  1. We have been catching perch with them in their stomachs in 60FOW. So everything has been eating them. 2 years ago we caught a Goby in 105 FOW while fishing perch so I know they are atleast that deep.
  2. Anyone running a side scan or side imaging system for salmon. If so how do you like it. I think they would be great for locating bait fish.
  3. Not looking for a prob to hook to the ball yet. I can't afford one but would like to know where the temperature breaks are atleast to start. Where I fish there generally are not that many guys out to ask.
  4. I don't have a temp prob on my boat and was looking at Fish Hawk TD to atleast have something. What do you guys think of these units and is there any alternative products out there.
  5. How may of you are running a structrure scan by lowrance or a humminbird side imaging. If so how do you like it. I figured this would be great for locating bait fish.
  6. I like a lot of fisherman I believe. Like to go out to a spot where they usually catch fish or hear that people have been catching them. We then proceed to set lines and start fishing. I think a lot of times this costs me a lot of fish and is in general a waste of time. How many of us do this? What do you typically look for before you start fishing? Bait, fish, temp what? Also how long do you usually fish a spot before you decide that it is time to move?
  7. I am going to make a trip to either Frankfort or Leland tomorrow morning. Has anyone have a report for either place. Fishing has been real slow in Charlevoix.
  8. I picked up 5 of these yesterday and am going to give it a shot. I have a buddy that ran them last year behind divers. He said he used the teasers off a cut bait rig in front of the plug and it seemed to catch more fish. He used tuna as well. I am going to give it a honest try. I think they will work.
  9. I fish perch in deep water 100' plus some times. A heavy weight is a must to get you down. I always run an ultra light rod and something that is has a low modules. I like a ultra light because you can see the bite better. And a low modules because in waves you can keep a slight bend in your rod without lifting the weight off bottom. Plus you with both it is more fun to fight the fish. I run a braid main line with a leader. There is no negative affect if you are not casting it. You reel up fish that weigh more than a ¼ oz don’t you! One tip to help you see the bite better is to paint the tip of your rod. Take some Vaseline and coat the guides so it don't stick. Then paint it white for a base, then some high vis chartreuse, orange, or yellow.
  10. Awsome its always great to see the kids catch them.
  11. I would like to make a trip to Manistee this year. How long before you think it will heat up. Is there a certain surface temp I should be watching for before making a trip. I figured about 2 weeks from now.
  12. I have used this hotline before and it works. I hunt a piece of CFR land and most of the people follow the rules and walk to their spots. But there are people that think they can ride 4 wheelers in or drive there trucks. It sucks to walk a mile back in to a spot well before light to have a lazy SOB drive in at first light, then get PO'd when you point out they are breaking the law.
  13. I have been thinking about making some of these. So I have 3 question. How much of an improvement do you see in the tracking of your boards? How would you angle your tubes? I was thinking of just going on a 45 but rotating them foward as I go up the tree. Does anyone use the main tube as a hod holder?
  14. I have 2-10' dipsy rods and have been thinking of pick up 1-2 more to run on the inside of them. I was thinking that a 7' rod would be perfect. Currious to see what everyone else is running for rod lengths when using more than 1 diver rod per side.
  15. magnumdeke What size tube did you use?
  16. JWheeler, I went to their website and watched the Youtube video. They look like good products. The stacker release looks awsome also.
  17. Did you see how many had lamprey on them? It sure makes you wonder how many fish they kill.
  18. what are you calling a tin can. Is it just a flasher?
  19. Nice. I have something simular, but in an excel spreed sheet. It is easier to see the whole year at once. I also keep boat info on it like equipment and service records. I have a theory that the difference between good fisherman and great fisherman is the records that they keep. Not say by any stretch that I am great, but the records I have kept have helped me a lot. I will send a copy to GLF with some generic info so it can be posted, hopefully someone else can use it.
  20. It was not a skipjack it was a Herring. The current state record for Lake Herring is 5lb-6oz. They have to be 16" or 2lb-8oz for a master angler. Which I could care less about. But if it was a state record I would have entered it.
  21. Here is a picture of the herring. I have caught a bunch of 15" walleye over the years and I have gotten good at judging size. It was bigger than them and I was being conservative. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=127&pictureid=283
  22. A girl I used date years ago, her dad caught a comorant 70' down on a all chrome spoon once. We get a major migration through this area. So I don't think he was pulling my leg.
  23. How common is it to catch herring while trolling for salmon. We were fishing the LCATT Lake Charlevoix Area Trout Tournament last weekend and caught a herring 40' down on a gold spoon w/black spots. It inhailed it, with all three hook in its mouth. It was about 16" long. When we were reeling it in I though it might be a steelie, cause the color is so close. They were in feeding on Hex flys aka mayflys. We seen some surface for them. What are some none target fish you have caught while trolling?
