  1. DNR must not be getting much info from the anglers fishing in Rockport....
  2. Do I bait?? YES Do I like to hunt over bait?? NO I am not a fan of hunting over bait but I have very few places to hunt and the places I do have to hunt are not ideal area's. I have one spot that is an excellent spot that I dont need to bait but it is private on three sides of the property and virtually an uncrossable swap on the other. It takes me 1-1/2hrs or more to cross it with waders. If I did not bait the other areas I know I would not get a shot's at a deer. I hope to have my own "deer haven property" some day but until then I will make the best with what I have.
  3. Happy Birthday Rich. Mine is tommorrow..The 30th....
  4. You mean to tell me that even after Larry's age you can still call them BIRTHdays...... Just messing with ya Larry....HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
  5. I will be up there Friday morning for sure to fish, Steve.. I will be bringing another with me to fish the morning. Should roll in around 6-6:30am.
  6. Sorry Larry, your a stand up guy but that was damn funny...
  7. I work for a sub contractor for the utility company's here in Mi (Infrasource). Our man contracts are for DTE and Consumers. I currently do the gas work for DTE but I am in the works to get into the electric division for Consumers.
  8. I would have to agree that the bear population is expanding. We had one cross the road right in front of us on M-55 just west of Cadillac on our way to Manistee friday evening. That was the first free roaming bear I have ever seen in MI.
  9. I have no experience with wire but I would say that they would be close in comparison. I just dont feel the need to, nor do I have the extra $$ to ugrade to wire.
  10. Thanks guys. I run Fireline on my dipsy's, Mike. Used to run mono but I like Fire line much better.
  11. It was such a nice day yesterday My buddy and I decided to make the run to Manistee yesterday for some evening fishing and we did pretty good going 4/8. Launched the boat at about 5:30pm and headed south setting up in the 12's. We trolled back and forth between the 12's and 11's all night working the 130-150 fow range. Rigs that worked for us last night was a lemon ice spoon 40' down on the rigger, green alwife E-chip spoon 80' down on the rigger, white hotchie and white fly on the dipsy 300' back set on 1.5, and white spin doctor and meat on a dipsy 150' back also set on 1.5. Biggest fish was about 15lb's.
  12. I wrote the wrong name for the winner. The winner was Fishin Machine and NOT Fishin Magician in the AM division. Sorry for the confusion. Not sure if Fishin Machine is a member of this site or not.
  13. I know I am a little late in this report but better late than never, right. I fished aboard my Uncle's boat for this tourny and the 2 of us pre-fished Friday morning going 4/4. Went south into the 10's and worked the 60-80 FOW were we marked lots of fish a week earlier. Nothing there so we headed out and picked up our 4 fish in 140-180 FOW. Two shakers off a rigger 80 down on a Silver Streak green frog and the other 2 fish (8lb and 10lb'er) came on full leadcore with a white hotchie and white fly. Saturday morning for the tourny we decided to work that same area but it turned out that it was a bad decision. Ended up going 2/6 in 8hrs of fishing. In all honesty, we only felt 3 of those fish. Other 3 fish were a quick rip and then gone. I cant recall the baits that worked Sat cause with slow fishing comes fast drinking. Gathered some info from other boats that worked some different water and decided to go a little north and work some deep water Sunday morning. Very slow for us for the first few hours, 0/0. We ended up finding a few fish about a mile north around 280-300 FOW. Finished the day 5/6. Four king's with the biggest going just under 17lbs and one 7lb laker. All fish but the laker hit on the riggers 90-110 feet down with hotchies and meat. Laker came on a rigger 100 feet down on the SS green frog. Ended up placing 43rd in the AM division out of some 70+ boats. Congrats to Fishin Magician on the Win.
  14. I did not know that. Thanks Mike. My Uncle's boat is not this Charter boat.
  15. I am lucky if I get to prefish one day in advance due to my location and inconvenience of taking off work. 2 days would be ideal though.
  16. I will be up there also fishing the tourny in my uncle's new (to him) boat. Parking my boat for the weekend to fish with him due to a cancelation in his crew. We will be staying and slipped in the condos across the river from Riverfront Motel from Thur night to Sun. I will try and stop by and say hello fishin'magician' and feel free to do the same, 26' dark blue and white Bayliner. Boats name is Summer Breeze but not sure if my uncle has taken the old name off the boat which was Holy Mackarel.
  17. Welcome to the site Julie. Glad to have ya aboard.
  18. I could not agree with you more Mike. Someone will eventually take his place in leadership.
  19. I would have to go with Manistee. There is a nice launch with plenty of parking and most times you dont have to go far to find fish, and good sized fish at that.
  20. Kings Around, I thought I heard you on the radio but I was not sure if it was you from this site or not. Next time I will have to chatter with ya. Larry, Let me know if you want a ride this weekend. Not 100% sure if and what day I will go but keep in touch if you dont have the Toy Box up and running and you wanna fish.
  21. Man I sure hope that is not it, hopefully it is just a lifter or something. I ran a high line all day hopeing for a steelie but just could'nt find one.
  22. Fished this morning and went 2 for 3. I put the boat onto a NW run after clearing the pier heads and set up in about 100' fow, water began to warm a little there. First fish hit a free slider lemon ice spoon with rigger set at 75' sitting over 130' fow. Second fish came on a blue dolphin on the rigger set down to 75' sitting over 145' fow. Third came on the free sliding lemon ice spoon again with rigger set at 90' sitting over 160 fow. Radio chatter sounded like most boats doing about the same as we did. 160-180 seemed to be the best but we got off the lake about 12:30pm cause of the building waves and the stiff NW wind.
  23. Sounds just like my trip on 5/27. We also worked the 9 and 10's area between 60 to 90 fow and marked a crap load of bait and fish but we could not get them to bite.
  24. Glad ya got the kids onto a few fish. That realy makes it worth the trip for them, and the early wake up call. Thanks for the report Tim.
