  1. I do like it, no problems. I was going to buy the cannon last year, until I found out they were not making them anymore. I was really interested in the true depth at the lure function.

I may sell my depth raider and buy one of the cannons once I hear some feedback on how they work.

  2. I got the new Cabellas Marine Catalog yesterday and see that Cannon has their new Speed-N-Temp system out. Looks pretty cool, although pricey. I like the way their probe connnects to the downrigger cable, looks like it goes on and off very easy.

  3. I am sure this has been gone over before, but can someone explain the secret weapon rig? Is this running your leadcore all the way out and then hooking your backer to your downrigger?

If so, am I correct in assuming that if I run 10 colors, hook the backer to the downrigger and take the ball to 100' the lure will run at about 140'.

Can you do the same thing with copper?

    Thank you.

  4. You match your dial on the autopilot to the compass on the boat and then turn on the unit, matching the two headings, after that, the autopilot keeps you on your compass heading. To adjust your heading after the unit is on, you just turn the big dial on the autopilot.

There is a knob that you turn to adjust the frequency of the autopilot adjustment to the steering, from slow (more frequent adjustments), to fast (less frequent adjustments.

I have been very pleased with this unit, even thought it is older, and does not have all the fancy extras like the new ones, it certainly is an extra set of hands on the boat.

I went out by myself quite a few times last summer, and on a 28' boat an autopilot is the only way you could accomplish that.

  5. I bought a Hummingbird 900 series two summers ago, and did not buy the built in maps bundle for an extra 200. Instead I used the base maps and bought the great lakes chip that came with the second fish n chip that shows the depth details in all the great lakes by using depth lines. I cannot believe how accurate the depth lines are on the chip, they are almost always the same as the depth reading on the fishfinder.

  6. Last fall my Okuma Blue Diamond roller rods broke off in the holders (3) and Jay's in Clare got the manufacturer to upgrade to the great lakes roller rods (same roller system as the Telora) as well as upgrading the reels to the Catalina series. Sweet!

While I was at it, I had them set me up two copper reels with 45# copper and 30# mono backer, I have never used copper with an inline board before and this is my question.

I run one wire dipsey off each side of the boat using mag. divers with the ring set on #3, out 150' to 200'. If I am running 300' of copper or 150' of copper with the copper being the inside line on a 3 line spread, what concerns should I have with the wire line tangling with the copper?

    I would appreciate your input.

  7. This may not be the same situation, but I was having similar problems and cleaned the electrical contacts on the auto pilot compass and that took care of the problem. It takes very little dust to corrupt the connection. You can also call the manufacturer and find out the compass settings for your area of fishing. If the person you bought the unit from was far enough away you may have to change those settings. Also, there should be a gain adustment to fine tune the autopilot compass to keep it from overcorrecting, you have to be on the water to perform this adjustment.
