  1. 11-12. 4 kings, 6 lakers and 12 lb Steelhead. Tossed a small laker and King back. Excited new guy got broke off on a big king. My fault, I did a better job of coaching him on the rest of his fish. Dropped lines in 60' and trolled out to that same 90'-115' area we did so good on Monday and back in to 90' but only had 3 fish to show for our efforts by 11:30. Thought about going in because I saw boats in 50'-60' on our way out, But I decided to head out and started catching fish immediately upon hitting 130'. Kept going to 160', but turned back because we were running out of time. Could have stayed longer and kept catching fish out there. We were still catching fish even as we were pulling lines. 30 min wait at the fish cleaning station. 1/2 core, full core, 200 and 300 Cu. all worked. My tin can dodger with the green prism tape and spin and glow on the deep down rigger got hot again taking 4 fish along with RV Moonshine Flounder Pounder, UV Blue Dolphin, UV Jager Bomb spoons. My custom pink painted spoons only took one and the big king that broke off.
  2. Great job. Think I'll be heading that way as soon as the king bite dies off between St. Joe and South Haven.
  3. A good day of fishing always beats working, oh yea, that's right, neither of us work any more. Going to have to find someone to give fish to. The wife is already complaining about how full the secondary freezer is with fish.
  4. You might want to save your self some gas. I've seen some decent Facebook catches from further south on your side of the lake. Unfortunately like most things on Facebook, all you get are photos, no details. I figure if you don't say where and how you got the fish your just bragging. Feel free to come on over. New Buffalo and St Joe are on fire right now.
  5. Weather permitting, I plan on going back on Saturday.
  6. Went 12-15 in St. Joe today. 9 kings including one 22 lb and two 20 lb fish, two Coho including a nice 10 lb fish and one laker. Best depth was 95' to 115' mostly NW of pier. Everything took fish. 5 color, 10 color, 200' and 300' of Copper and down riggers set anywhere between 55' to 75' down. Hot lures were Moonshine RV Flounder Pounder, Moonshine RV Craig's Flounder, Green Dolphin, Jager Bomb and a couple of UV lures doctored up with a pink paint stick as shown in the photo. Green and something with pink on it were the best colors. I don't have photos of the spoons my buddy was running, but here are mine.
  7. Thanks for the report. Heading out there on Tuesday.
  8. John's Tuition - nice set up. Trees make so much difference.
  9. John's Tuition- my boat is a 2050 Commander. Too bad about the narrow gunnels. Plenty of room on my Commander to mount everything, but your boat is still a very fishable boat. When I wanted to get something more multi species than my Trophy (shown above) my decision to go with Crestliner was based on many years of fishing on my buddy's 1650 Fish Hawk. We put that boat through the ringer. At least 4 of the great lakes and more inland lakes than you can shake a stick at. Salmon, walleye and almost anything else that swims. PS: Here is the track and down riggers set up on my boat. My buddy's gunnels were narrow, but we were able to squeeze tracks on his fish hawk
  10. Thanks. You must be a man of impeccable taste You either like the lime green on the Challenger and the Mad Fish Graphics on our boats or not. My wife does not like either. I would think she has no taste, but that can't be true because she married me How do you like your Super Hawk?
  11. It cost me almost as much to add a 15X30 extension on as it did to build the original 30X30. It's also more expensive to go with wood and vinyl siding (I wanted to exactly match the house). My neighbor built a 30X45 with metal siding for $10,000 less than my original pole barn not even including the add on. His looks fine. They matched his house color, the siding just goes up and down vs sideways.
  12. Good choice. I love my pole barn. I spend a lot of time out there. My wife threatens to move my bed out there. One suggestion. Go big. Mine was originally just a two stall and I had to add on when when I got another toy. Would have been cheaper to build the correct size to begin with.
  13. “Fished St. Joe north and south of pier in 75' +/- 10' of water. Went 7-7. Two kings and 5 lakers. Kings were 22 and 18 lbs. Started in 60' and picked up a nice lake trout almost immediately on a tin can dodger doctored up with some green prism tape and green/silver spin and glow on the DR down 50'. This same setup would take two more lakers later down at 65'. Made it out to 80' without another bite so turned back into 50' and got into the dirty water. Nothing. Made the turn back out into clean water again beyond 70' and the Dipsey Diver on a 3 setting 99’ back with a Captain John King gold orange crush spoon took the 22 lb King. The 300 Cu with a pink and orange crush spoon took the 18 lb King. Full core with pink alewife spoon and the other DR down 55' with a UV blue dolphin spoon took the other Lakers. Charter boat we talked to at the fish cleaning station out in 162’ did real well, 19 lakers and 5 kings with one of the kings being 28 lbs.
  14. Thanks for the report. Unable to get out this weekend, so going to try on Monday.
  15. Nice King and nice seeing you out there and thanks for sharing info.
  16. Thanks for the report. Hopefully we will still see some fish come in down here yet this fall. Otherwise it might be time to start thinking about river steelhead.
  17. 2.7 SOG is not usually too fast if you are trolling for most salmon lures. Speed is all about the action of your lure when you are trolling. Diffretent lures run better at different speeds. The best way to learn is to watch the action of your lure when you put it in the water and note the speed. Sometimes less speed is better other times more speed is the ticket depending on conditions. Once you start dialing in your speeds you can play around with bumping your speed up and down until you start getting bit.
  18. Good plan. Time to head north for salmon or east for walleye. It sure was fun while it lasted.
  19. I always tell the young guys just getting into it to always pay for your fishing tackle in cash. Checks, credit and debit cards let your wife know how much you really spend. My greatest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell off my fishing gear for what I told her I paid for it.
  20. Thanks for the info. Want to fish Frankfort yet this year. I'll make sure to stop in there. I would almost exclude Jays from my big box store classification. I agree they are Michigan based and do have a great selection of tackle for what we fish for in Michigan. Franks Great Outdoors is another Michigan based larger store like Jays.
  21. Make sure you support your local bait and tackle stores. I was thinking about my recent trip from SW Michigan over to Lake Erie for walleye fishing. I called the Fishermans Wharf in Port Clinton and they told me where the fish were and what they were biting on. Got our three man limit. Try getting that kind of info at one of the big box stores. These are certainly not the only ones out there, just a few I've used. Stop by to see them if you are traveling in their area to get the local fishing report. 22. Hit the Ohio waters of Lake Erie Erie on Friday 6/8 with my two brothers-in-laws. We ended up 19-21 on the walleye (tossed one U/S fish back) 6 sheepshead, 3-4 white bass and a really nice catfish. It was most definitely a spoon bite. Bigger baits like the hot bandits and thunder sticks we have used on other trips did not get bit. Ran the same rod and reels and some of the same lures we used for spring Coho fishing in southern Lake Michigan this year with a spread of 2 & 3 color leadcore and 3.5 Mag Lips on mono as our deepest lines running down to 20'. Copper backed UV Jager Bomb walleye size spoon was hottest, standard size UV Whammy salmon spoon took its share, blueberry muffin colored walleye spoons took a couple and a gold/orange/white belly mag Lip was also hot. Made 2 1/2 downwind passes running SW from the NW corner of Kelly's Island down towards the NW corner of Catawba Island. Picked up and motored back to Kelly's island after each of our runs. Speed was 2-2.5 mph on the GPS, occasionally pushing 2.75. Here are the hot lures. The UV spoons have copper backs and the blueberry muffin spoon has a chartreuse back.
  23. Lake Trout fest this morning in South Haven We wound up going 7-10. 6 lakers and Coho. We tossed one small laker back. Fished between 114-147 with 125 best depth. Ran NW & SE trolls. Everything took fish, DR/SWR (Down 70 & 80), 200 & 300 Cu and full core. Same spoons we've been catching kings on the last few weeks. RV Flounder Pounder, UV Whammy (standard & mag) and my modified green taped dodger and spin and glow. A big king took one of my new flounder pounders. It jumped several time and was gone. I believe it got the line in its mouth as it was twisting and turning out of the water since the remaining leader was severely chewed up. Luckily I purchased 3.
