7-25 PM (Nice Night Bite)

Got a late start around 8:00 PM and dropped lines in about 108 FOW. There were a ton of boats packed in the vicinity, so after about 20 minutes with no action, we slid out into some deeper water to get some breathing room.First fish of the night surprisingly took a while to hit but it absoutely smoked the 250 copper, just screaming drag, and eventually it ended up breaking off a Green Splatterback J-Plug right at the copper-leader connection. Thankfully, we got some redemption later on that same bait.

 

Once we got into 125-130 FOW, things started going crazy. Kevin’s Girlfriend meat rig landed a solid 10–12 lb king, and not long after that we stuck our biggest fish of the night on the 250 with a new Green Splatterback J-Plug, a tank 23 lb king that did what kings often do and took us into the rigger and other shenanigans when it got close… Kryptonite spin doctor and fly took a 6-7 lb king also, on a diver out 140. 

 

As it got darker, we had another flurry, and riggers down deep (thanks 2MD for the tips tonight) were just lights out once it turned dark. Mag Green Jeans, and Mag Happee Meal were hot, and again, a Glow Green J Plug on the deeper rigger took another big king. Really cool to see the J-Plug bite get goin… I believe our meat rig on the deeper rigger out 160-170 took another fish as well around sunset. Things just clicked in that 130 FOW though once the sun was down.

 

We fished until about 10:30 before pulling lines. Ended the night I believe 8/9. Did NOT end up fishing as well as 2MD did (WOW), but the 23 lber was a real nice surprise, and we will be back at it again bright and early!
