  1. Great Video!! What kind of rod holders you running? Do you like them.
  2. Has anyone had any experience with Boat US regarding being towed in or their road side assi. I have been a member for a year now and just renewed my membership. For unlimited fresh water towing it is like $58 a year. I fish way out sometimes, over 30 miles. I figured it would be cheap insurance if something happened. From my port they cover up to 50 mile out. Wonder if their coverage is as good as they advertise. http://www.boatus.com/towing/services.asp
  3. Yankee Troller I know what you are saying about the otter boats. They really track nice and have been debating on getting another set. Don't complain about a 9'6" beem. I fish out a 16' Lund Pro Angler with a 60hp merc 4st. It is 16.5' long with a 89" beam. We tend to look like a porcupine and that is the way I like it. I have fished 35 miles of shore before and put about 90 mile on the boat and burnt 12.5 gallons of gas. Its a small boat but it gets the job done. If I add another rod or 2 they will be either wire, cooper or more LC. We fished a tournament this last weekend and most of the fish came on LC.
  4. I have 2 penn 320's,2 Diawa LCA 47LC, 6-27 LC Accudepths, 4 okuma convectors from 20-45. They all work. But I like the convectors the best, with the LCA's next. The accudepth reels are junk. The new accudepth plus reel are suppose to be better. I would buy convectors they won't break the bank and are great reels. Below is the cheapest I have found them. I have been told by friends that they are cheaper at the store, but have not had a chance to go yet. http://www.northwoodsoutlet.com/oscommerce/catalog/index.php?cPath=4_38_130
  5. Is the big issue getting lines to clear of each other after catching a fish on an out side line. For example you are running a 3,7, and 10 color LC set off one side. The 3 on the out side and 10 on the inside. If you catch a fish on the 3 you can't bring it to the inside when reseting because the 7 or 10 will tangle if you get a fish on them. Am I thinking right on this.
  6. I have 6 Offshore OR12 boards. I run them for walleye and salmon. I did have some Otter boats but sold them after a short time because I realy didn't think I would ever use them. Know I am wishing I would have kept them and am thinking of getting another set. How many guys are running big boards off a mast vs. inlines. What do you find are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
  7. I typically run 8-9 rods. 2 riggers, 2 divers, 4 LC (3, 7, and 2-10 color rods) and a long line, sometimes with a divebomb. 5 boards. I have been running offshore OR12 boards. But they don't seem to track as well as the church board I used to have. I have been thinking of adding some weight to front of it so that they have a little more bite. The nose of the board is to high in the air when pulling all of that lead. Glad to see I am not the only one to have problems with wild Kings. Running through the set. Also if I was to add another rod to the set up what should I add. Wire or Cooper? Thanks for the tip on the Z boards. But I wish I wouldn't have sold my Otter boats. They tracked awsome.
  8. I currently run tite lok's. I have never had them broke by a fish or lost a rod. I did have one guy break a pin by trying to get a rod out of the holder when a big king was stripping line. He was not strong enough to pull the rod out so he jerked up on the rod and sheared off the locator pin. I did make up some tethers for the diver rods after that. I used 1/16" aircraft cable and some ferrules. I put a small lope around the rod just in front of the reel. Then I took a piece of cable about 10' long and put a dog snap on one end so you can take of the tether after the rod is safe in the boat. On the other end I put a threaded D connector, but a loop big enough to go over a cleat would work fine. I would recommend doing this until you get good rod holders. I want to upgrade to Cisco's, Stingers or Big Jon's eventually.
  9. I stopped by the Ironton launch last night and it had a new sign and new money collection post/box. The sign posted said that the law/act had been est. in 1994. I don't have a problem paying for the use of the launch. $24 is cheap for me concidering the number of times a year I launch. The bad thing is that in a lot of instances as Line Dancin stated is that the money ends up in the general fund instead of maintaining and improving these areas. That is what upsets most of us. I will say one negative thing about this is that they spent all this money putting in these money collection points that will get used for 1 year. Because next year it will be included in the registration fee that is a waste of time and resources. Unless it is going to be used to collect from out of state boaters.
  10. I launch at Dutchman and Ironton all of the time. We launched out of dutchmans Saturday and never noticed a sign. When did this change? I put the boat in over seventy times a year and the only launches I have had to pay at were city run one like CVX and Boyne. The only place I have ever recieved a ticket was CVX. Thanks for the heads up, what sticker am I going to have to buy. It seem like every time you go out you have to buy something else. GLF if you are correct then the launches we are discussing should be free.
  11. Great report. Did you run any bottom bouncers or inline weights? I want make it down there ASAP. I will make sure to take some purple and pink.
  12. I have both Diawa LCA's and Okuma Convectors. I like the convectors better and they are cheaper.
  13. Nice Job. I was on Lake Manistique the 15th-17th and we caught a lot of fish but only 3 keep eyes and 6 keeper pike out of 3 boats. I told the guys we should have ran over to the bay.
  14. thanks for the tips. I think I need to go to 50# backer.
  15. Great video. I like the shot of the back of the boat were it looks like you bleed out a pig.
  16. Great Avatar where did you find it.

  17. What kind of knot is everyone using to tie their backer to their leadcore line? I have had atleast 2 times where my line has broke at the backer. I am not sure if it is breaking at the knot or further up the line. Should I change my knot, backer, leader or what? I will say that I don't have a problem with fish breaking me off. It is caused by another fisherman running across the back of my boat. I have 27# LC and 30# power pro for a backer, and run 20# maxima ulta green for a leader. I have been using a knot that is combination between a nail knot and an albright. Thanks http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com
