  1. I like to run a leader that is no longer than the rod. Sometimes only 3-4 footer's.

And yes, I run a lot of stick baits behind my dipsey divers. I can show you a way to run your leads out as far as you want to for, on your divers, and still be able to reel all the way in. hehe.

I know what you mean, I want to be out there, and the engine is out of mine for maint. over the winter.

  2. I have a Merc Crusier 488 140 hp, 1983 vintage. with an I/O

This is one of the 2 years( I have been told) Merc built there own blocks.

My question is, should I try and rebuild this puppy or put it to rest and buy a new motor? This is the one that has it's own self contained cooling system.

I don't know what I am going to find wrong in there if anything. It's been a great runner, and has brought me home every time we have been out.

I have the motor out and in the garage on a stand now. The reason I pulled it is that once in awhile at high speed, it would back fire for no apparent reason.

So that's where I am , between a rock and a hard place.

Waiting for some input on this Thanks in advance, Bill.

  3. You can carry a can of Pepper Spray, the kind the mail carriers use.

And as far as filing suit against the owners, I would contact an attorney.

Also may want to contact the city where you live, see what laws they have on the books concerning "vicious" dogs.

  4. Well, I pulled my boat out this afternoon.

Got the lower unit stuck in the bottom when I pulled up to the dock at the ramp.(the water sure is low now)

Anyhow, got it on the trailer in the yard, gonna pull the outdrive and then the motor is coming out to be rebuilt over the winter.

I figured that I better get it on the trailer while I can, seems my neck is getting all swollen, and all these new smells are getting pretty attractive LOL.

And I seem to be getting the urge to spend all my time in the woods for some reason.

  5. i seen a video of more complaining fisherman about nets if you dont like the nets grow a set and cut some buoys if not quit crying PUBLIC LAKE FISH SOMEWHERE ELSE ITS HUGE not to mention lake michigan is easy to fish you have to be a real moron not to pul limits so quit crying and fish

Guys, I don't fish up there. So I can't put in any comments about that.

But, I see the above post, and the first thing I read is this

"if you dont like the nets grow a set and cut some buoys"

Just what is this guy doing? Is he trying to get even more "crap" started? ? ?

That statement leads me to believe that this guy is trying to stir things up!!

I just hope you guys up there can work things out, without any more violence

    and discontent.

And this is surely NOT the way to make new friends.

"you have to be a real moron"

  6. Well I finally got a chance to get back out yesterday.

We got a late start, never left the dock till noon. Went out to "the Hump" North of Fairport. Drops from 39' to 53' in a few yards.

Large pack of boats, very little chatter on the radio, when there was it was we got a few, or we are just picking at them. I didn't have my hope up too hight when I heard that.

Set up in 1 spot, saw few marks on the screen, only stayed about 10 mins. setup #2

same as first few marks, no fish interested in my baits.

Set up # 3. We were in 53' saw a small depression on the bottom, thought what the heck give it a try.

Well the anchor was set, lines in the water, by this time it's crowding 1:30,

Fish started hitting, just sucking the baits in more of a "fell the weight" bite, then it all broke loose... But only off the starboard side at the stern !

I have no idea what made that the hot spot, but that was the only position on the boat that was catching fish.

So, we both fished that corner, and we were back at the dock by 4:30 with a two man limit of very nice perch! We had 2 fish Ohio, (13 inchers) and several that were crowding that length.

What a great ending to a day that didn't hold a whole lot of promise.

Ray, call me and we will get out next week, after this wind calms down. Bill.
