  1. I really have to thank all of you that helped me out this year, I have surpassed my goal of 100 fish this year and I'm not done yet:grin:. My son and I went 4 for 6 this morning , it seemed that the hot lures were a green dolphin and a blue dolphin, one on the glow stick J Plug . We started east of the north gap in 60 feet trolled out to 110 feet . Left 110 when the wind and waves kicked up. Picked up 1 nice brown in 43 feet off the break wall.We had one double on and my son lost his , both reels started screaming at the same time. I think nick was more excited than I was , he screamed double!!!!!

Tight lines to you guys this site is awesome.

  2. Late report from Thursday, My son nick and I were out on thursday and was very slow to say the least, at least where we fished. ended up 1 for 2 for the evening. Trolled the current first with nothing to show from 70 ft of water, turned west at the towers and got the only fish of the night in about 65ft. continued to 60ft and turned south and the fog rolled out to greet us,before we knew it u couldn't see more than 75 ft. could no longer see the boards . With the fog we couldn't move very fast so I decided to keep lines in the water, then the screamer hit on a lighted glow J plug. Ripped out a good 170yds before getting free. really would had liked to see this one. The swells got to be pretty rough and the fog made for some creative boat control .trying to keep clear of the other five boats heading in also. Had nick put on his life jacket and pull lines sitting down, only because I couldn't watch him and he is not used to pulling rods in waves like that.Dark foggy and bumpy not the time to take a swim.Just out side of the north gap it clears up and we can see again. Not a skunk but close . Both fish came on lighted glow J Plugs off the same rigger set 45-55 feet down 60 back. Going to run them on sunday morning early. hope for better luck.

  3. I was able to give my new Depth Raider a good run and see if I could find the current. I guess from my findings I have been running on the slow side . Started off in 53 ft marking a few fish but no takers , bait was present also. kept moving north and picked up 1 7lb king. Stayed on a north troll until we hit the towers and turned back southwest. not long after that pick up another king about 5lbs. Then after a short quite time it hit, didn't take any line out but doubled over my 10'6" rod. As I went to net this fish I couldn't beleave what I saw, an extremely large brown. Came on a 5 color J PLUG, weighing 17lbs. congrats to my brother in law Chuck on his biggest fish yet on the big pond.

Ended up 3 for 3 and one big smile.

  4. Jim, Different areas of the great lakes will have different results with plugs. The main thing to keep in mind is they are a King setup. They will certainly catch all species of fish, but are best for Kings. Each bait and presentation has it's place and time to shine, knowing when that is, is the key. I find plugs to work whenever their is a thermocline and there are kings in 70 feet or less, outside of 70 feet I feel their are better setups. So for a general rule fishing milwaukee June through September is When I fish them. My advice would be to find 3 colors that work on sunny days and 3 colors for cloudy day, If conditions are right for plugs you should get results with them, if not try other presentations.

We have been running J plugs for about a month now ,and having great success , Just trying to get a feel for what every body uses . I had bought 2 of those glow stick J plugs on ebay ,and planing on running them . I haven't seen them in stores . The kings do really seem to like them, My son caught one and the king just about destroyed the hook. Also tonight and my brother in law caught a Large brown on one. Will post pictures later this week came in at 17lbs. Thanks again .

  5. The weather is going to be good for the week , I am going to be out on monday right now but I will let you know if I will be out the rest of the week. I have promised my wife that I would not fish alone out there so if my son backs out I'll be stuck , but that does't happen too often. He usually gives in and gets the bigger fish. By the way do you know any of the guys on the West Allis Fire Department? My Brother in law is the battalion Chief.

Hope to see ya this week .

  6. Haven't been out since last weekend boat was in the shop , to have warranty items repaired,(still has to go back).Told the wife I would take her out for a fish fry But I wanted to fish also . so went took a trip up river to Riptides . After dinner we went out for just under an hour. Was able to try out my new depth raider, what a difference . SOG 3.1 to 3.6 speed at the ball 2.1 -2.2 , had no idea my baits were running that slow. It made a difference too 3 fish in the box in about 50 min. 2 were back to back.Largest one about 15lbs, and used planer boat as a bobber again. My wife and daughter just came along for the ride, didn't want to fish so we cut it short . Russ thanks for the help with the Depth raider, this thing works great. Hope to be back out tomorrow, suppost to be flat again, can only hope .Finished 3 for 3 on a short trip. 50ft of water down 40 ft water was 47-49 degrees. Surface temps were running about 67-69.

  7. Rj Look for Mikes (GLH) video on running a dive bomb. All these guys here are my teachers, I owe allot to them, I have spent many hours out on the lake to achieve those numbers, I had my boat in for sevice and the service manager could not be leave the amount of hours I had on my boat in the short time I have had it. 152 hours. Fishing keeps me sane . I am always happy to share what I have learned here , if you need some help feel free to contact me. I am out 2-3 times a week and launch out of Mckinley. Could possibly meet you down there sometime. You could also hail me on the radio as "Woof-n-fish".

  8. I normally run a 5 and a 7 color cores, if I need to go deeper I can add a dive bomb to th e lead core, haven't needed to go deeper than 7 this year. I have run 3 color but no takers , if I need to get really deep i could take the 3 color and run it off one of my rear riggers . If you are only running 2 rods I would suggest a 5 and 7 because you could always add weight to it and get deeper, a 4oz dive bomb would get you about an extra 25 feet.

  9. If you are still looking for a Depth Raider try ebay, I picked mine up a couple weeks ago , had it out for the first time yesterday. Its a refurb unit but you will save just over 100.00. Came with a full warenty and everything needed for install.

They are great units, really helped me get the speed correct, gps speeds were 3.1 -3.6 at the ball 2.1-2.2 picked up three fish in lees than 1 hour, correct speed made all the difference.
