  1. plan on being there unless i can sneak out fishing. It looks like it might be fishable next weekend with this warmer weather. Will have fishing on the mind either way!:D

    "South Haven To Holland Mi-

    Saturday

West winds to 30 knots increasing to gales to 35 knots late in the day. Cloudy. A slight chance of rain and snow showers until midday...then a slight chance of light snow showers in the afternoon. Waves 4 to 6 feet building to 7 to 11 feet late in the day."

See ya at the show!!! :)

  2. I would take into account how many rods or number of people u would normally fish with. I have 2 riggers and usually use one. I fish with 2 people usual though so only 6 rods. Its nice to have the riggers on a hot rigger bite or lots on board but weigh this vs the cost. To be honest if the holes are there i would prob want them with the boat. Sucks having holes that dont match anything. Just my 2 cents:)

  3. Hey guys thanks so much i fish only salmon on Lake Huron and G Bay. Can`t waite to try some of this stuff out.

I see many people uses flys on this board. Around here many people use spoons and cut bait. I`m deffentaly going to run a dispy, flasher, fly love to see how it works.

One other question can you run 10 colour lead off a inline board???????????

Thanks for a great site and helping me out

    Strik

    sure can:thumb:

  4. Very interesting to see such a split. I use Walleye boards and are a big fan. Used offshores and hated them for reasons that other say they love em.

Every board has its pros and cons and requires some tweaking. I couldnt get the Offshores to track with copper was my prob. Thats why i like the adjustment weight on Church boards.

I set up my boards so they dont release for salmon but like a release for walleye so they go to the back. Salmon take it back.:)

Make sure to put ur name and number on them. I have had three returned at least and have been able to return at least one to another.

  5. new boat(get pics soon), more tracks, 4 berts ratcheting, GLP triple rod trees, 1 wire dipsy, 250' Cu, 100' Cu, 2 new rods, new stereo and speakers, a bigger cooler with seat, LED trailer lights, added 2nd batt and switch, plenty of spoons and flashers (well i guess there is never enough:))

    I wanna fish!!!!

  6. How deep ya talking? That reel will prob fit 5-7 colors of leadcore at most i would think with backing. Getting u maybe 25-30ft deep. Copper dives quicker but takes up more space on the reel. Thats easily done with bouncers. U might be looking at getting some bigger reels.

Braided line with dipsy divers would get u deeper but im not sure that the reel would hold up to the pull of dipsy divers.

    Misunderstood the color line=leadcore before

One pound balls/ heavy snapweights/ Dive bombs/Torpedo divers are all options also to get deep with less line. U would prob want braid for this with no stretch. These would give u a little bit versatility by changing weights. The leadcore or copper is basically one depth per rod.

Leadcore is more forgiving to work with than copper so i would recommend getting used to it before copper as it can be a headache. Although some of the newer supercopper is more forgiving.

  7. braid would help ya get deeper along with more capacity and sensitivity. You could then add a section of mono or flourocarbon to the end if u needed rather easily.

Are u using these for dipsy divers, ur bouncers, riggers??? Im not reel familiar with the reels. Application would help determine what lb test to use

  8. Shawn, My first forschner was a 12 incher, that was back in to the 20 pounder days. It's great for big fish. I like my 10 incher best for the size of fish we have been catching in recent year.

I got a 12" last year and its nice but a 10 woulda did it.Plus they make a $5 plastic cover for the 10" and only a $25 sheath with belt loop for 12". I really dont wish to pay 1/2 the price of my knife for that. Its stays in orginal pack but sucks.:(

Much better than pre-Forschner days though;)

  9. I guess I'm a minority here, when a rigger fires on our boat you better jump on that rod, set the hook and reel like hell till the fish pulls line. My releases are set so any fish less than 10 pounds can't release without a hookset. You gotta remember when a fish trips a downrigger they got 5 seconds to shake that hook with slack line. I try to keep that time to a minimum.

I agree with getting to the rod and cranking like a madman:clapping: Rigger, RIGGER, RIGGER!!!! I have been known to jump on peoples laps that are in the way along with jumping from the flybridge to get that rigger rod. :P Reel down fast as :diablo: but not a hook setter unless the release didnt go.

  10. Boat comes out of storage on the 31st of March. Spent today re-spooling reels and setting up some more spring program rods. Lite line and Yellow birds in the shallows. Gonna have the MC2 in St Joe this year, hope to be fishing by the 5th of april. Some Brown and Coho action is what I need to get me back into life again. For those that hadn't heard my Wife passed away on Feb 4 and I really need to get back on the lake. Then maybe it won't hurt so much.

So sorry for ur loss. Hopefully some fishing soon will help heal the soul. Looking forward to ur great reports putting me to shame as usual.:)
