  1. Try this place , he sell on ebay decent prices and quick ships

BRETTS PLACE ON THE BAY http://stores.ebay.com/BRETTS-PLACE-ON-THE-BAY

I bought 4 lead core reels and poles

    xp 302 5 colors

    xp 452 7 colors

Diawa wilderness rods 8' 6" medium heavy

all my rods are these except the 10' 6" diawa heartlands for dipsys . I also have 2 of the cabelas depth master which I wouldn't recommend ,because of the wimp factor of these. way too soft but are still useable.

I really like the lead core setups and if I would do it over I would buy the lead core first .Make sure you have good quality rod holders , not plastic ones as I did as these won't hold up . Ebay is a good place to check out too.

  2. So, was Nick glad he went? It's been a great year for you so far Jim.

His exact words were yes and no, he was glad he went and caught a large king, and no for the weather. I promised my wife that I would never venture out on the big pond by my self, so I count on my son to go, He is asking more question s and becoming more interested every time we go out . He loves to fill out the log posted by Mike, It means more to me than he knows fishing with his dad, As I did with my father.

Before I fished lake Michigan I would fish northern Wisconsin all the time , but gas prices keep that to a minimum now.

I think the Smile on his face says it all.

  3. Spent a lot of time Sunday for little to show ,2 fish ,so I decided to go out again on Monday. My son Nick is getting a little tired being in the boat so he was lets say stubborn to go out , with a little prodding he went. left the launch at 7:10 pm going to be a short night. Ran out to 75 ft set lines on east troll until we hit 82 feet and turned NE , not 5 min and the 5 color starts screaming , Nick picked up a nice 12lb king, now I'm behind the 8 ball its my turn and just get his in and 7color goes off. well still behind the 8 ball with a 3lb Coho pulled in rigger line get it untangled and let go of the line to put it back in and the rigger goes off , No way it can't be , well half way back to the boat the fish let go . Get all lines back in and the alarm goes off on the radio, Some nasty storms are blowing up and its looking pretty dark to the west. turn the boat west and tell my son that we should head in in 15 minutes. waited only about 10 decided to pull lines now . Didn't want to be caught out in a storm. Started to pull the 7 color in and 5 color just starts screaming , oh crap set down the 7 and grab the 5 . I have never thought I would get spooled on my big lake rods but it came awe full close . I may have had only 125 feet left on the real .as I looking at my large bobber (planer board ) approaching the horizon the same rigger goes off. and my son is struggling to get it out of the rod holder. As I gain line and control of the fish I have on , the one my son has skys 20 ft off the back of the boat. mayhem you bet we now have no driver both of us with big fish on Nick decides to let the fish off with a warning. (let him get off). and starts pulling rods as I battle it out with this bruiser. Boated a real fat 16lb female on a white glow spin DR and with white glow fly. Nick gets in one rod in the mean time only 2 more lead core and 1 rigger rod to go and we really have to go!!! I don't know what made my arms hurt so much, the fish or setting a new record pulling lines. Made it back into the harbor after 1/2 way back putting on life jackets, and racing back at a whopping 25mph. Not getting wet either . Next time not waiting even 5 minutes to pull lines ,fish or not its not worth it. Ended up 3 for 5 and 30lbs + in the box. What a night ,while cleaning fish at home sirens go off and off to the basement . We had 2 tornadoes last night in south eastern Wisconsin not to mention 3 to 5 inches of rain. Staying home tonight cleaning up the boat and untangling rods that were hastily thrown into the front of the boat to get off the water.

  4. Wow June is just flying By, out on the water 4:50 am set lines spent the next 2.5 hours washing baits. Very slow this morning,7:20 drive by not paying attention to the rods, grabbed it and nothing there, more practice setting riggers. Not long after that port rigger goes off with a screamer, by the time I got control of the fish it had pulled out 225 ft of line , 18lb king it was the high lite for the day. 15 minutes later 7 color on the right side goes off, this was a nice fish also but tangles up with the 5 color and broke the line off, by by blue dolphin spoon. After clearing that mess decided to run only 2 lead lines and try the other riggers. Set rear riggers up with flasher flys 30 back 50 down. Right rear rigger goes off ,fish is just about straight down at the back of the boat and didn't want to budge .Finally get this one to move but not to my advantage, takes out port rear rigger and port side rigger(set down at 80ft). Now I have a nightmare , one fish on three rods, ended up hand lining the last 10ft. Ended up 2 for 4 and a lot of line to deal with. Now I know why you carry extra rods! A few pictures of fish porn to share with you, first two cant remember the date only that they came off the spare camera and were taken in June.

  5. I am adding 4 more rods to my arsanel this weekend. I was thinking of getting into copper because of the shorter line to depth. Like a 100, 150, 200,and 250.

Or should I be looking at mixing it up like a 150, 250 copper and a full core and a half core.

Also I'm looking for some feed back on the new okuma xp 302 and 452 reels if anyone has had one yet.

    Thanks Steve

I just got out this week and tried out my new lead core reels XP 452s 7 color worked great, very smooth good drag also. Sunday I will be trying out the xp302s 5 color , I think they will be very much the same. Bought them from Brets place on the bay, very good price all spooled up ready to go.

  6. I am getting the spoons and flies this coming week and will get them distributed as soon as I get them. I have more people signed up for the spoons than I do the flies. Would some of you mind testing the flies instead?

I will test either one , the bite has switched to spoons but either is ok.

  7. I have since replaced all the plastic scotty rod holders with Tite Locks 8 of them soon to be 10, Need some where to put the net . Here is a couple of shots of the boat setup .

  8. Late report from the 16th My son and I had a good night going 5 for 6 tossed one laker back and had one through the hook back so hard had to duck as it sailed past my head.First time out with the lead core ,all but one came on 7 color with blue dolphin spoons.Had one double on the cores, what a work out on the arms, adding 5 color too that should make my spread just right. Big rollers but waves were none existent. made for a fun ride that night.

  9. Picked up some church walleye boards just not sure if I have the set up right, rod was bouncing quite a lot pulling them through the water, had a pretty good chop .are the rods suppose to do this or am I doing something wrong?

    JIm

  10. Thanks guy for all your input on the rod holders . I bought 8 Tite loc rod holders, these are sweet, Installed with a bigjon manual down rigger, much better than the Cannon manual riggers I have . Much smoother and the tip up feature is awesome, makes hook ups a lot easier , no leaning over the rail .Only thing I didn't like were the band buster releases that came with the bigjons, I am changing them out for Blacks.

  11. Well I took the plunge and bought 2 lead core rods and reels, here is my question for you , I don't have any planner boards how should I run these. They are 7 color.Straight out the back ? on a rigger down deep? I have 2 riggers on the back of my boat and 2 off the side. right now I am running 2 dipsys per side. I was thinking of running them off the back riggers with the ball at 60 . Fishing in 90 to 130 fow. As of right now I am completing my arsenal just have to get new rod holders to replace the plastic scottys .

  12. A late report from Monday, Took my daughter and son with me that night , very slow night . tangled 2 dipsey rods and as I'm trying to untangle them one of the dipseys on the other side goes off, Emily gets the rod and with a little help from her dad she has her first lake trout and first fish on the big pond.

A little excitment for a while. ha dto dodge two poles pulled back in to untangle.

    1 for 1 that evening.
