  1. Nicely done keep the reports coming.

As time and weather allow of course. LOL...was hoping for a day this weekend, looking at the forecasted winds...I may just sit tight and do things around the house....:thumb: Keeping my eye on the wind forecast over the next few days to determine if it's worth going or not....25MPH winds predicted, out on the open water of the bay, I'm guessing it will be greater than that.....

  2. Hit the ice with FishinMachineII and his posse on Saturday. Worked our way out to 21fow and set up shop. Missed 5 eyes in a row.....thought I was doomed for the day. Marks on the vex became less, so we made a move into shallower water 15fow ish. Fish on the ice immediately.

Kept my 5 and played C&R throwing back several other keepers! It was a fun filled day of walleye fishing on the bay. Ice was plenty thick, and the crack was working, but we found a good place to cross.

Here are the two lures that I settled on after changing lures non stop. A moonshine shiver minnow and a JDeez spoon

Be safe out there fellas, the ice is good, but those cracks seem to vary daily. :thumb:

  3. Finally made it out to chase after walleye. Time hasn't been something I have a lot of, so when asked to join a few friends on the river, it worked!

Hit the ice about 3 pm near Indy Bridge area, drilled holes from 5fow to the edge of the channel in 17fow. Hole hopped for a bit with little interest from the fish, finally settled in 14fow with fish under me. I had limited action, throwing back 3 fish (1 of which may have been legal, but don't need to keep fish that small) and missing a handful of other bites. Ice was 3-5" thick where we fished. Started with moonshine spoon and a white do-jigger. They didn't seem to want to play so I started going thru the box. I had the most activity on a clearance lure I bought at Gander on clearance last year, it was blue and silver with sparkles. The fish would come flying up off the bottom, but I couldn't get them to commit to bite.

Even though I didn't bring any meat home, it was still a fun time with a couple of buddies. We capped off the trip with a visit to Hooters in Bay City. A burger and a brew after our time on the ice hit the spot.

I have been following posts about the river and the bay, and as always, if you venture out on either, take your time, use your head and be safe. Heard of 6" here, and 1" there. Predicted for some really cold weather in the forecast so things should shape up nicely after yesterday's mid 40* temps in Genesee County area.

    Tight lines

  4. 20-25'. My, new to me, vexilar fl18 with auto zoom really helped me out once the fish went tight to the bottom. But, before that, they were aggressively feeding, which makes catching them a breeze. Before i was done buttoning up the new clam 6 pack mag 1660 my buddy who took me to this spot was putting fish on the ice. There was maybe another 6-12 people fishing there too. I did try muddy bay on Friday night, and i was NOT on the fish. That is only 5' in there, some dudes fishing near me cleaned up though. Love the early ice bite :thumb:

  5. Made it out with my buddy on Wixom. Fished Friday not and didn't do worth a darn.

Headed to a different spot on Saturday morning, Set up my new clam 6 pack and got cozy. We were into the fish immediately and experienced a very aggressive early bite. About 1030-1100 the fish went belly to the bottom and began to light lip making catching a wee more difficult. We ended the day about 1230 with 45 keepers, mainly crappie and a few blue gills to go along with them. Ice was 4-5". Good luck and be safe

  6. I have the same issues with my families....I have 3 kids, who I can't seem to find gifts for because everything out there is the same CRAP they already have. I value the time we spend with their grandparents more than the gifts that people think they need to buy for them. IT goes the other way too, my parents and hers, really don't need anything. Typically we buy a gift certificate to a golf course for my folks, and for hers we buy a gift certificate to a restaurant we know they love that they're likely not going to spend their own money at.

Seems as time has passed, the importance of the season has become lost. I for one, don't need anything, or really want anything from others. I love the little gifts from my kids, and of course from my wife, and hope that she loves them too. But the gifts from the kids make the kids extremely happy just to give daddy something, which is a real treat to see how proud excited they get.
