  1. Hit the water with Larry (RCH), my dad, and myself at about 6pm. Headed south into the 9's and 10's cause we heard they did good there that morning but it must have been just a morning bite area cause we could not get them to go. We did mark a crap load of fish and bait in the area but they just would not hit nothing. We did boat one Laker around 5lbs that we released but that was the only bump all evening. Planed on hitting that area again this morning but the heavy downpour kept us in bed. Good thing is that I discovered that my float switch on the bilge pump was stuck. There had to have been 10-15 gallon's of water in the bottom of my boat this morning from all the rain last night:eek:
  2. I hear ya Mike and I agree 100%. When ever I go to the grocery store I will always grab a cart that is "floating" around in the parking lot and will put it into the corral when I am done. I will even slide the carts together that are in the corral so the attendant just has to grab and go.
  3. Pull lines and run full throttle. Seriously though, I did have to do that one time in Rogers City they were so bad. Bug spray does not seem to stop them, just slow them down a little. Sun screen seem to work a little better but it is still not a cure all. I too would like to here form some of the other members here as to there methods.
  4. I loosen the drag up on my dipsy's just enough to not let them free spool but slowly let line out. While that is going I can get a rigger or two out by the time I get 150-200ft of line out on the dipsy's. This also lets me search the higher water with the dipsey's, I have hooked a fare number of fish this way.
  5. I know, I know... That would be Larry, RatCityHooker...
  6. Nick, I am not familiar with the Lansing area but you can get cut bait at Jays here in Clare.
  7. Your welcome Mike. I was glad to. Automation process went great. No issues that I am aware of.
  8. I kinda figured it was a glitch in the supporting member thing since it did'nt happen until I signed up.
  9. I seem to not be able to log onto fish chat tonight. Any ideas as to why??? I type in my username and password and it tells me I do not have permission to enter. First time this has happend for me. Who did I pi$$ off now?
  10. Does this mean I am a share holder now..... $20 is cheap considering all the info and reports you can get from this web site.
  11. When I first started salmon fishing, I was turned onto the WD-40 thing but weened myself off of it. Simple fact that through my research is that WD-40 is not really all that good for the lake system. Not saying that it wont work, but I have caught just as many fish with it as I have without it.. Now I use my own attractant. Simply cut bait ground up in a blender and put into a spray bottle and then sprayed onto baits when needed.
  12. Thanks for the report Jim. Gonna hit the big lake Sat but still not sure where yet. You going to be out Sat??? Let me know what port you are going out of if you do.
  13. Clare, Mi. Central part of MI just north of Mt. Pleasant.
  14. Welcome to the site SkeinMachine.. Looking forward to sharing info with you. How's the fish population in Lake Ontario compared to Lake Huron the last few years?? Got Bait Fish??
  15. I did get my steering fixed but I was out with a buddy of mine today. I have a few more things to do to my rig to have it ready but should be on the water this coming weekend.
  16. Well it is finally done. I acctually allready had the NFB system so I greased it up real good and installed the new cable and man is it ever smooth now. I could not get just the cable so I had to buy the kit but only used the cable, so if anyone knows anyone that needs a brand new helm system, minus the cable, I can give them a great offer. Thanks again to all of you for your suggestions and feedback.
  17. Good job Rick and crew. That is a suprise on the stain in the water. We only ran into one small spot that had a stain in Manistee today and that was about 3-4 miles south of the harbor. Other than there and right at the pier heads it was crystal clear water.
  18. Very slow for us today. Absolutely beautiful weather today though, flat water and 60 degree's. Set lines right outside peir heads at 7:15am and headed south. Never hit a fish until 11:00am and lost it too. That fish hit a firetiger rapala 80' behind the big boards. Continued south and did'nt hit our next fish untill we were allmost right out in front off Big Sauble Point. We boated that fish and it was a dandy too. 10+lb fiesty brown. That fish hit an old jointed rapala that had very little paint left on it. Right after netting that fish we hit another nice 4-5lb brown. Second fish came on a small watermelon spoon. We had 2 rips on that spoon. Water temp stayed right around 44.5-45.5 untill we got to the point and it jumped up to mid/high 47 degrees but that may be due to normal daytime warming.
  19. No I did'nt Mike. The $180 was more than I wanted to spend allready. I do plan on getting it eventually though. Thanks for all your help fellas, I really do appreciate it.
  20. Well I screwed with my steering issue most of the day today and could not free it up. I tryed everything all of you suggested and then some. Ended up getting a whole new system, everything but the steering wheel, all for $180. Only problem is I tryed to messure the old cable while it was still installed and was off by a foot so the new one was to short and the place I bought it from was closed by the time I caught it, so now I have to wait another week to finish it.
  21. I use 30# fireline on the main line and 20# behind the dipsy. Never had a fish break off yet but I am going back to using snubbers cause I would loose fish if we did'nt get to the rod quick enough. With that fireline there is no strech so I think that the hook was being riped out of the fish's mouth.
