cya out there
-
good grief both you and JDH got into em good! thanks fot all the details
PUG swears if you guys would've stayed trolling til 11pm at the rate u were going both of you would've limited out!
we had most of our bites after 10pm and for example when pulling in the 10color at a rapid clip in 88fow at 10.55pm a king scarfed it up

PUG headed out later tonight, setting lines closer to 8.15PM. Just like the last few trips by the time the night was over south of Saugatuck off Oval and it was 10.45PM and we were still fighting fish…
Thankfully Randy from Wave Dancer was already out there and had found the fish in 130FOW biting on a South troll at 2.5MPH speed is what he shared and sure enough he was right!
Ended up going 8 for 15 with a 24# and 22# king in the mix. Had a few heartbreak losses on screamers that we fought for a while and eventually the hook just pulled. One tried to empty all our 10 color backing and the other just smoked a copp300 so hard it nearly buried the board. Still for only 2.5hrs of fishing PUG felt quite content with our results.
What worked was that 130FOW mainly south troll at 2.5MPH
Highest bite was 10 color which went 3 times so 40 down
Otherwise riggers went about a half a dozen times in that 40-62 feet down range
Copp300 went 3 times
All of the above were on spoons that glow (mainly moonshine)
High dipseys went 2 times with spindoctors and flies out 180-190
Fishing seems REALLY GOOD off of Holland/Saugatuck right now – not just is there a solid bite but the size of the fish suddenly seems to have improved – for example Wave Dancer who helped us out over the radio went 10 for 16 and they had a legit 30# king and a 24# king and a 22# king and then qty2 18# kings! CONGRATS TO THEM

got a late start outta Holland but it didn't much matter... the bite for us didn't happen much until after 8pm anyway and we found em way south directly off Saugatuck in that 100-130fow
copp350 raspberry carbon early on
later it was riggers and 10colors with moonshine glow spoons repeatedly and also high diver meet rig out 150
caught fish up until 10.30pm
trolling direction didn't much matter
initially tried to mark em and catch them in much closer and was kicking around doing Saugatuck mud but they didn't seem to be in there so PUG made the decision to gamble deeper

NICE!
you fishes 3 ports in 3 days

JDH were your bites up high super.early or did theu chow up there even after the sun had been up awhile? thanks for the report. heard that it was super slow off GH this morning so that makes your report all the more impressive...
might give it a shot tonight - buoy has temp break still 30-35 down so who know
-
Thanks guys
didn't make it out this morning but my son who was with us last night ran a charter out of GH and they apparently filled two coolers in that 60-140fow - haven't talked to him yet so don't know much more - he may take Parker tonight out of Holland with his buddies so we will see how that goes...
-
based on some reports coming out of GH with cold water & bait, PUG convinced the 3 boys and I to try the Saugatuck mud tonight
went 18 for 30 all in that 36-42fow kzoo river wash out
spoons on riggers 24 down with the slider spoon 10 up worked best - sliders took 60% of the bite... it was almost comical
dipseys with braid out 77 and 80 were big hitters too with spoons
YELLOW spoons worked best
Boards only went twice which was unusual - both times size3 chrome red head jplug

the super early or super late bite seems to be the thing, off Holland at least
2 years ago about this time of year we left the pierheads 3days in a row at 4am and by sunrise we had at least a half a dozen fish... may have to try that again

Holland/Saugatuck PM 7/27 - three man limit - 15for27
in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Posted
LEGENDARY NIGHT BITE! took 90 min to clean all the fish - probably close to 200 pounds of salmon - definitely one of the better trips we've had on Parker! Best this year at least.
set lines at around 8pm
got a couple bites before sunset but most of it after... used the same trick PUG (who is tired by the way) had showed us on the last 3 trips but this time had oldest son along too in hopes of really whaling on em and that we did! at one point at around 10pm had 6 on at once. Lots of big fish tonight too. Five of em were easily 20# plus.
what worked:
riggers 50-60 down glow spoons
dipseys set deep about 100 back meat rig (went 7 times)
full core glow spoon
half core glow jplug
copp300/copp350 glow spoons
south troll in 140fow was the ticket til it got real dark and then angled east and cleaned up all the way into 100fow
last bite was 10.50pm on rigger and it got off but that was fine because we already had limit and were going to release it anyway - we were way south off Oval Beach at this point
