  1. I'm in agreement with Hit Man on this one. These guys are on the water daily and see first hand what can happen over a much larger scale than us part timers. I have also heard from the many captains who expressed their sickening of these tournament practices and have lobbied for change for the good of the fish and fishery. I have released many fish and they mostly seem to swim away and some have floated. If it is a legal fish why not keep it? When money and egos are on the line mainly, unless we are just fishing for fun not to keep anything. But all would agree that at least some of these fish will not make it. It comes down to an ethical debate in the end, mainly dependant on whether one thinks the fish will "make it". If we knew they would die would we release many? Or throw back dead ones to upgrade to a nicer fish? I don't think so. Even our DNR plays devils advocate by the 3/2 limits they set. By only allowing 3 kings or fish of any species you must continue to fish to catch a full DNR limit. Many times the kings or coho are prevalent and even after switching programs for other species these species will be caught and released in pursuit of a full limit.
  2. Mike, this is another way to add a weight to leadcore that will drop off when you get a fish. After you let out the core you fold the backer line in half and send it through the egg sinker. Then using a small piece of rubber band through the loop to keep the egg sinker on. You will need to experiment depending on line diameter and rubber band size to get a clean release when you get a fish.
  3. 28 lb King, Port Sheldon, MI, and Door Co. WI 27 lb Laker Portage, IN 17 lb Brown Gary, IN 11 lb Walleye, Saugatuck, MI 19 lb Steelhead, Michigan City, IN 14 Lb Coho, Grand Haven, MI
  4. My favorite port is Port Sheldon. It's 20 minutes form home and there is fish there. Door Co. WI, Indiana, St. Joe, Manistee are top favorites too.
  5. That must have been you I saw out there then. We killed during the dark last summer. Even after the warm water came back after the turnovers.
  6. I rig them all of the time in the spring. We slow troll them behind a rigger, as a high line with rubber core sinker or 2 color core, and cast them for the spring coho and browns. Keep the speed down and use the electric if needed to get to the speed you would reel them. Real slow. In fact some days when the bite is slow, slow down and run the slower baits to check for a reaction. The thinfins run great slow as well as hot n tots as well to complete a slow program. Some days that's the ticket after the active fish get chased out or shut down.
  7. Yes, a stinger behind an 8" flasher. A stinger magnum behind a 11" coyote. Match the flasher and spoon and a little extra leader than a fly and with ball bearing swivel. The tin can was deadly last year with a white and green fly. When they run too fast they act like a flasher. 2.4 mph is about tops though. For walleye a mag spoon as a flasher in front of a smaller spoon or harness sounds like a great idea!
  8. LOL @ Ken Hi Rich. Hope I can join you guys this year for a couple events!
  9. Now the crowds will overrun the river, you shouldn't name rivers, you are ruining it for everyone...blah, blah, blah. Glad to hear you guys found some action!
  10. Hi Levi! Good to hear from you again. Where you been?
  11. Hi Steve, don't break anything in here. Congrats on being a mod.
  12. Hi Mark, congrats on the mod status!
  13. What's the frequency Kenneth? Fancy seeing you here.
  14. Hey Troy, I hope the Polish Princess and Tommy Two Thumbs are busy.
  15. Thanks for having me aboard. I am a NW Indiana transplant, moved west of Grand Rapids, MI in 2000. Grew up fishing Lake Michigan for 13 years before moving up. Each year I fish Portage, IN, St. Joe, Holland, Grand Haven, Muskegon, Ludington, and Manistee. I call my home port Port Sheldon since it is only 20 minutes to the ramp from home. Also spent much time fishing in Door Co. Wisconsin in my younger days. A real salmon addict, I hope no one finds a cure. Also a walleye nut from fall through spring. My summer is spent chasing silver though. I picked up a new to me 17' Crestliner last fall, fully rigged up, go by Treblemaker on the water. Give a shout if you are out.
