  1. I just read the tournment trail mag and there comming out with a new show called 333 tv. This is a 13 part show that will show on some of the major channels. check it out yours selfs at www.tournamenttrail.net i think that this one will be a good one.

Maybe my computer shows something different but I could not find anything on 333 TV

  2. My son and I finally made it out today, been too windy around here. Went 2 for 4, 1 drive by(missed the bait) 1 off rigger @ 17 down 80 back. 1 on dipsy (said to my son I've never pick one up on the dipsey yet , wasn't 5 min and the dipsey went off on my side.)Had one really large one one off of the rigger, came unglued at the surface 60ft back and through the hook.

was a fun time all fish came in the same area.

  3. Thanks to everyone that replied on this thread, all of you were very helpful. My son and I went out 2 weeks ago picked up 2 nice browns.1st time using down riggers.

Did you know that browns eat gobies, the large brown had three in his belly.

I am sure glad something eats these ulgy things ,check out the video howbig the first gobie is.

  4. My fav for fixed sliders is Alberta Clippers I hate rubber bands the Alberta Clipper snaps on your line making setup and removal a breeze. I use sliders a lot the true fun is when you get multiple fish on the same rod.

yea thats a video I would love to see a couple of 15lbs on one line.

  5. I use a #16 rubber band, the same as youd use in a downrigger release. To half hitch, simply take the rubber band and wrap it aroudn the main line in the center of the band. Now, take and pass one end of the rubber band through the other and cinche tight. Now, take the snap on your slider and go around your main line and through the loop on the rubber band. That will fix the slider in position on your mainline.

Sliders are a productive method of catching fish and i use sliders as long as im running spoons or plugs on my down riggers with short leads, say 40' or less, from the cannon ball to the mainline lure. The reason for this is that you have to retrieve that 40' of line in addition to the line from the "bow" down to the cannon ball before you ultimately tighten up on the fish....Which is the reason i dont fish a free slider when fishing deeper than say 60'...its just too much line to retrieve. Im more apt to put a fixed slider on in that situation and keep it 10'-20' or so above the ball.

I dont run any sliders when im fishing with flashers and flies on the riggers. Your just asking for a mess doing so because the slider leader tends to wind together with the flasher and fly in my experience....There is a new method of using a double strand of dacron tied into your mainline and clipping the slider there, but that requires you to physically remove the slider when your reeling in a fish thats on the mainline. I have not tried that personally, so i cant comment on it. I can imagine it could make for some excitment though!!!!

Ok this might sound stupid but how do you use a rubber band off the ball when using a downrigger. Are you not using a pinch pad release? Sorry new to all this and sometimes with out doing it I don't quite understand.

  6. When I rename the Tiara, I want to use a sticker. It has one on there now that says "Sparky Boat" . I'm thinking a heat gun will take care of that.

Where can I get a new sticker made? In the past Boats where always named after woman. I was kinda thinking JoAnn Marie, for my wife? Or does it need a clever name? I'm not good with clever names. I was given Nailer because I'm a carpenter:D

Use a heat gun and as little heat as possible to remove the decal. The low heat should allow the adhesive to remove with the decal,(most of the time) You then should be able to remove the rest of the adhesive with alcohol, (not a mixed drink)no beer will not work either.

If you would like send me the info of what you need for a decal and I could give you a quote , Have vinyl cutter side biz (Embroidery ,signs ,T-shirts, heat transfers ect).

Just finishing up 2 decals for the back of my boat , Still waiting for registration to come back so I can put numbers on the boat too.

Questions feel free to email me at [email protected] or PM.

Ken your also not that far from me ,time permitting I could run the down to you.

  7. How often do you guys use this type of rig , and is it productive. The only part I'm not clear on is the rubber band. You put the rubber band on with a half hitch , does the line pass through the loop and connect to the line below the band ?

and how heavy of a rubber band do you use?

  8. I went with the same theory as the previous two posters when i ran stackers. I much prefer to run a fixed or free slider. Less clutter, less chances of a tangle and still effective. And, you dont have to reset two rods if the bottom one pops. Plus i can put those rod counts to use in the form of lead core or dipsey presentations.

What is a free slider? Are you running multiple baits on one line?

  9. Kind of like starting out new for this year, 2010 targa V17 115 optimax,2 Lake troll down riggers, 2 new down rigger rods. Many new spoons and flies.

Mostly because this is going to be my first full year fishing the Big pond.

Still looking for a kicker to go with the new boat.

  10. Thanks to everyone who replied , Was out on the big pond yesterday. My son and I went 2 for 2 . My first time with down riggers, 20ft down 70 back. 2 Browns. 2nd one was about 18lbs tangled one of the dipsy rod and the other rigger.put up a real nice fight. Can't wait for the coho to start coming in. Does anyone know about when that would be?

How does one post a picture?

  11. There will be 2 to 3 people in the boat, the boat is a Targa v 17 (18' 1" x101" beam)as I am very new to this I don't plan on running more than 4 possibly 6 if I can scrape up enough for 2 more trolling rods, remember a boat is a hole in the water that one pours money into ,and my stash is just about dry.

I need to get my downrigger balls and I was really surprised on how much those buggers cost! 40.00 for a 10lb weight? So I am starting a little slower than I thought . I got hooked last year jigging for Salmon just outside of the harbor here in Milwaukee.

  12. Looking for some tips for setups , how far behind the ball to run baits, what to look for when picking an area to troll in . What time of the year to start running flys. When would you use J plugs.

I plan on running 2 riggers and 2 dipsys ,whats the best way to run ,with flys and spoons, should I run the spoons on the riggers or on the dipsys? What colors work best in the spring?

any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Jim

  13. if all else fails try mek , ware gloves and a mask as this stuff is nasty, your skin will dry out real quick if you don't ware gloves. You could try Lacquer thinner, not mineral spirits. If this is a two part paint you have to clean to air brush right away.

  14. No Pics yet Tracker Targa 17v WT , I was going to go with the 175pro V WT but on the trailer the targa is 2" shorter but overall 11" longer boat . Sweet deal with the incentives. I started out last year jigging the gaps in my 16' MistyHarbor , not a really wide boat at 68" made for a rough ride sometimes, Pulled in some really nice salmon so I decieded to get a bigger boat , had to quit smoking to finance the boat but a much better way to spend my money .

Here is a link to some of my fish , hope it workshttp://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=3800&id=1837272042&l=99466e79b6

and a scanned photo of the boat.
