PUG had a super slow start and struggled to get em going tonight. Worked through and around the Saugatuck mud and even out to 60fow. Ice cold water but very few marks on the graph. Seemed like we weren’t the only ones scratching our heads, including the guys further out in that 70-120fow from chatter on the radio. Eventually after the sun went down we got some redemption with our program. Went 4for6. Boated a smaller king followed by 2 large matures and then a nice chunky coho and also lost 2 other large matures in the nightfall chaos. Rigger down 26 in 31fow – moonshine spoon 5color with with moonshine mag spoon – green jeans in 32fow Dipsey with glow jplug out 60 in 34fow 5color with moonshine mag spoon – green jeans in 37fow Dipsey with green splatter glow jplug out 69 in 38fow Rigger down 28 in 33fow – moonshine spoon Local buddy of mine in closer yet got em real good too on his 14footer. Also, ZGrinder had handful of fish earlier on and gave us some advice while we were searching and we sure appreciated that (we were fishing too deep apparently but we slid out because we weren't marking jack squat) Then another guy PUG knows off Holland apparently connected with a couple matures in that 70fow range after sunset deep down right off the bottom. Heading north to Isle Royale for a week with a bunch of the kids on Friday morning, so PUG is going to have to back off for a while. Leave a few for him when we get back! 20240821_205618_1.mp4 20240821_211052_2.mp4

Holland am 8-21 solo
2MD replied to littleboat's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
there will be more and more big dogs showing up and staying put- had a handful yesterday - they are starting to stage... lake is abnormally cooler this year and that helps may go try to find some tonight -
ran out of Holland at 345am down to Saugatuck and setup in close, deciding to gamble there seeing as the lake flipped first fish was at 450am ended up 9for14 34-40fow south troll was mainly what worked wonderbread plug and chrome spindocter green fly and a handful of other plugs and moonshine spoons were what worked we suspect we would have done better out deeper in hindsight but it was a lot of fun and PUG was quite pleased full moon played a factor too on the sunrise bite 20240820_063231.mp4 20240820_063734.mp4

Holland 8/15 morning trip
2MD replied to 2MD's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
This sort of thing happens more often in Muskegon or Manistee with the arms around the pier. Not very common for Holland though. I honestly can sympathize for the guy and kinda picture how he might have made the mistake. That weather station (that we swear by in the fall) deep inside the Holland channel flickers green and because it is directly across from the lighthouse I suppose it could allow for someone mistaking it as the tip of the north pier? I don’t know… sad & scary situation and just glad everyone lived. -
Sad & scary what we encountered leaving the pier heads this morning: https://whtc.com/2024/08/15/holland-woman-thrown-into-water-after-boat-crash-with-pier-head/ Thankfully no one drown or was killed in the crash! Setup in 150fow at around 7am Got a double in 158fow Took a 3 more hits in the hours that follow Ended up 4for5 Super high winds & current and the lake was really really building out of the south and that made it tricky, especially considering the fish we were targeting were down 90-130 A couple larger boats just kept trolling west but Parker stuck around… I wonder how they did? Sure was getting rough out there. What worked for PUG: 158fow Copp350 with an extra 200ft of mono let out at the end to get it down just a little more – kevins girlfriend SD blue version and blue fly – 18# king aka our biggest fish of morning 158fow Deep dipsey dialed on 1 out 190 on white SD greenfly 162fow Another on same SD 151fow Deep dipsey dialed on 3 out 290 wonder bread jplug (thanks for the color suggestion ZGRINDER!) 125fow White paddle on rigger down 120 Gonna be rough now til at least Monday but the lake should flip over, which makes PUG excited

1for4 between 105fow-118fow direction = insignificant white paddle green fly = very good water warm top to bottom so best bet was to run riggers down 115 and low divers out 190 and high divers at 300 heartbreak because we fought and had 3 huge kings come off behind the boat each after 20min hook pulled big white paddle in rigger white spin dictor on deep diver glow green splatter jplug on copp300 after dark

PUG left Holland harbor at around 8pm and ran way south to the waters off Saugatuck that were fruitful this morning Had a different set of kids onboard Everything that could've gone wrong setting lines did and we didn't even get everything in the water til 8.40pm and even at that we lost both full core not to long into the effort Ended up 4for4 though with some nice behemoth built ones, the kind PUG really likes! copp350 sizer green ladder jplug 10color size4 green ladder jplug Mag size hulk on dipsey out 90ft copp300 normal size green hulk spoon Seas were far rougher than anticipated. All our action came in that 89-93fow big king was on the 10color and was a male measuring 38 inches so just shy of master angler stars were beautiful tonight - feels like fall... probably no trolling til at least Monday!? just pulled up weather and wow the lake is going to get rough and turn over! 20240807_213546.mp4

Holland/Saugatuck 8/7 AM 16for20
2MD replied to 2MD's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
and this is the old school scaley green plug that went 10 times this morning... we were kinda in disbelief that it seemed like all they wanted. At one point we had 4 of them out. Took many fish on 5color, 10color, and cop350. Broke off 2 --> stinking coho spin and tangle harness! if you have any old school green ladder that oughta bark too PUG says... -

thanks guys when you go tonight my best advice would be to go light on spoons and meat since it never really went but to run spinnies chrome with green fly and dig out some green jplugs also with the way the lake is flipping I doubt you'll wanna fish deeper than 100fow especially coming into sunset... shoot in a couple days this pack of fish might be right in the piers - hopefully so because I think we are going Friday night -
lake finally settled down so at 5.30AM PUG took 3 boys and I south outta Hollland down off sliders and in front of Saugatuck 60fow at 6.02AM we got a big one on 5color drop weight size5 scaley green jplug very quiet the next 90min found em then in that 94-97 fow and just pegged away on them for a couple hours we were 9 for 9 going for a perfect 10 Olympic style but lost 3 in a row and PUG got grumpy for a bit combos that worked: scaley green size5 or size3 or size4 jplug took over half of our bites - if you have one run one they didn't really want spoons except halfameal on cop300 went a couple times chrome spindocter and green fly went a bunch too hit em as deep as copp350 (aka 80down) and as high as 5color (aka 20down) so spread throughout water column for sure but still very much concentrated in that mid-90s depth fish turning dark and starting to get ready to run! my one son turned 14 yesterday and PUG wasn't going to stop til we hit 14 20240807_101808.mp4
