys still a lot of chances for some one to score big fish of the year and win the Fish Hawk system. And still 6 boats with a chance at Port Championship money.
  3. Personally I don't care for the Church boards in that I may be the odd man out. On the other hand My planer board spreads consistently run wider and look better. Second there is not one out of the package board that really works well on a variety of setups. That may change in the future. For many the clip it on and run it simplicity of the Church Walleye board is good enough so you will hear lots of people say they are great. Those same people will drag them around like a flock of ducks behind their boats all day long. To me the purpose of a planer board is to gain width in your spread. So I have spent years doing that and have gotten pretty good at it. What I have found is there is no big gain between the Church Walleye Board and the Off Shore OR12 until you begin making changes to them or go fast. I can't get a Walleye Board to not dive at higher speeds. You will also have to decide if you want them to trip or not for me most of my setups do not trip this means you have to fight the board and the fish till you get the board in and remove it. Having it not trip allows me to run much more aggressive angles and setups to gain width without false releases. So what would I recommend my first choice is Off Shore OR12 with some minor mods done to it. 2nd would be the Yellow Birds not as easy to tune but once you learn them they will run better.
  4. sent you a PM Robert try it and get back to me on it, if it works for you.
  5. There is a pic of 2 of my boards and one of Greg's all pulling the exact same setup 200ft of 60lb copper and a clean spoon.
  6. Sadly this can be a very expensive addictive sport it is not hard to collect thousands of lures and dozens of rod and reel setups. Heck most days my fishing tackle is worth more than my boat. Get some planer boards or Slide divers you can add them pretty cheap or find someone like me and take them fishing as long as they bring extra gear LOL. While my boat is down I have done most of my fishing with friends and I always show up with too much gear. Will be fishing with a friend tonight I am bringing 8 rods and a 48qt cooler full of lures and gear plus he has 8 of my planer boards and 4 boxes of lures of mine on the boat already and he is using my track system and rod holders 8 Berts ratcheting rod holders and 2 4ft tracks he will be sad when the shop has my boat running soon and I have to take my gear back LOL.
  7. Your not covering much water with 4 riggers you have to drive right over the fish. And you need a bait they can't pass up because your limited. I dropped to 2 riggers years ago. And frankly there are days I would not even fish the 2 riggers. I can get my wire divers as deep as my riggers if I want and they will be off to the side. Other than harbor patrol which I hate and fishing the mud out front I would just as soon not have riggers any more.
  8. Many questions so here goes the cable between the antenna and the head is just a RCA to RCA shielded cable I make my own and make them to the correct length to not have excess rolled up. Quality cable and ends reduces signal loss and improves the depth it will work to. My best setup was to actually bolt the probe to the cable and seal it completely. Doing this I have had it down over 300 and working. On coated cable I used shrink tube and a bead to stop my blacks release which was mounted above the probe The shrink tube would not let the bead slid up the cable and the blacks was allowed to spin free on the cable this keep my release and fishing gear about a ft above the probe. This setup had to be replaced every year so I stopped using the probe a few years ago however it worked very well when I used it I may try the torpedo wire and hook it back up after I get the boat running again. Frankly when I was fishing 3 or 4 times a week I did not need the probe at all I knew where the fish were and simply had to adjust my pattern for the wind and weather changes.
  9. Sorry wrong again your right they took 7th mixed up my hand score sheets double checked with Patty's board pic.
  10. As to ties when I drew up the scoring system my intention was ties would combine the 2 places and split the pot however Don has mentioned other ideas I guess we need to sit down and figure it out. I really don't see a tie happening once we knock out the 2 worst event from each it will be close however.
  11. Near perfect weather calm water and mixed fishing action depending on if you found the fish or not. Congrats to Drift for 1st place and big fish 18.5 lbs On the Fly took 2nd and Storyteller took 3rd. Full results
  12. was slow for us as well went south to the nets and trolled west from 120 to 200 picked up one 12lb Steelhead going west trolled northeast a bit then trolled back in and got a 6lb king after sunset.
  13. Fish Hawk is giving a complete X4 unit for big fish of the year in our tourney series if I win it my Depth Raider will likely be for sale or you could come and join in the tourney and try and win it yourself. 3 more to go this year and big fish are going to show up soon. We fish out of Muskegon and is DNR 3 man rules start at 6 am in front of pier heads and weigh in at 1pm Grand Trunk boat launch. lots of cool sponsor prizes a chance to win some cash and maybe get a Fish Hawk as well. Worst you can do is spend the day fishing entry is 40 bucks per plus a one time 10 dollar captains fee to join the group. Oh and even if you can't catch a fish we have a second chance drawing for 100 bucks cash every event.
  14. Tied to front cleats and run a little behind midship. Never in the way and keep pressure on the bow also if I need to I can un hook the rear lines and they become sea anchors with no other changes. This way they slow the boat keep down pressure on the bow and help stabilize roll. Having a rear line does 3 things it keeps the bags from going under the boat makes them easy to retrieve ( just pull them up from the rear line ) and if your front line breaks you don't lose the bag happened 2 years ago. Once I tuned mine to the boat I have never changed the rope settings. They go in and out in seconds so if I want a fast troll I pull them if I want to stay on a target speed I run them.
  15. Most of my big fish were in the early 70's Biggest kings were snagging at Croton several 40lb fish up there over the years it was legal. Biggest king trolling was Muskegon in 73 36lb on a flat fish behind a pink lady diver. Biggest fish ever was a 6ft Sturgeon caught in Canada in 71 it was land locked and only had about a 1/4 mile of creek deep enough for it to swim in took 2 of us close to 4 hours to land it and drag it across the sand bar to deeper water. Best part was Nick caught it on a 404 Zebco with 20 lb test we took turns running up and down the creek bank to fight it sometimes in the water with it.
  16. http://www.amazon.com/50A-Digital-Motor-Speed-Controller/dp/B004M5NKH4#productDescription Put that in front of the up down switch and have complete motor control up or down with no loss in power.
  17. I sure will be glad when my boat is fixed running that far in a small boat is tuff work. we were 5 for 6 in 80 to 130 from the 16's to the 19's north troll was also best. Had one throw back laker so ended with 4 fish and our mercy fish which I landed 10 min before we pulled lines was a 13.1 lb Steelhead 82 down on a rigger doing stop starts going north.
  18. That will help are you going to fish this weekend if the weather permits we will run the MSCST tourney Sat morn and maybe you and I could get together and I could show you some things that work for me.
  19. From what you have discussed about your setup it is going to be tough to get boards to run well. You need to get the board rods high up and as far forward as you can. To pull well the board needs to run right I gave up on the Church boards many years ago because I could never get them to run the way I want. I use Off Shore boards for my high lines and Steelhead program but they won't pull anything more than a full core or a 150 copper well. So my Salmon program is all Z Boards which will pull copper very well up to about a 400 for my 450 and deep stuff I use modified TX44 boards. As setups change so do my boards. Here is one thing you need to learn to read the boards and that is when it is correct it will sit nearly level in the water and the board itself will be parallel to the boat off to the side. If it is over loaded it will wallow and not keep the nose down which means it can't dig and get wide. Look at the way the boards are running in my pics that is how a board should work the entire surface is in the water pulling to the side and running well. Last night Steve sat the drag too tight on my outside board and we dragged a 5 lb Steelhead for half a hour because I was making turns and did not realize the board had pulled back until we straightened out.
  20. PM sent but really need to see your setup to help you tune it. I can bring some of my gear and fish with you sometime if you want to see some different setups. 1st pic is a 300 and a 150 on the port side this evening 2nd pic is a 200 and a 115 on the starboard side this evening

  22. Finally came to terms with my budget and ordered a motor for my boat. So after sitting on the trailer for a year it will be back together sometime in July. New Motor is a 383 390hp at 4550 and 456ftlbs at 4250 so I can put the fast prop back on and maybe go to a even faster prop. As my old motor got tired I had to de-prop to keep the RPM's where I wanted them and still preform decent. Using my saved data from when I bought the boat this will put me back at a 33 to 34 mph cruise at 3400 RPM. The extra HP will however add over 1000 RPM's to top end which with the 17 will put me in the mid 50mph range if it will pull a 19 that would give me a chance at 60 plus. That might be fun but less fish able. This motor will make nearly 100hp more at 5500 than my old motor made at 4200 which is where it maxed out with the 17 prop when I bought it 7 years ago.
