  1. Thanks, can you run spoons off these? Have no idea what a oceana or a hypnotist is and a web search came up with nothing that would attach to a paddle...easily anyway. Al
  2. More of that learning curve for the newbie again...what are paddles? tia al
  3. Thanks, I'm assuming that includes Penn 320GTI's and the Diawa Sealine line counters? al
  4. I've been using the number 10 which are rated for 35# and have split rings, are the ones your using as small as the number 10's? I need them to go through the rod and reel line guides. tia al
  5. Thanks all, I think I'll add one to my wish list and give it a try. al
  6. I've been reading about currents at different depths in the great lakes, and how they'll effect lure speed. Does Superior have these currents? Been trying to decide if something like a Fish hawk would be worth the money? tia Al
  7. Just wanted to say thanks to Ryan, I bought the rod holders from him and it went with out a problem. Thanks Much!! Al
  8. Thanks much, I will add the Fish Hawk to my list of things to sneak past the wife. Al
  9. Interesting info posted, especially for this newbie, thanks all. Just wondering how all this would work on Superior, I fish from Duluth to Grand Marais and hoping to hit Isle Royal this year. I'm assuming Superior has currents like Michigan, so maybe something like a Sea Hawk might be a good investment? I guess what I'm asking is will a lot of the tips and techniques that work on Michigan work on Superior? TIA al
  10. I'm thinking after enough beers there's probably a point here where you wouldn't care if you were cold, or be able to hit the bottle..maybe? Al
  11. That would be it, and cheaper than the price I had seen. Thanks much. Al
  12. Lost the favorite and can't remember where I seen it, but somebody is making a spoon plug tackle box that holds like 200 or so, comes in two different sizes and run about $70 if I remember right. Ring a bell with anybody? TIA Al
  13. Thanks guys, the track will be about 36" I think. I don't have boat but it'll either be that or 48" maybe, depending on how I set up, one long track might be the way to go as I'd like to run a rod holder just to the right of the drivers seat when trolling especially. I'll try and figure thickness and go from there, 1/4" or thinner sounds good. SeaCatchMich, will they work with the Flobe mounts? I've heard the Cannon and Flobe mounts are interchangeable ?? but not sure on Cabela's stuff. If so, maybe PM me with a price, thanks. Al
  14. Going from a tin boat to a glass boat I've found the track system will work better than attaching each device separately. Plus it gives me more mounting options. Will 1/8 aluminum plate work as a backing plate or should I go thicker, say 3/16ths maybe, or?? Also any suggestions for mounting the Flobe rod holders onto the track system? Much difference between the popular systems, Bert's, Cannon, Traxstech or Cisco? New to track systems so any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks. This is all going on a Larson 2020FX dc and I'll be using downriggers and sometimes in line planer boards off the tracks for trout/salmon. tia Al
  15. I do all mine, having a bit of CRS I have found taking digital pictures at each step is a great way to figure out which way that spring went when assembling them.
  16. I have got all my drag washers from Dawn at Smooth Drag. http://www.smoothdrag.com/ I also use a bit of the Cal's grease on them. Al
  17. I'd think using something like a T6061 aluminum should be fine, I have bases for the 2 cannon mounts I have, there made out of 1/2" 6061 and they have held for three years now. 1/4x20 threads work fine, have so far anyway. I would recommend a bit of anti seize on the stainless machine screws though. Al
  18. Thanks, I tend to run long lines and see myself getting into trouble here.. I keep getting the feeling here on Superior the boat spooks the fish, just seems with identical baits the planer boards get much more action than the riggers, so I run waaay back, maybe 125-175 foot back. Probably another newbie mistake, but it seems to work. I may have to wait till I get a few more whiskers here before getting fancy with the sliders, I was just working out leadcore last fall. Once again, thanks all. Al
  19. Interesting, hadn't thought of it till now, but the larger spoon will run higher in the water than a smaller spoon, all things equal? Would something like a small dipsy diver work to get the line staggered a bit to the side? No depth increase but the angle to get side movement? tia al
  20. I run both the older Suffix leadcore and the newer advanced 832 in 18# and the newer stuff seems to run deeper, not much but maybe a foot per section, I'm guessing. If you can do a Willis knot on the new stuff your a better man than I. I could not get the 12# big game mono to slide into the leadcore. The Albright seems to work on both for me, so that's what I use. I run a length of backing mono, then 5 or 6 colors, then a leader of mono. To save number of different depth set ups, I'll add a snap weight to the leader just after the leadcore to get a bit deeper. I also do not hook the planer board up to the leadcore and use the backing for that. Al
  21. Thanks, a web search shows multiple styles, for spoons a short shank or ?? Al
  22. Well, an email to Owner hooks has yet to be answered, but a bit of research shows maybe a number 2 hook for regs and a 1 or 1/0 for mags. This sound about right? Al
  23. Thanks all. I ended up ordering a pair of Scotty power grips and 2 Chamberlain releases, I'll pick up a couple Blacks at my local store and give them a whirl too, I'm getting the feeling I'll end up using which ones fit the style of fishing I'm doing at the time. Also looking at the Big Jons Band Buster for musky baits. Thanks goodness I only have two riggers. I also got a pair of Roemer stacker releases for Xmas, not sure how they will work, but I'll try them. Al
  24. I see Big Jon's has them, they might work well for the big baits, just keep adding rubber bands till the bait doesn't trip it, Musky are not usually a meek biter..
