I saw the marine report about the gales, but weather.com is calling for 17 mph sse wind sat subsiding to 6 mph w sat night. I will be out of south haven on Saturday. Hopefully the Kings will be there:thumb:

Caught my 10 walleye and loved every minute. Three years ago I saw a show on Lake Michigan salmon and it looked a lot like how I troll for walleyes on Erie. I convinced my dad who has a place in Coldwater, MI, that we should drive over and try salmon fishing. Our first trip we caught a 13lb king and a 12 lb steelie, from that point on I was hooked. Over the last 3 years we have made almost 40 trips to South Haven and St. Joe's. Last fall I got the chance to purchase a 38 foot trailer which I put on a lot at Sunny Brook Resort in South Haven. The campground opens April 15th(driving me crazy counting the days). My wife and I are teachers, so June, July, and August are going to be great for me and my fishing addiction:grin:

I ran the shamrock with tuna and garlic oil out of south haven this summer. Had it out two or three times, but did take a nice king everytime I put it out. Usually in the mid-day period. Just picked up two more at cabelas and plan to use them more this summer. I only tried them clean behind dipsy's.

Ken, The eggs were big and they both looked like they were ready to pop. I usually start fishing the first of Oct. out Vermillion, then later in the month I go out of Huron. 6-7lb average with a chance at one in the 10 plus range.

5-7's going out, but I was fishing this weekend:thumb: Pyle's said I would be the first out in 3 days. Drove out to 150fow and was planning on trolling with the waves in. Started at 12:00, by 1:00 pm trying to stay in 150fow had two four year olds, a 11lbs on 10 color evil alewive and 8lbs on diver set 3 back 190, blue dolphin spinney with hypocrite big weenie fly. Trolled into 70 fow water by 6:30 and never had another bump:confused: Turned around and headed back out because lake was laying down nicely. Never had another bump headed in at dark. Less than 2 footers when heading in. Probably the last trip of the year walleye should be turning on at Erie in a couple weeks or so:grin: Are four year olds sometimes that small, was really surprised by the 8lbs being full of eggs and ready to spawn.

Went out this morning and was putting lines in at 6:00. Started at 80fow of water trolling NW. Picked up two kings on divers set on 3/190 back spinney and flys. Got another on 5 color flounder ponder. Then a fourth on ten color with a 4oz inline on ace high blue splatter back. This was all before I could get a ten rod spread in the water. Trolled out to 110 fow, then turned south and never pick up another fish until 1:00. Was everywhere from 100 to 140 fow. Decided to troll in at the point and when we reached 80 fow all hell broke loose. Had three doubles and a triple at one point, all on boards running 10 color and 5 color, DW lemon ice spoon and ace high plugs. (green splatter back and blue splatter back) A couple of times I hand fish hit when I was try to attach the boards with the line in my hand. We had to head in at 2:30 due to a crew member turning green in the 5-7 footers that where rolling. We finished the day 11 for 13 with 7 fish coming from 1:00 to 2:00 in the afternoon in 80 to 70 fow. All seven of those fish where over 11lbs with the largest two being right at 14 lbs. My question is why were these fish hear in the middle of the day with a sunny sky and a strong west wind that should have pushed the cooler water off shore. Not to mention that at least 5 of the seven fish were taken on 5 color lead that with the way the boards and where ripping through the waves couldn't have been more that 15 feet deep. With a surface temp at 77 degrees. Our 11 fish weight was 120lbs. This was my personal best weight per king. What a great hour of fishing:grin:

What does it look like for Sunday? I see winds from the NW at 11mph, then gradually decreasing. What kind of waves will that produce? I am thinking St. Joe's on Sunday, but I am driving 200 miles to get there. On a side note, does a cold front cut down the bite with salmon the way it does for walleye. My back up plan is the reefs on Erie. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

I am a new poster and a long time reader. I made it up to St. Joe's on Tuesday and had a great first trip out. We went 14 for 15, while throwing back a laker, a small coho and a small brown. We didn't have thin-fins, so we ran two colors with orange spoons on outside boards, with tiger reef runners on inside boards, flasher and flies on riggers and dipseys(orange flashers and green flies). The new 20 foot diver by rapala(fire tiger) also took a couple nice fish. We fish anywhere from 15 to 22 fow south of the pier. Two of the browns were 10# and 8#. I am trying to figure out how to insert pictures, so if someone would be kind enough to explain, I will post them. The 3 and a half hour drive was worth it:grin:. Thanks to all of you that have posted in the last couple of weeks about St. Joe's:thumb:

I was out and went 6 for 9 two kings a 9lb and a 4lb. The other 4 were lakers, one of them being 8lbs. Those stacked fish I think were lakers, we had doubles on both times we went through those schools. Mt dew spin doctor and a white glow fly caught 3 of the 4 lakers on mag dipsey 220 back on a 3 setting.

I was planning on either manistee or lundington, Thanks for the advice.

I will be traveling from Coldwater, looking for Kings. Can anyone suggest what port to go out of and where to start? FOW,numbers,hot lures or how deep I should be running dipseys would be of great help. Thanks for any help:)
