  1. Good work--wish I could've made it that morning, too. We fished S. Haven the evening of 9/3 about 1.5mi north of the piers between 90 and 120fow. Set lines at 6:30pm, went 4-7; all kings, 2 of them larger than 13lbs. We had 1 full core that I couldn't get going, a half core with black/white jointed rapala had two hits(boated one), two dipsys I couldn't get going, and two riggers with free sliders set 60 and 50 down. The down lures were white lyman lures that boated 3 of the 4 fish. A orange free slider took one hit early in the evening. Good fishing! I was working to try to get the flies going again. I never got a hit on a fly(again). I was trying them behind dipsys and a full core. Any advice as to what I'm doing wrong that I can seem to get fish off of flies? Thanks!
  2. alaskan king crab and yummy salmon come to mind first, but that's my stomach talking. I'll add 'allewife'
  3. Sorry for the late post, but here it is: Fished Friday night 8/25 out of S. Haven. We got on the lake later than I wanted, but choose to wait for a little thunder shower to scoot north of us. Set lines in 70fow north of the pier at about 6:30pm on a 2.4mph(gps) west troll. We got to 80fow and the first rigger went off, white lyman plug set 65' down. After a nice long fight, fish threw the lure. 0-1. We turned back East after getting a dead graph in the 95fow area and got another hit very near the same waypoint. It was the same rigger running the white lyman plug 65' down and landed a nice first king; guessing around the 10lb mark. After the second hit, I set another white lyman on the other rigger down 55'. We worked that same waypoint and ended the night 4-7 with the biggest fish just shy of 17lbs. All but one of our hits were on riggers 65' and 55' down with white lyman plugs. The only other hit came on a blue/green/silver spoon. Saturday am, got on the lake at about 5:30am. We worked the same waypoint with the white lyman plugs once again giving us the majority of the hits. The guys at the ramp were telling me to run flies, flies, and more flies. I did and could not get them to hit with any color/spinny/flasher combo I tried. Chalk it up to me being a lousy fly fisherman because some folks on the radio were getting flies hitting. We finished the morning fishing 80fow north of the piers using east/west trolls a not-so-great 3-6. Two hits came on a black and silver glow spoon 55' down on the rigger. Everything else came off white lyman lures either running 65' down on rigger or 155' back on a dipsy set to 1.5. The largest Saturday morning was about 15lbs with the other two visibily just slightly smaller in size. We lost a lot of fish this weekend, but only one broke me off. The fish would jump and the lure would go the other way. If I'm going to loose the fish, I'd just assume keep the lure it hit!
  4. That's great to hear! Repsonsibility breeds more responsibility, just like respect breeds more respect. Gary shows that there's at least a few of us out there trying to breed both.
  5. I'm more concerned about catching fish than what ice they go in. Whichever way is decided works for me. Good luck in Frankfort Caz.
  6. I've run 30' monofilament leaders in the past. If I use a snap weight, I've traditionally clipped it on the mono just below the leadcore. Is there a disadvantage to doing it this way?
  7. I agree with the previous posts; this is my first time on a tourny league and I've had a blast! I look forward to every event. Good luck to all of the teams!
  8. Fall because that gives me the winter to get it set up the way I'd like. Although I have to admit that I took delivery on the boat I have now right smack in the middle of June.
  9. Any of those top teams could come back with a couple good fish and some clips and take the cake. Good fishing all season! It's been fun fishing with some very good fisherman in this league. I voted for Team Sixshoot strictly because they have the advantage of the lead going into the final tournament. Even a slim advantage is still an advantage; the top three teams last weekend were very close. Good luck to all! This is my first year fishing in a league like this and it's been a lot of fun! I look forward to each event!
  10. Okay, that makes it easy I will be there(just won't be able to fish the tournament) and I will bring utensils/sodas/potato chips. Looking forward to it; the weather forecast is looking great! We don't have too more days like this to enjoy, so let's make it count!
  11. I can bring them(plates and ware), but if Huntingfool has already volunteered, then I will bring something else. I will plan on bringing them along with some soda and potato chips unless I hear otherwise. I'm very flexible, so suggestions are welcome.
  12. I just found out I won't be working Saturday and will be able to make it to the outing. I won't have the chance to fish in the big fish contest. Since there seems to be a need for plates/utensils/disposable bowls for chili/paper towels, I'll gladly bring those. Also, I'll bring a couple of 2liter sodas, cups, and some potato chips. If anyone has a better idea of what we need more, then let me know. I'm flexible :-)
  13. LOL--Glowflies hanging in the bedroom!! Those things have hooks!! I don't want hooks in MY bedroom! I didn't expect this type of response when I posted the question! I think I'll stick to the picnic and wine advice:D
  14. That was a really good article! It was very well written and easy to follow. Thanks for the time and effort!
  15. Wow, sounds romantic............ Now, if I can only convince MY wife....... Any more tips on that Mrs. Sixshooter??
  16. I heard the same news that the water search had been called off. They still don't know the identity of the person or the boat because there is no new missing persons reports along the lakeshore counties. Officials are still trying to locate the identity of the person by expanding the search for missing persons reports. The news didn't comment on if they even know the number of people aboard the boat. not a good news situation.......
  17. Ya, we were fishing out of Saugatuck and the same deal happened there. You could see the sky changing when the chatter came on the radio. We had already gotten most of our gear packed up when the radio chatter came across the air. Most everybody picked up and ran in, but a few stayed behind. I think it got uglier than some thought it would. Either way, I hope they find the crew. I wouldn't my wife getting a call like that from a coast guard official.
  18. Sorry for the late reply. They have not done boat work for me, but they have done some aluminum sheet work as well as cast magnesium work for me. Both times I've been very happy with the work.
  19. In the mornings prior to sunrise, I also use a 2mil candelawatt spotlight at very close proximity. On average, I'd say they are under the light for about 5 minutes. In the afternoons, I'll get the glow lures I plan to put out into the natural sunlight. I ussually get them into the sunlight about an hour prior to sunset. This sounds like a very interesting article.
  20. I got a business card under the truck winshield on a may fishing morning.
  21. This is a great site for people of all different backgrounds and expertise. I've really enjoyed meeting everybody and personally have not met anyone who was not fun and courteous to be around. On top of that, most of them know more about great lakes fishing than I do regardless of who owns a boat and who doesn't. That'd include you, Mike. Besides that, ride begger??!!??!! Geesh, I wouldn't even take that as an insult. Is that the best they can do? I've been called much worse by much better On top of that, those who feel the need to put others down in order to make themselves feel better are often very narrow minded and trying to make up for thier own insecurities. I hope you(and anyone else) don't take it too much to heart.
  22. There's a lot of west side of MI. Are you in the southwest, midwest, or northwest mi? If in the southwest, Laylin welding in Dowagiac has done some stuff for me in the past and it's always been good quality.
  23. I use a 1million candlawatt power spot light, too. I've always wondered about the effectiveness of this. Does anyone else use spot lights? Are they effective?
  24. If anyone wants a lesson on how to properly farm fish, then I was the man on Saturday! We started the morning with a double, and all we caught was a tangled mess. When we were trying to get our tangles in the boat, a fish hit a tangled up dipsy. We promply lost that fish, too. Just trying to do my part the the L. MI fishing Before it was all said and done, we cut off and re-tied 5 out of the six lines we were running. I agree with DV8OR; the more of these I fish the more fun I'm having! --Jason
  25. You didn't forget us:) We're the team with the two fish(~7lb steelie and ~5.5lb king) in the last pic. After the nasty tangle we had right at sunrise, I was thrilled to not loose any more fish and actually get those two! It was a great time. Congrats to all of the teams; gorgeous day to be fishing! I'm looking forward the august date in Muskegeon. See you all in a month,
